  1. Sorry, that was me who brought that up. I fear the real point was missed, though. Well turns out boycotting isn't even enough!!! haha. Let's get a billboard going.
  2. We just won 96 games, made game 7 of the NLCS. Are now 1 game out and on pace to win over 90 games and make the playoffs again and we're talking about boycotting games due to mismanagement. Gotta love it.
  3. Market size > smallest revenue > 15-20th smallest So you're upset the smallest market team in MLB is operating itself so well that it's generating enough revenue to spend in the middle of the pack instead of the bottom of the pack? I know the revenue info. I was commenting that we're the smallest market, we all know this going in. So complaining that we don't have unlimited money is just obtuse. If you don't want to have this problem be a Cubs/Dodgers/Yanks/Sawx fan.
  4. Really good post. You won’t get much of a response, because it’s hard to argue against your more than reasonable take. I think we're all forgetting that Kimbrel was terrible to finish last year. This is a way riskier signing than is being let on. If we lock in 15ish mil the next two years after this it limits position player moves similar to Moose/Grandal to fill gaps that will show up due to our limited position player farm right now. It is perfectly logical to value position players over a relief pitcher. Then throw in the risk of this year, all Ps who signed late last year kind of flopped. So you're not likely to get him even pitching until late June and it's very questionable how much he helps this year and you might risk a lot of games as he works back into shape. Or of course it's possible he does well, but it's not guaranteed by any means. Big pic, I think most folks would probably agree that generally speaking the most inefficient spot to spend big money is on bullpen due to the flukiness and up/down nature of relief pitchers combined with their actual limited effect on winning games. And pretty much everyone would agree that closers are the most over inflated position in the game. Essentially 15 mils spent on a very small amount of innings and in an area proven over the last several years to be way overblown in regards to winning. Yet here we are with a contingent complaining about it as if it's a blasphemous decision. Would I have taken him or preferred he not be on the Cubs, yea of course. But it's also totally logical and likely smart to spend this money elsewhere and that money spent elsewhere will help win more than this would. For the complaining on being cheap, I think you can find similar posts last March/April regarding the late signing Ps and Darvish, and it turns out Stearns was correct and he dodged bullets there.
  5. I'd argue they should have signed Giannis to a max the first time around and made it a 5 year deal. It may end up working out better for both sides, but when you have a superstar like Giannis, you don't make the mistake the Wolves did with Love. I'm not a fan of asking a guy like that to take a little less to keep talent around him. Particularly on his first deal. I REALLY hope they don't even think about trying to give him less than the Supermax next year unless he's firmly on board with it well in advance. Some of those moves they made...they look worse in retrospect than they did at the time. I was never a fan of the Vasquez trade, but if he doesn't get hurt, he's a pretty solid backup PG. The deals they signed when the cap went through the roof, those are the types of deals that were made across the league. With regards to Parker, that hurts the most. Hitting an HR on Giannis and then getting the #2 pick should have provided the core for this team. Instead, we got a very talented scorer who tore his knee up twice, never got going and now seems to be a pretty irrelevant player. I can't blame them for Thon either because that type of risk is the type of risk that netted us Giannis. But getting every single one wrong and not getting any luck just backed us into a corner. I think Horst has done an amazing job at fixing some of those bad deals by dumping salary though. I'd imagine a great deal fo the trepidation also comes from the fact that the last time the Bucks were in this position, they let a coach with an enormous ego blow the team up so he could get a guy well past his prime to come to Milwaukee even though he didn't want to. This time...we've got Giannis. As long as Giannis is saying he wants to stay in Milwaukee, I'm going to feel pretty confident. Good post overall. Couple things, first MKE didn't ask Giannis to take 4 years. That was him, he wanted to get to this mega contract a year earlier. It wasn't out of MKE being cheap. In order to have it be locked in amount instead of a % of cap I think they had to make slightly less than max. Either way, this is what Giannis wanted so he could get the 200 mil contract locked in asap. Thon, for sure they can be blamed for reaching on a guy projected to be a 2nd round pick that high especially after the age info leaked that day. Huge mistake. Jabari, while you're right you can't blame them for taking him and that it's horrible luck overall with the injuries and that a #2 pick flopped. But there is blame that they didn't see the issues two years prior to him being a FA and moving him for a better fit. Would've been ballsy and way forward thinking but signs were all there. Most basic being that the other two best players on the team played the same positions.
