It's really too bad that Matt Moore didn't get to us this time around. Even with no post season eligibility he could have helped us for the stretch run.
Normally I would never advocate for this but if this a game you bring Payamps in for the 9th? Thus negating Uribe/Megill/Payamps availability tomorrow but everyone else saved?
I think you gotta do this. I expect them to pick up the team option on Canha for 11.5 million, Non-Tender Rowdy, try to resign Santana, Trade Adames/Move Turang to SS, and use Black/Monasterio at 2B/3B.
Rea has been a God Send for his ability to eat innings this year but you have better options than him come postseason, even in that scenario. Too much time inbetween.
With Rea going down tomorrow for a fresh arm it will be very interesting to see how long they leave him out there today. He is getting hit pretty well. Just a matter of time...it seems.
I think any team would want a guy who has the 4th highest OBP of players above 1500 At bats since 2019ish. He is vastly underrated as he does everything average. He is a true, professional hitter. We have 4 in the lineup tonight (Frelick/Contreras/Monasterio/Canha). Those are the only 4 in this lineup, even when slumping, that you can hope for any production from. Other guys are either hot or cold.
The only good from this game will end up being Freddy likely getting us 7, sacrifice Chafin in the 8th to give up whatever and leave the game being shutout, as well as a full rest day for anyone meaningful in the pen.
Most guys, when they go on the DL, might look like they need to get things back to square from the game aspect/speed. I don't think the Brewers brass expected the biggest guy on the team to gain 15 lbs during his past DL stint. He's way too slow on his swing. This added weight (beyond his natural big frame) is killing him. I can give Rowdy a pass playing through the injury and not hitting. I can't give him a pass for getting further out of shape during his DL stint and still not hitting.
There were many of us who predicted this obvious outcome in a prior game thread a week or so ago. You better believe the MLBPA will work to put an end to this next bargaining contract. All teams in contention use this. Might be another outcome similar to making the 3 hitter minimum.
Forget which poster said that Weimer being up this year will end up being a blessing in disguise. The brewers got a year advancement on realizing that swing doesn't play at the MLB level because of injuries. Ultimately might be a good thing.
The eye test on Tellez leads me to believe he gained a substantial amount of weight when on DL. It's pretty easy to see. My guess is an already big guy packed on 12-15 LBS.
Had a high rarity score today, 205, but did get 9/9. Took awhile to get the Orioles/Rays and then Aubrey Huff came to mind. I find most days are really difficult but thought last Saturday's and today's were pretty easy.
Going off memory bank but I think Peralta has allowed 3 leadoff homers in his last 6 starts. Things have ended up going the same exact direction in all 3.
Position player be darned he has had a few nice at bats the past few games (including the double in the no hitter debacle). He's starting to look 'less lost' on most of his at bats. If he was playing everyday (he shouldn't be with what Frelick/Taylor/Canha/Yelich to a lesser degree lately have been doing) I think we would see him a bit more over the hump than he is now. You can see bits and pieces coming together. An offseason to readjust his timing mechanism and pre-bat movement will go a long ways to him having a more successful 2nd season. Glove plays though, man does the glove play.
Low stress innings and desire to create a true extra off day for a team playing 17 straight. If we had an off day this Thursday I don't think he comes out.
