  1. Bullpen musical chairs starts again, My guess is Alexander is up tomorrow with our traditional '5 IP starters' going back to back in Teheran and Rea (now). Then down for Megill or Andrews once Alexander makes his first appearance.
  2. If we aren't going to be bat buyers at the deadline (I don't think we will) I love the idea of bringing Black up. You have enough versatile, defensively talented utility guys to cover 3rd. Would allow him to be a DH. I see no reason that Hiura or Black is not given an opportunity instead of Winker. With the huge versatility of Monasterio, Miller, Jones, even Turang between 2B and SS it may make sense to move up both Hiura and Black, while DFAing Winker and Tapia.
  3. The question is will be will Tapia be DFA or Perkins optioned? Neither are game changers but truly is a 50/50.
  4. Assuming Megill is back up tomorrow, if eligible? Wilson being ready can't come soon enough. JB looked good in his short stint and could be a filler for games like today.
  5. I know his strikeout rate is high but I wonder if Ryan Noda from the Athletics would make sense? Gets on base a ton with Walks, some power, pre-arby. I don't know how much of an extreme upgrade it would be this year but he could fill a more cost affordable role for Rowdy if we were to decide to move on.
  6. With the days pitched from the Core 4 and Wilson it made no sense to bring them in. Sucks that the results were what they were but we really needed another inning from Peralta last night with the down pen. I don't know the rules on position players pitching in a close game but I am entirely convinced if Mike Brosseau was on the 26 man last night we win that game with his 65-70 mph junkball with movement getting us the 9th. That's how far Bush has fallen in my mind.
  7. Any possibility we have 2 fresh arms tomorrow with Pannone going down and Bush being DFA?
  8. If Pannone can get the 8th scoreless that would be absolutely amazing. Even if he gives up 1 in 8th (assuming he comes out) not the worst thing.
  9. I agree, but who? Based on the optionable guys. I am making a strong assumption that Pannone sticks just because of the ability to go starters innings, if called upon.
  10. Using our core 4 from the pen today, coupled with their combined usage over the past few days, this win was so needed. All 4 might be sat tomorrow for rest. Makes this win all that much more important.
  11. I don't think anything changes but a different voice/look/etc. is about all that can help this offense, especially a veteran hitting coach.. I also wonder if Counsell's message has gotten old/stagnant. No different than Mike McCarthy with the Packers, Bud with the bucks. Can be great coaches/managers but eventually the message isn't responded to. Outside of a new voice our offense is what it is. Some guys might improve but at this point we are halfway through the season. The 2023 versions of Winker/Adames/Tellez are more likely what they are vs what we expect.
  12. His stuff is so electric. I can completely see what the front office sees in him.
  13. Great win last night. Was just looking up some numbers and found this interesting: Did not see if this was against LH starters/RH Starters. If my quick numbers are correct Yelich has 9 games batting cleanup. 5/36 with a .128 BA. 0 homers, 4 singles, 1 double, 6 walks. Yelich in 3 hole: 6 games: 4/25 with a .160 BA. 0 homers, 3 singles, 1 double. 2 walks. Small sample size but the current stats tell a unique story on 2023 maximization. Position in the order and that daily consistency makes a huge difference. Pretty sure the 2023 Yelich version should be batting leadoff every game. Regardless of who is on the mound. With our struggles at hitting, in general, we have to start maximizing batting order trends of hitters. I am fine sacrificing an AB a game on some guys place in the batting order to follow the trends. Counsell, as a former utility guy/swiss army knife type player should really start respecting these trends for hitters and their current comfort level/place in order.
  14. Uh oh. A lefty making a start (even if it's just 1 or 2 innings) is never a good thing for the Crew. Even though they struggle against lefties as a whole I feel strongly the mental aspect of it rears it's head often.
  15. You trot out Sousa to allow 3 runs, throw 25 pitches and get an inning. No need to send Burnes out there, even with the shutout within reach.
  16. Without an off day until Next Monday, the key pieces in the pen being a little taxed, the outing from Houser was just what the doctor ordered.
  17. With the Hader blowback, and knowing you have an elite closer like Williams, I would definitely approach for a longterm deal beyond 2025, buying out the remaining 2 arby years. If it can be a viable deal that tacks on 2-3 more years beyond Arby years I am all for it. If we were to see a slip it's likely we would have seen it by now. Rest of your comment is spot on. The only one I would maybe consider for an extension beyond Devin is Rowdy. On the simple fact you know what you have, he is average or a little better than average at first base, and should be affordable. It would be nice to have a single position where the consistency is pretty standard. Should allow the OF and Turang Development to progress while having that known commodity at first.
  18. You got a ton of faith to expect them to get 1 run against a lefty. Honestly, the fact that the Brewers front office did nothing to address this in the offseason is mind boggling. The true definition of insanity.
  19. I know the Pen numbers for guys are always finicky and can change on a dime from season to season but it's painful to see what Topa and Suter are doing, while we are struggle to put all aspects of our pen together.
  20. When your entire team can't hit lefties the best thing you can do is start guys (lefties or not) that are making better contact over the past few games. Not sure it would change much of anything but no reason that BA/Winker/Turang aren't in today. Lefty/Righty matchups mean nothing with this team. Play the guys at least making better contact over the past few days. This team is just brutal to watch. Feeling like 2022 when the pitchers feel things gotta work out perfect or it's an L
  21. Lots of it is in his subtle hand movement with the bat prior to the pitch. When he moves his bat down, to get into his swing motion he is resetting at a level that is higher than his projected point of contact. We are talking a fractional amount but enough to 'high point' the ball leading to a substantial amount of ground balls. The inability to find that placement again, consistently, is the biggest problem. It's why you have a game or two where the point of impact is correct, seeing glimpses of the old Yelich. I would venture much more of his issue is related to the back problems he has had over the past few years vs his knee issues. No doubt he has worked on this, the batting coaches have seen it, however I think it's something that is never coming back.
  22. Looks like we will be lucky to get 5 out of Lauer, best case scenario
  23. He is going to finish this last inning no matter how many runs he gives up. He is definitely throwing his last inning as a Brewer.
  24. I truly don't understand why the union fights so hard against robo umps. No umpire loses his job. They just call the balls/strikes with what is correct. It's mind boggling that in today's day and age, with the technology that is had, it's even up for debate. We, of course, have been the benefactors of bad calls just as much as we have had bad calls go against us. I just don't understand how the desire to 'get it right' isn't prioritized.
  25. I would suspect the two teams 'most likely' to sign him for Vets Minimum would be the Rays. They have an unreal ability to get the best out of pitchers. With Springs going down with TJ, they are left with McClanahan, Rasmussen, Bradley, and a returning Eflin. I would think they may sign him to a Vet Minimum deal, give him a few starts and see what happens instead of burning another prospect's service time. Just buying time before one of their numerous DL guys comes back. The Athletics. Their SP's have been just as bad as Mad Bum. I could see them doing the same as the Rays but with a bit longer leash in the hopes that he finds something and they can move him at the deadline. Don't think any other team even considers him. A's much more likely than the Rays.
