  1. Yes. This idea used to be floated more around starting P though and when we had Sheets who couldn't hit a lick. Moves the P spot down one
  2. They have? News to me. Quintana has killed us but has like a 4.5 ERA facing everyone else and Cubs gave up what looks like a for sure star player. They haven't missed on much. I don't think they're kicking themselves too badly on Darvish either. They were rumored to be in on Sonny Gray last year too. That hasn't exactly worked out for the Yankees. It's the IGT. I'm overreacting. haha. Yea Cobb, Lynn haven't been too much to lose sleep over either. Arrieta has been fine but is he worth that money at that age? Meanwhile Chacin and Miley are better than all them for like 10 mil total
  3. Pinas OPS was over 900 in August and Kratz was under 700. So yeah it’s time to stop alternating and Play Pina especially with all the off days. That is unless pinas got something else. Because the defense is in his favor too Exactly. And it's not even a 50/50 lately. More like Kratz 2/3. I assume something is up with Pina but I haven't seen any explanation

  5. Nope, lousy frame but both Foxtrax and Gameday have it right on the corner. Can't complain about a correct call. Looked inside according to the live game. That's what I went on. I concur. I never look at Foxtrak, PitchFx, Gameday, or whatever. I believe the tech is lacking a bit. I prefer the subjective eye test. Mainly why I am against replacing umpires with computers for balls/strikes. I don't know if what Fox is using here is the same as what they would have in place if they went to the machine system but the science is done on the machines if they go that route and no reason not to trust it. if you have a couple mins some time just google and read into it, the concerns that likely pop into your head are accounted for
  6. eye test says ball but the box on tv had it catching the corner. one of those you can't really blame the ump either way. But with how badly he missed his spot and how the C had to reach away like that the ump usually calls that a ball. Whole inning could go differently if that's called a ball
  7. Probably because Quintana's pitching and odds are they won't get two runs off of him. Seems with two guys on they stay back to prevent the blooper than can score two. with one they try to cut it off at home. Playing back with 2 you'd still keep the guy on 2nd from scoring. Playing back with only on 3rd you're just giving up that run for an out. If you give up the blooper you give up the same 1 run anyway
  8. I know Kratz has been hitting well and all so this isn't a complaint but it pops in my head times like now due to his so so blocking skills. But have they really said why he's playing so much more than Pina? lingering effects from that HBP to the face? Pina was hitting the wall great as well
  9. I thought the same with rec softball, my guess to the hesitation was they assumed MLB hitters would be good enough to just take advantage of the gaps if they were there and just get base hit after base hit. So far that's not the case
  10. Yea I'd assume ballpark related profit would go to WAS and/or hurricane charity type stuff. Some money to be made in the community area by bars/restaurants etc and money for the people who work the games. Which is all good. But you're right the team itself likely doesn't get anything.
  11. Definitely hope they don't give out $10 tickets or however cheap those ones vs the Marlins were. Jack them up to $100.
  12. It is, I'm a bit surprised they went Shaw over Moose. I posted their splits vs the two pitchers in yesterdays thread which had it make sense to have Shaw yesterday and Moose today. What I thought of for the reason they didn't is with Miley pitching you know you'd get tons of grounders to 3B and Moose is better on D. they weren't wrong, he had a lot to him and he made the plays other than bad hop double in the first.
  13. Still if the option is Wrigley or MP you take MP in a second. Good for the money and at least it's some travel and not totally a home game. Better environment for the Nats too without the awful road clubhouse
  14. Yea that's a factor to skew a bit. But it's also because they still think they'll win the division and once they're in they have the best team and the best pitcher.
  15. It's because LAD probably have the most talent in the NL. They also match up well vs us due to the lefty pitchers. Plus, if they do well and make a run at the the division but fall short and end up with just WC instead then you're facing Kershaw in a one game playoff. Long story short, you just don't want them in the playoffs because they probably have the best team. Just a couple weeks ago in spite of them not being in the playoffs at the time they were the 2nd favorite by oddsmakers to win the NL. ETA: I just checked odds on my site again and Dodgers are still second favorite in the NL and barely behind the Cubs. +275 vs +300. There's a reason for that.
  16. I think they should keep Santana but I don't know the options status and how that will play. One significant injury to any OF and he'll be playing a lot, and we know how often Braun gets hurt. And it's not like you're going to be able to trade him for much right now
  17. I'd guess they don't pay up 10 mil for Soria as well just on the nature of how fluky relief pitching is. However, it wouldn't surprise me if they did just pay it with the logic being they'll likely be looking to acquire someone like him at the deadline (if contending) anyway who will cost several million so maybe pay a bit more and have the guy the whole year. Maybe they could negotiate a compromise though for a few million less. Have to think Moose is gone as he'll opt out. They'll keep Schoop. Agree on pretty much everything you posted though.
  18. Thanks. Very surprising to me, I would've guess worse. Even if you just go back the four games previous to last night he was 5/15 with a walk. Eye test isn't always right, maybe he hasn't been driving or hitting hard though
  19. Yea it happens to everyone and I know Rizzo has pitched once or twice. Quick scanning through the Cubs have one 18-5 loss and the rest are normal with the worst being 11-2 type stuff. Cards have a 13-5 and the rest normal 11-2 type stuff. Seems like we willingly took a 3 or 4 schallackings, who knows maybe some of them 11-2 ones were for them as well. Probably slightly skewed for us but nothing major. Specific to the Cubs, they frankly just have a better offense so they've likely just won games by more (we seem to always play close games) which means they're likely a better team than us. Remember our rash of shutouts against us too, that hurts this stat quite a bit. Overall the biggest thing I'd take from the stat I guess is that our offense has been so-so all year so we played a ton of close games and rarely win by a wide margin.
  20. Just looking at that, they'd likely get their whole team season's starting pitching for less money than one top level starter gets (Kershaw, Scherzer, etc).
  21. Don't forget the two or three games that we just punted and pitched position players and lost by like 20 in those games. Not sure if the Cubs/Cards did that at all, but it skews our number a bit.
  22. Odds are odds though. We were better off with home field vs STL rather than playing that loaded Philly team with those Ace pitchers. It's baseball though so anything can happen. We're better off vs the Cards but yea since it's baseball it's not like you go from 90% vs one team to 30% vs another. anything can happen.
