  1. Teh transfers were good in that those kids likely had no business here anyway and would be clogging up spots. So, still a negative in that he could only get last ditch guys who weren't good enough for a high major. Just not in the way you said. Getting those guys to leave allowed for this shot at the Hausers and to try for better recruits going forward. Another knock I'd say now is how stingy they are on offers due to worrying about scholarship numbers, when the reality is they've struggled to even fill their scholarships. For example, well the whole Herro/hauser class so they didn't get any of the like 5-6 high major recruits from WI that year, probably the best WI class ever. But after that, there is twins last name Davis in state now. Obviously they want to play together but we only offered the better one, I mean we currently have 4 unused scholarships I think we can probably cast a bit wider net.
  2. First, the crazy fan thing is relevant to all schools with any fanbase of any kind. So not really accurate to say you wouldn't go to WI because of it, you're just aware of WI. Psychos on twitter and message boards exist for all. Ripping Gard for missing instate is generally fair, I'm annoyed too. But, have to remember Bo did the same thing. This is nothing new and it's primarily due to style of play. If you're a top notch recruit you don't want to play this slow down style where you can't really showcase your individual skills. Plus, when they did get a top 15 recruit they made him come off the bench for a year behind Brusewitz and Evans. I'm sure that didn't help. You also can't ignore the $$ issue in CBB, haters can sit here and say it's an excuse and all that but look at all that's come out in this scandal, it's true. Plus two of homegrown mega recruits in Stone/Looney were implicated right in it just like was said at the time. I'd say their biggest mistake isn't missing these top notch guys, but rather that they're putting too much time/effort into them when they're lost causes (plus might only play 1 year) when they could've been focused on the next tier or two below who'll stay 4 years. Football is just a different animal than basketball due to AAU exposure all over the country in bball. Plus, in football you have to play 3 years regardless so the one year showcase to get drafted doesn't exist. Essentially, in football you know you need to be developed for the NFL and UW does that as well as anybody. Especially at OL and LB. Plus, it's very rare that a top level recruit is ever from WI (partially due to lack of exposure up here). And again, UW pumps out NFL players as good as anyone other than true blue bloods so it's where you'd want to go. BTW- There is a top notch 5 star DL from MKE coming in the next year or two and the last I heard he left WI to go to a prep school elsewhere and it's unlikely he'll go to UW since he'll have the Bama and Clemsons on him.
  3. Guys like him and Cam Johnson could be the types a team in MKE's position need to target. High floor guys where you kind of know what you're going to get and should be minimum rotation players even if they don't have 'star' potential. Same logic as to when they got Brogdon. They're about to get put in a painful cap space situation, finding bench role players for cheap late in the 1st and with 2nds could be very helpful. Essentially if you can get a couple rotation spots filled for league min it would really help ease the cap/tax bill. I guess just saying in their situation I'd target these folks over boom/bust upside guys.
  4. No reason to use 2 ways on guys like that. Just sign them to D league if they're willing, if not oh well.
  5. On the other hand they did a positive beyond what most teams would have done by bringing him up at all when they did it. That shouldn't be forgotten. Now, if he was raking and sent back down, of course that makes sense to be annoyed by. But so far he's just doing OK so it's not really too outlandish. Just saying them giving him a chance early to rake and stay up is more than what most teams would've done. Many actually might've waited out this whole year then waited until mid April next year to gain the year, essentially what CHC and Tor did for Bryant/Vlad.
  6. Shooting is obviously important here. Cam Johnson and Dylan Wilder could be options around our area. Herro too if he drops. Agree on the recent post about a PG would be the ideal position to get a competent role playing backup due to likely losing Hill. The FVV/Josh Hart types of years past.
  7. I've thought of Braun too but I doubt he's put in any practice time on it since mid last year. Plus, it would just lead to a lefty playing elsewhere in Moose at 3B or Gamel in the OF (perez can only play over 1). Granted, they're better than Shaw/Thames vs lefties though. I'm usually one of the more patient, don't overreact quickly to small sample size guys but it really looks Aguilar might never recover. Even now only playing vs lefties he still looks lost. IDK how much longer they can wait what better RH 1B options are out there for cheap right now.
  8. Strongly disagree on them not being good players like Nate mentioned. First, simply remember one was a freshman last year. Second, they'll be sitting out a year and will only get better in that time. Sam will be what a 23 year old senior playing vs 18 and 19 year olds. Joey now a Junior, there's massive room for improvement. Third, 6'8-6'9 guys who can dribble/shoot are exactly perfect fits for the UW system that needs big guys to play outside. Fourth, they essentially only have one promising big man recruit coming. They're perfect fits at for UW and fill a clear need. Really if they disliked Woj this much the better move would've been to Joey come here right away then Sam redshirt and transfer. It's' over though, hope they do well. Yea the only rumored stuff is the mom is very anti UW and never got over it from Sam's first recruitment. I hope there is more to it than that but who knows. I mean, if that's the case how does Gard not pick up on that during Joey's recruitment and offer some other players.
