  1. If anything that second half should have forced them into the offense they should be running which is basically the same as New England's quick short passing game that, you know, wins the most games in the league almost every year. It will reduce the hits and injury risk to Rodgers and be less reliant on his athleticism/scrambling (as he slows with age), reduces exposing a blah offensive line. The calf injury the year they blew it to Seattle also had to be this way and they should've been in the SB without that crazy ending. I think someone noted it earlier, but you can see the talent level in the secondary is much improved with the 3 tops picks the last two years. That's progress for the D.
  2. Ah, just went through the play by play. Yea doesn't look like that one. Although, we hit a guy of theirs top of the 7th, likely not on purpose since guys were on base. Braun leads off next inning, HBP. Classic Cardinals. Might be the Molina blow up though, he got replaced in extras after getting caught looking.
  3. Top of my head i'm going to guess this was the one he fell for the bean ball bait from STL and it cost us the game? Maybe it was the game Molina also blew up on the ump, bumped him and spit in his face. I think that was the same game.
  4. I don't know how they can claim they're being screwed. First, it's just bad luck. But second, they're the mega rich team that refuses to build a new stadium
  5. clearly out on that replay. Can't believe they're not challenging. The one shot showed his glove right on Cain's wrist. I'll take it though
  6. Couldn't we argue it would be better for them to play today. Had a double header yesterday and this gives all their pitchers a day off before us. Yes, but I'm assuming we get Montgomery now tomorrow. We hit him hard last time if I remember correctly. well I'd assume their manager would get lambasted for days on end if he didn't pitch his 3 best pitchers against MKE as they're currently lined up. All kidding aside, I'd think they just skip Montgomery but we'll see.
  7. Couldn't we argue it would be better for them to play today. Had a double header yesterday and this gives all their pitchers a day off before us. Note, I'm not sure which of their best guys were used yesterday, just followed scores not all the specifics
  8. I wonder if they give him/Braun split playing tone in the OF next year and see if one shows he’s worth starting. They almost gotta give Santana 1 more shot. They can call up Ray if needed mid season I hope they dont sit Braun if hes hitting like he has lately. Yea Braun's advanced stuff points to him still being good and his second half actual numbers back it up. of course he needs his maintenance days and is likely hitting the DL once or twice next year so there's plenty of OF ABs. But what kills Santana is he's poor at D so he's libel to lose a roster spot to a good defender like Broxton to play that role instead, plus Perez too is there
  9. Just noticed David Freese got dealt to LAD. Yet another reason to be against the Dodgers getting in the playoffs.
  10. Surprised by the Cards odds in there for being in the lead now
  11. The Sunday Lineup thing really isn't a thing for this team anymore. It's a R/L lineup, that's it. Sunday lineup is a thing of year's past.
  12. That's the magnitude of Wednesday's game in a nutshell. But we also still may have lost with Yelich in the lineup. Winning wasn't a given. The Brewers definitely weren't playing great ball there for a while in that game, and the players who were throwing the ball everywhere weren't playing Yelich's position. his replacements went 2/4 with a 2 R HR and Yelich got a hit in his PH appearance. Think how much better Yelich would've had to do to do better than that line, plush whoever PH in his place would've had to do better than a single. OF course this is possible, but probably below a 3% chance. His D replacements messed nothing up on D either, they had no hand in those errors that gave the Cubs the game. People need to relax.
  13. I agree with questioning it initially. I did too with the preface of unless he has a nagging small injury thing. Then once they talk to the team it was exactly that, it wasn't general mental health day or scheduled maintenance day. he had a physical thing and they thought it best to give him a day. Done, move on. Then after that it got into bashing Perez in spite of the evidence to the contrary and Yelich's replacements go 2/4 with a 2 R HR plus Yelich gets used at a key time and gets a hit but still avoided playing D all day. Move on, it worked.