  6. Follows/roots for the smallest market team in MLB then complains about it being the smallest market team in MLB. It is what it is, we know what we have here.
  7. Well it is a fair statement to say he failed as a starter so far this year. But that for sure doesn't mean he's failed forever or that he shouldn't get another crack, especially at his age. That's what I think is going on here. He went to the pen to take a breath and generally he's been ok since then. So they're giving him another shot, hoping to get what they expected to start the year, which is totally fair. Since his demotion he's done 16 1/3 innings for 4 runs, I think one of those games he technically did start though. I see the logic too of Wilkerson talk but I think they're just viewing it there is a reason they brought Peralta up last year so young, when he did fairly well. Trusted him to pitch late season games last year and trusted him to open as a starter this year. And they're sticking to it, especially since he has rebounded well over his last 16 innings.
  8. Anderson has clearly been better than what was out there to start the year. He's helped stabilize things. Is he some rockstar, of course not, but frankly they don't really have any better options right now. Consistent mediocrity isn't the worst thing. And 4 runs in 4 innings isn't something ridiculously awful, the bullpen implosion after is what made this game embarrassing.
  9. Sign and trades are way more difficult now. I'd guess they're just going to see what someone signs frank to then decide. And since no one is going to want to risk offering Frank a big contract he might just sit there forever because teams know if they offer what they're comfortable paying (cheap) then Cha will just keep him. Hornets option that could convert Snell into something useful could be Zeller. Similar but slightly more expensive contract. we'd have to add on, with maybe a Pat type guy or picks. Seems Cha really loves Zeller though. Wouldn't surprise me that with proper coaching Zeller could learn to shoot 3s at respectable clip. Not something I'm looking to do, but Snell's money spent on Zeller is better than on Zeller (and you could then let Brook go saving the Exception for Hill).
  10. Frank is a FA and I doubt he gets much if anything above the minimum. He did finish the year well but he's not going to command much. Probably will get a small one year prove it deal. Though he is restricted so complicates it a bit unless they renounce right away, but they have other bigs ahead of him.
  11. Especially when the other two best teams in Tor/GSW are likely losing their best players. ETA: Odds online currently have the Bucks as the #2 favorite to win the title next year after GSW. Tor is the 2nd East team and they're almost 3x higher payout.
  12. Really I'd be kicking the tires for teams on Aguilar. IDK enough about the AL teams 1B/DH situations but there is so many bad teams over there not trying to win that you'd think one would take a flyer on him and toss us some Adam Lind trade type prospects we might be able to get lucky on like with Freddy. ETA: great post by BillHallstar last page that really nails it from a roster management perspective.
  13. FVV, Hart...but are there any out there this year? There's the PG from Purdue, Carsen Edwards. Didn't stand out in the couple games I saw parts of Purdue play. He can shoot the 3, but he looks like primarily a scorer. Just say Edwards on a list now and he should be available around our pick. I actually think he'd be a good gamble on, projects to me like a solid backup PG option. Tough to expect him to be a starter due to his height. And yes he is probably jmore scorer than PG, but frankly that's just how the PG is played now anyway. It's not the Bob Cousy position anymore to just distribute, you need guys who can create off ball screens and hit shots. His shooting is there and could see a very FVV like career for him. Similar size and everything. His teams have done nothing but win at Purdue so I wouldn't call him a chucker. Actually think he's a great fit here especially if they lose Hill.
  14. It's a win if Shaw goes back to what he was. Obviously who knows if that happens but that's how it becomes a win and what they're shooting for here.
  15. But then you're putting 850 OPS Thames on the bench. If you're insisting on Shaw being up then it's totally logical to put Hiura down as there just isn't enough ABs to go around combined with it limits you by a bullpen arm. Both guys need to be playing every day (well Shaw everyday vs righties). Aguilar not having an option is the real killer here.