  9. Going into it all if they didn't consider UW I wouldn't have been surprised. I'm sure they heard BS the last few years after Joey didn't commit, plus playing for a rival and all I would get it. Not a big deal. But to have gone through the whole process and committed only to back out is odd. Wonder what happened.
  10. Yea no way I wouldn't paint this as a blow to UW. They had everything lined up for this and somehow it didn't work out. They're good players who can legit shoot, yea UW needs more of that on the roster. no way around it. This is going to be really interesting once the real story comes out. How do you commit and back out a few days later. Story being the mom didn't want them there, I just mean how wasn't that discussed before committing. Who knows the real story, I'm sure we'll hear it eventually. I'll be more than annoyed if they committed and we had to tell them 'sounds good but we need to confirm with admissions, give us a few days,' which ticked them off to do this. Doubt that's the case but we'll see. Overall just a surprising turns of events all the way around. Younger commits largely due to bro. Sam/family apparently liked Woj enough 18 months ago to have Joey come there. 18 months later they don't. Seemingly want to go to same school yet somehow split because only school that can take both is UW but supposedly won't go there due to past coach not offering Sam years ago and that's disrespectful. Even though UVA and MSU didn't either and now are willing to only take one, yet somehow that's not an issue. Oh well, interesting saga. I still hope they do well other than vs UW.
  11. They gave up 105 pts and have been holding Tor below all of their normal stats. D isn't the problem. Half court offense has been the problem. Of course, part of their D strategy has been to force or let the blah shooters into taking the shots. Sorry, that's what FVV is and he's been awful all playoffs. Guy got hot at the wrong time, part of the game.
  12. Exactly and I'm fairly sure for some reason Mid shoots poorly on open looks if you find the data. Somehow he's better with a mid range shot and a guy draped on him than he is wide open. Especially when if you remember back when he first got good for us years ago he was just a marksmen from the corner when left wide open.
  13. Yup it's a collection of ok shooters but no true sharpshooters. So the whole 3 barrage of the season was just about volume, not that they're particularly great shooters. I assume the %s are very middle of the road as a team, which is probably more glaring considering how open they are. Middleton really should be a better shooter than he is, for some reason he shoots a poor percent on wide open shots.
  14. You aren't wrong, but there have been plenty of times where Giannis draws that and needs to pass but instead Bledsoes his way to the basket and either coughs up the ball or gets fouled and doesn't convert. That's been his biggest weakness in this series. He was able to overcome it in the Boston series after Game 1, but he's still forcing too much. One other thing that's stuck out to me, and again, I didn't coach Basketball, just been a fan for a long time, so I could be wrong on this, but it appears to me that when he's driving and he picks up the ball, he's usually not holding the ball high where he can elevate and either make a pass or shot a 8 footer cleanly. He's going down and trying to come up strong and getting the ball stripped or deflected when he goes to pass. Same thing Bledsoe's doing to a degree, but the difference is about 10 inches. The Raptors, namely Kawhi and to a lesser degree Siakam among their bigs have really good hands, so maybe he's worried about getting it stripped. I don't know, maybe someone who's coached the game can tell me if I'm off on this one or not. Don't think you're wrong but it's also how he always does it with the Euro step. So it's not like he's doing something different. Main difference is regular season when three guys bump him and reach in and hit him on the arms it's a foul. Now, it's not.
  15. You aren't wrong, but there have been plenty of times where Giannis draws that and needs to pass but instead Bledsoes his way to the basket and either coughs up the ball or gets fouled and doesn't convert. Agree on that. Kind of what I was thinking with the him passing it earlier before he gets off balance, same notion to basically not force it. This is counter to the joe schmo fans take of "he's the MVP he's just gotta force it and attack and just get it done". If anything I think he's forcing it too much, like you're getting at, whereas they should be playinga s a team and taking advantage of this sag. Like initially go so the help guy sags in but then move the ball quickly to the wing. Then that guy attacks, swings, repeat, until someone is wide open a crease is made for a finish at the hoop. Brog, Hill, Bled are good drivers. Attack those closeouts.
  16. I would just say to folks trying to rip or cut down Giannis here to keep it in perspective. He's being guarded by 3 guys. You can't just "want it" enough to score through 3 guys. The issue is they seemed to have abandoned any flow and motion in their offense and are relying to much on him driving straight at 3 guys waiting for him. Need other ways to get going with ball screens, starting him low, have others start with the ball, him kick it before he gets off balance so he can get zip on the pass, etc. IF you have this advantage of a guy being guarded by 3 you have to be able to get countless wide open shots off it. Yet somehow they're not, Mid only got up two 3 balls last night, how is that possible.
  17. I've had the Brown idea in my mind too. He was basically their starter down the stretch and did well. And did well in the Det sereis. Perfect size strenght to gaurd Kawhi. OBviously not advocating 25 mins but one session each half for 3-4 mins to maybe give Mid/Brog a break from Kawhi. As I've said, I'm all for reducing the bigs' minutes so that's a spot some of them could go, besides just more Hill/Brog.