  14. I generally agree with Brew4u's sentiment here. This type of stuff makes us seem like the 'dumb fans' of other teams who don't see the big picture that smart baseball people (like most here are) tend to harp on. To a certain degree though it's just the nature of social media these days that everyone has a voice and loudest voice gets heard. Still, the second guessing, hindsight 20/20, and overall negativity has been on display here all year too among generally informed fans. We can all do better
  15. I agree on being against LAD. First, they're a better team than both AZ and COL talentwise, so better to have them not in. Plus, they're already currently behind. Best case scenario right now is Col winning all games vs AZ and LAD thus eliminating our WC competition
  16. Yea his strikezone has just been awful, both ways.
  17. Not a fan of that behind the plate angle they've been trying lately. You just can't see very well. Made me think though, what about putting cameras on the umpires somehow, that's some close up stuff then. Really see pitch movement.
  18. Any update on the Chocolate Cactus Bread or whatever from that commercial that's been played a million times?
  19. I'd guess they'll be in on Corbin in the rumor mill but he won't end up here as a big market will pay up. I'd guess they'll end up Miley type bargain shopping for depth and that's it, roll with the depth they have here while banking on the improvement (vs 2018 SP production) coming from Nelson, Davies, Burnes.
  20. Yea us joe schmoes sitting here can think that's the way it should be, but it's just not the reality of how relievers are used in today's MLB. Going 3 days in a row is rare, going 4 days in a row is almost unheard of. Knowing the Cubs luck though, they'll get an easy 9-1 right when they need it so they can rest everybody. If anyone should know this it's Brewers fans this year. As almost all our guys are managed this way other than Jeffress having a rubber arm
  21. Eh, the way I see it is the Cubs, on paper, should have lost last night being a Strasburg start. So even if they do lose a game due to a weak bullpen it just evens out. Also, I don't think they are really being asked to extend themselves that much. Most of those guys only threw a handful of pitches. Chavez, Cishek, and Wilson didn't even throw 1 full inning. Strop only threw 1 total. Chavez: 14 pitches Cishek: 6 pitches Wilson: 6 pitches Strop: 20 pitches. I'm sorry, but 6-20 pitches is not going to wear out anyone. It's when you have to ask your relievers to go multiple innings that you start having problems. Facing 1 or 2 batters will not even affect the pitcher come the next day. At most, maybe Strop is unavailable tonight for them. A few of them are going on multiple days in a row of pitching though. That's where the wear out comes and making them unavailable for games.
  22. Scherzer's stats are nothing to sneeze at either though.
  23. You can develop it though. And right now Peralta is the one who has shown the glimpses of it. You can have depth and still make sure a guy like that is in your rotation making those steps to stardom. I think you guys are all making great points and I think your viewpoints and expectations are very sound-minded. I really hope Freddy continues to step up and meet the challenge the team is going to put in front of him. It's going to be a blast watching people come to the realization of what the Brewers have here. And not just with him, the current core and a few overlooked, underappreciated youngsters in the minors as well. Sure, that's the plan with him and Burnes. He's 21 though, you also don't have to rush him. Let him take the time to develop the 3rd pitch without the pressure of MLB games for a winning team could be critical to making him a legit top level pitcher. Might be better for his long term health to be in AAA on a pitch count for a month or two to work his arm a bit less. And also good for him and the team for him to be fresher later in the year. As much as you're somewhat saying we're all underrating him, which of course could be true, there also seems like you could have a bit of overrating going on due to this personal connection you have to him. Regardless, good discussion and hopefully he just keeps on improving and is great for us for years. I really think with his odd delivery the key to him taking a big step (besides obvious BB reduction) is developing the change up. That pitch should be nasty with his delivery, think of how KRod made a career of that pitch due to his funky delivery.
  24. Positive spin. We're 4 back on Cubs and we all view it as long shot, rightfully so. We're also 2.5 up for the WC, so that should also be viewed as a long shot to blow it. Granted it's 1.5 less and more teams competing, but still. Just saying we're in a good spot for WC having 3 more Ws than the first team out. Just don't go laying eggs here against the crappy teams and we should be just fine.
  25. I would argue that he has plenty to prove in AAA: Showing he can cut his walks and taking time to develop a change up, even if there are bad results as he does it. Of course, if he shows great strides on this over the offseason and into spring training, whole different ballgame. I just think they'll err on the side of depth like they did this year and since he has options he's one that can bounce back and forth as needed. Basically I think we saw their overall pitching philosophy this year. They know we can't buy elite pitching, so they're going with the depth approach with heavy BP usage. Lots of mid level starters that are interchangeable and no major fall off when guys inevitably get hurt.
