Down East 6, Carolina 4 Feliciano Homers in Series Opening 6-4 Loss to Down East Mario Feliciano and Joantgel Segovia had solid home debuts in Carolina's 6-4 loss to Down East That picture above is not Keston Hiura but Mario Feliciano. He's just wearing the same number. Maybe 6 is a lucky number. Feliciano had two hits including a home run. Joantgel Segovia also had two hits on the night. He also misplayed a ball in left field that helped fuel a 3 run first by the Wood Ducks. Cam Roegner had another off night. He didn't seem to be getting the outside corner and missed too many over the plate. He and Jonathan Hernandez, the Wood Duck starter were 1 and 2 in ERA coming into the game and both struggled. I would concur with And That's assessment. When he is getting his curveball over he can be tough. When he isn't, he usually gets hit pretty hard.

Winston-Salem 5, Carolina 1 Mudcats Swept in Winston-Salem Ronnie Gideon hit a solo home run in Sunday's series finale loss to the Dash Ronnie Gideon's home run was one of only two hits for the Mudcats in this one. It also marked the return of Mario Feliciano, who DH'd and went 0-2 with a walk. Not sure what they're going to do with the catcher position. Presumably, Feliciano is the better prospect than McDowell and should get the lion's share of the catching. There is also Cooper Hummel to consider. Braden Webb struck out 8 men in six innings of work but also gave up 4 runs. Ronnie Gideon 1-4, HR Braden Webb 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 8 K Carolina Box Score Carolina Game Log -

Carolina 9, Lynchburg 0 Hiura Homers Twice and Mudcats Total 19 Strikeouts in 9-0 Victory Keston Hiura went 5-for-5 with two home runs in Thursday's victory The story says Keston Hiura was 5-5, the box score says 4-5. The Mudcats also hit three other home runs here (Carroll, Aguilar and Wilson). Marcos Diplan with a 10 strikeout start gets a back seat to the hitting. I've seen him a few times. He is on a pitch count so he never gets that far into the game. It seems to me that he is not really letting loose yet but he's not really that much of a power pitcher anyway. I don't know if it's just his style but he seems to throw something like a shot putter right now (at least to me). The slider/curve is his out pitch now and he's not throwing fastballs for strikes much. Does change speeds quite a bit. I think we'll have to reserve judgement to see how well he recovers from all the surgery.