  18. I agree with the Giannis just dribble straight at a set D as a bad offense. Need movement of some kind, screens whatever. However, off that the best O they had last game was when he'd swing to the wings and they'd attack the closeout. You know who can't do that, bigs. You just don't need 3 bigs on the floor when they only have 2. They only have 3 bigs total so obviously they don't play together much since you need to rest. I looked it up and they've only played all 3 together 7 total minutes, 3 of which came last game due to Ibaka playing great. Plus, since we're playing 3 bigs a lot they can if they want. The lineup data on that starting unit is terrible. And we've lost every Q1 other than 2 in the 9 games since Boston started. Another reason for bad rebounding isn't just lack of size. It's bad when you get scrambling, this is why we sucked with Kidd and that's what they've been doing on D. We have big guys running around the perimeter trying to chase wings/Gs. They can easily attack them and swing and keep you chasing until they get a wide open shot. All the while your guys are horribly out of position for rebounding due to scrambling. They need an overhaul on D. First with playing logically, there's a reason no teams play 3 bigs anymore. After that we'll see what else they try. Personally I'd stop the mass doubling/tripling of Kawhi since he's hurt and see how it goes. But you can stay home on shooters. Another option would be to switch like they did vs Boston. This would stop Gasol standing wide open uncovered for multiple 3s every game. And in general stop that all over. But risks a bad matchup vs Kawhi.
  19. Two playoffs ago Middleton was a choker, but now he's not. The biggest thing with Bledsoe isn't some made up choke stuff. It's that he's a mediocre shooter. In a small sample of games a mediocre at best shooter might shoot poorly. I grant their strategy of leaving him super wide open might be messing with him a touch, but that would happen regular season too. Guy just has to attack and drive, play to his strengths. But with the way they're defending us, more Hill/Brog is needed especially at crunch time due to them being better shooters
  20. Yes, they don't but there's also no reason they can't if the team allows it. No other teams allow it though because it looks terrible and as if this jabroni celebrity is bigger than the team. It shouldn't be about him. And again toe to toe with the court isn't actually being on the court. Tons of guys are toe to toe. Think of times when refs have to move fans so players have space to stand sideline to in bounds. For the employee aspect, imo that's the big negative of this. If anything being an employee or whatever he qualifies in this ambassador role should be the biggest thing that stops him from acting like this, not the other way around. Basically in a specific function with the team he should act like a professional with respect. If he was just a fan he can do whatever dumb stuff he wants just like anyone else can, as long as not vulgar and racist.
  21. Shove? he walked by him and they bumped a bit and he immediately apologized. Probably like dozens of other guys did to each other and to players on the court. Look at any game when the players walk off through a mess of people, they bump all the time. It's like wading through any crowd. Granted, I'd have my money that Drake did it on purpose because he's full of himself. I'd also have my money that they're friends and it was messing around. Quick google: http://time.com/4543654/drake-nba-bandwagon-fan/ ETA: your last post on actual basketball is exactly what I've been saying as well. The stubbornness on this big lineup makes no sense. Bunch of folks keep obsessing about DJ Wilson because he's quicker than our other bigs. that's not it, you don't need the 3rd big on the floor. It shouldn't be hard to see. I have no idea why they've been so stubborn or why Niko has earned this much respect.
  22. Well that's after the game when tons of people are on the court. Drake doesn't get on the floor during the games I've seen. Last game with the walking in front of other people's seats is the most I've seen. But really that's on them if they want to bend over for a celebrity over all their other fans to stand in front of them and make it all about him. But that's not on the court. Tor also seems to have a bit of weird setup with that much space in between the seats and the court so it looks worse. Most front court seats if you stand up you're essentially toe to toe with the court like he is. To me though the main point should be that a team employee shouldn't be acting like that. Otherwise why doesn't everyone name someone an Ambassador and give them free reighn to go all over and heckle players. Well, i guess its kind of like a mascot, haha.
  23. I really don't care about the Drake thing. To me, they can handle however they want. I mean, if Bud wanted a buddy standing next to him rubbing on him he could, his call. I think the only legit argument would be that as a team employee of the Raps he shouldn't be heckling the other team the way he does. If he was just a fan, well then same as anyone else and all guys in the front row stand and yell. Team employees though aren't supposed to be doing that.
  24. Found one example that showed up right away, there is more out there. here you go: http://www.82games.com/gamewinningshots.htm . This is a few years old but I'm sure it's not terribly different now. Yes, of course you should be nervous since it's so late in the game and if it doesn't go your way you're likely in big trouble but it's clearly less than 50% they make the shot
  25. Encarnacion would clearly be the safer choice from here on out. He's been consistent for years whereas it sure looks like Jesus won't come close to what he was for that awesome run he had last year. Of course you never know, but if you were gambling on who would be better to finish this year I'd say you'd be a fool to not bet on Encarnacion. That said, whether its worth the financial cost is a whole different discussion.
