  1. Bring up Feliciano. They need to cut costs and this is the one position that the Brewers have decent prospects. Narvaez out.
  2. Astro turf fields are largely gone. That was one big factor. Also, smaller parks where doubles and triples are harder to get.
  3. Orlando Arcia, 9 innings. He has a 162 game W/L expectation percentage of .498 which gives the Brewers their best chance.
  4. I don't really want the automated strike zone. I feel the umpires are being told to call strikes based on a two dimensional rectangle on a monitor and that is how they are judged. It started with "back door" sliders which were not strikes. Think about it - if the catcher catches that pitch at the very limit of the line how can it be a strike? It had to have curved around the strike zone while at the plate. Now they are calling curve balls barely touching the top line as strikes even though they had to have been above the actual strike zone. I feel this is really impacting the hitters as they have to swing at pitches which would have been balls in previous years. These pitches are often essentially unhittable. This is being done to "speed up" the game. But speed of play was never a problem until MLB mandated minimum times between innings. They should just get rid of these minimum times and go back to the old way of doing it. Commercials can be run side by side with play like they do it in golf and some other sports. This alone would save about a half hour every game. Let the umpires call games based on the actual strike zone.
  5. If there is a DH, Hiura should be the DH. If there is no DH, Hiura should be traded. His arm causes continual problems in the field. He makes errors by overcompensation and has trouble turning the double play.
  6. It's not just his hitting. His fielding has been bad also. It often looks like he doesn't notice the ball has been hit his way until it's within 20 feet or so of him. Bad concentration or something worse?

  9. I still say Grisham is not a centerfielder. Ray is much better and Harrison light years beyond both. Anybody can stand out there and make routine plays. Having said that, I don't like Urias as a shortstop either. I don't think he can stick there. He will spend most of his career at second base. Current Brewers OF has to be among the worst in baseball. Yelich is historically bad right now, Garcia has no range and neither does Braun. Pretty much any non routine fly ball is guaranteed extra bases.
  10. To me, Stearns looks very similar to Melvin but with analytics thrown in. Trading away prospects, signing older players to long term deals, marginal free agents, all similar to Melvin. These are the same things Melvin was criticised endlessly for on this site. Melvin also had short term success with the early Fielder, Braun teams but it eventually caught up with them. Seems to be catching up with Stearns now. Hope I'm wrong.
  11. I still believe in Jake Gatewood. Having seen him dominate the Carolina League during the first half three years ago, I think he can get that back after two injury filled years. Right handed power hitter who may be a late developer. Few players in the Brewers organization can do the things he can.
  12. The Brewers apparently have some kind of partnership deal with SC Johnson. It will be announced on the 24th of January. According to the Racine Journal-Times. I won't link it because there is really no other information.
  13. Barry Alvarez beat them 3 times in his last 5 years with, arguably, less talent than this team. Bielema only beat them once in his last 5 years but only one of those games was by more than a touchdown. Chryst has never beaten them. To me, the difference is that Chryst's teams are relatively soft compared to what Wisconsin used to be. They were very rarely beaten up at the line of scrimmage. That this team is soft was seen in the Minnesota game last year where the Goofers totally dominated them in the 4th quarter. Yes, there is a talent difference but that didn't used to matter as much.
  14. Congratulations to Gavin Lux, the 21-year old from Kenosha, who hit a home run for the Dodgers last night.
  15. Maybe now is the time for me to tell a little story about Cody Ponce. It happened during a double header in Frederick when Cody was with Carolina. Now the visiting team there has to walk up through the stands to get to their clubhouse. Before the first game I noticed there was, I'm not sure of the politically correct term, but "special needs" kid who was there with his father. The kid was wearing a Keys or Orioles jersey, I can't remember which. Apparently, Cody Ponce also recognized this because he called a fan over to the side of the dugout and gave him an autographed ball and then pointed the kid out. The fan then brought this ball to the kid. He was obviously very happy somebody would take the time to do something like that for him. I think Cody then waved at the kid and his father. After game 1, these two came over where the Mudcats players were going to the clubhouse and thanked Cody. He then took the ball and got other players to sign it as well. I think Isan Diaz was one of them. Anyway, though i'm not a big fan of Cody's stuff as a picher I have always thought of him as a special player after that. Not many would go out of their way like that to please a kid they don't even know. Sorry to see him go.
  16. By run differential last year the Brewers should have won 92 games, the Cubs 94, Cards 89, Pirates 81, Reds 68. Cards have made the most improvements in my opinion. Cards 98 Cubs 92 Brewers 88 Pirates 83 Reds 70
  17. High school football: Brown chooses Indiana Apparently, he was a UW recruit. Also was considering Iowa I believe.
  18. This is incorrect, the Badgers rescinded their offer to Days when he wanted to commit over the summer. I was unaware of that. Here is the story from the Journal-Times
  19. Nobal Days, who is a Badger offer, has accepted an offer from Tulane. Mike Dunleavy is the coach there. Days goes to Washington Park HS.
  20. In my opinion, you can't really use injuries as an excuse. There are always injuries in football. It's how you cope with them that determines the better teams. Christ hasn't recruited adequate backups and those that get in don't seem prepared. Coan can't even take the snap from center. The offense is the most predictable I have ever seen. Give me the down and distance together with the personnel package on the field and I can predict with 90% or so accuracy what the Badgers are going to run. You don't want Coan in 3rd and long so why not throw on first occasionally including down field? Why not run on 3rd and long sometimes? Contrast that with Northwestern where you really don't know what they might do from down to down.
  21. While it's true that Peralta was much worse against lefties in the Major Leagues last year, in the minors he has been better against lefties than righties interestingly enough. Personally, I don't think he will be around long. Hitters seem to get him with more at bats.
  22. He must take the Mets job. Stearns for DeGrom.
  23. Lives in Seattle which, I believe, is his home town.
  24. Hummel was moved to OF full time prior to the beginning of the season. The Brewers have been officially listing him as an OF. He’s only filled in at catcher when they’ve been short there. The Brewers clearly do not view him as a full time fit at catcher. While the Brewers may not consider him a catcher, others might. By not playing him there the Brewers reduce his value. If they were playing Feliciano there I might be on board but they have gone with a steady diet of organizational soldiers. Perhaps that helps the pitchers?
  25. Buies Creek 6, Carolina 3 Rodriguez Homers in 6-3 Season Finale Loss at Buies Creek Carolina allowed three Buies Creek home runs in Monday's season finale Nathan Rodriguez hit a three run home run in the first inning to stake the Mudcats to the lead but that was all they could manage. Meanwhile, Alec Bettinger gave up three gopher balls and all six runs to the Astros. Cooper Hummel was put in the lead off spot, presumably to help him get to the .400 mark in OBA. It didn't work. He was 1-4 and finishes with .397. I'm not sure if it was Cooper's idea or the Brewers' to put him in the outfield this year but, to me, his ticket to the big leagues is as a backup catcher. His bat will play there. His around .800 OPS is probably not good enough for a corner outfield bat. Nathan Rodriguez: 1-3, HR, 3 RBI Alec Bettinger: 5 IP, 7 H, 6 R, 2 BB, 4 K Nathan Kirby: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 0 K Cody Beckman: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K Carolina Box Score Carolina Game Log Carolina finishes 65-73. Not too bad for the lack of prospecty type players this year.