  16. That's a great point. I guarantee Kris Bryant and Boras remember how he was held back before being called up. They've tried locking him up long term and he's resisted. I would be very surprised if he stays in Chicago, barring an overpay. I feel like Bryant is going to end up on the Dodgers in 2-3 years when his team control is up. Totally different situation. Hiura was an injury replace, and I'm sure he was told he'd be a temporary injury replacement. If the Brewers truly wanted to manipulate Hiura's service clock, they would have just brought up Saladino or Spangenberg to begin with, rather than calling up a guy with all of 6 weeks of AAA experience. I totally get being bummed about Hiura going down, but I don't think trying to manufacture drama is the answer to justifying the move as a mistake. Moreover, we're bringing him up this year as opposed to waiting until Mid April next year like Bryant and Vlad
  17. I don't see an issue. If anything he was called up earlier that most teams would've. Most would've waited until after that date. He's spent what 6 weeks in AAA and was brought up? That's very quick. In lots of teams he'd be on ice until mid April next year and MKE is clearly not doing that so he should be more than happy with how he's been treated.
  18. I bet they were clear of that being the plan, but it doesn't mean it was because of a few mil 6 years from now. Reasons its risky would be because Shaw could've got legit injured more. Someone else could get injured that necessitates Keston to stay up (say Moose broke his hand Saturday like almost happened). Huira could've hit .450 with no errors so you just can't send down. It risks the fan reaction they're getting now. Tons of stuff like that could've happened that risked the status if that's what they're so concerned with. And again it's a few mil several years from now, if he's good I'm sure their plan is to sign to an early extension anyway to avoid all that. I generally agree they know the dates and this was the plan and the whole time and they stuck to it, I'm just saying if all they cared about was super 2 here(as some implied) then they wouldn't have even bothered bringing him up until after the date at all. I think it's simply them sticking to the plan and being loyal to Shaw. I disagree with it as I'd have waited another week to see if Shaw actually hit in AAA and re-assessed, but I think it's loyalty and them not being able to option Jesus that lead to this.
  19. I don't know about that. Why not just call up Saladino as Shaw's injury replacement then? I think the optics of the move are better if this is indeed about service time if they recall Shaw. I am not saying I would do that, or it's the right move, but if you want to avoid Super 2 and have plausible deniability I think you need to recall Shaw and not Salandino. He meant originally. Why bring up Keston at all if they were so worried about super 2, they've had just brought up Saladino two weeks ago instead. I generally agree. If they were so worried about Super 2 he wouldn't have come up at all.
  20. Because he has an 850 OPS. Him and Shaw cancel each other out. The question is if Shaw has to play would you rather have Hirua or the Thames /Aguillar platoon. Sign me up for Hirua every day. Sure but if in 2 weeks Shaw is still a mess then you have no one to play 1B. In the scenario you just said Aguilar should be the one out. Essentially though this move was to kick the can down the road 2 more weeks and re-assess.
  21. Because of the 3 candidates to play 1B he's the only one doing reasonably well. Someone else said the ballsy move would be to waive Jesus. I'm never one on the overreaction/small sample side but to me he still looks completely lost. Still don't think I can give up yet but I'm really starting to think he might never be a positive contributor again. Hope I'm wrong.
  22. I thought Hiura looked fine at 2B. He did have some errors at bad times that directly cost runs, but really they seemed kind of fluky to me. Two on throws to 2B, one which hit the runner. 2 errors on one play due to the Ps glove misdirecting a ball, which led to him rushing a bad throw to 1st that he should've ate. The only spot I could see some value in him adding for this year would be LF. SS is impossible and the corner IF spots are covered. Gamel obviously is good 4th OF but if an injury were to occur (Braun is overdo for a 10 day stint) it would be nice be able to have Hiura get some ABs out there as well rather than Perez. Due to his speed you'd think with a bit of practice he'd be better in LF than Thames.
  23. Well no way I'm rooting for Shaw to do poorly. It's a good problem to have if all are hitting. If Shaw gets it going and Thames gets hurt or goes through a prolonged slump, boom Huira is back. A lot of things can happen in the next few weeks to bring him back. If Shaw gets going it's only a good thing. One thing I thought of is that due to the timing he can't come back for Hous when they need a DH.
  24. Yea I think this was semantics. OP meant for this season. For three guys struggling, he meant Jesus, Shaw, Thames. I agree Thames has basically been doing just fine, and actually kind of hot the last week or so. So it's two guys now. It's just kind of too bad Thames/Shaw are both lefties and do poorly vs lefties so a combo doesn't work.
