  1. I don't see what you're disagreeing with, they lost those guys due to cap reasons. They were playing the cap game and it blew up in the face when Bosh backed out on them. Regardless, they lost two rotation guys in Asik/Lin and a solid starter in Parsons and only replaced them with one proven guy and the system is still working. Imagine how good they might be if Bosh did sign with them, they would have then signed Parsons and gladly paid the tax to chase the title. Starting lineup of Howard, Bosh, Parsons, Harden, Beverly.
  2. I agree with Briggs on Aram not being able to run anymore, was goint to post the exact same thing. It's good problem to have I guess, just hope guys like Lind, Gomez, Davis hit well enough that RR goes with it. Him being an old school guy I can totally see him sticking with Aram at 4 just because though
  3. Yea I'm not sure Seattle seems like a good fit at all. Maybe the Jack Z connection did it though. Why not go somewhere to have a chance at starting, like Toronto. They're also expecting to compete for the division this year too. Seemed like the best fit to me but there's probably some similar teams. Maybe SF too.
  4. I wasn't a fan of the hiring at the time just because I never liked him on account of being a multiple time wife beater (plus Big Dog should have gotten that rookie of the year, haha) But he's doing an amazing job, especially when you think about how many injuries have happened and whatever is going on with Larry. He just did leave a major market to come to Milwaukee. Maybe I'd fraze the concern around a contending team. Say OKC fires their coach this year and can't get Kevin Olley to leave UCONN, then maybe Kidd would go there and teach them how to run a motion offense. Chicago would be another one too, sounds like Tibs and management hate each other, granted Chicago is a major market. Wizards could be another, they're eastern conf contenders without a good coach. I just mean that NYK, Brooklyn and the Lakers are disasters, better off in Milwaukee right now. And if Giannis takes the next step and Jabari comes back and becomes a star, all of a sudden MKE has a legit shot in the east as Lebron ages.
  5. Another great win last night. 30-23 at the break, double last seasons wins already, who would have thought. I think that's 7 of their last 8. What do you think about Kidds chances for coach of the year? As of now, I think the ATL coach gets it but Kidd has to be 2nd. Warriors are loaded in talent so Kerr gets #3.
  6. Specific to the rockets, they're the most drastic team that shoots only 3s, layups, free throws. This is why he targeted Harden, it's exactly what he does and he is the foundation of the team. I guess its working for them, in this offseason they lost parsons, lynn, asik (three solid rotation players) due to salary cap reasons, with the only addition being Ariza and they're still winning by emphasizing this strategy. As someone else said, the most clear cut thing that has come from analytics in basketball is that long 2 pointers are the dumbest shots to take. Every team has adopted this (except for i guess the lakers and Knicks) in spite of what Barkley says.
  7. Remember a couple seasons ago when he played in the World Baseball Classic and then struggled to start the season due to lack of ABs in the spring? Wouldn't want a repeat of that, maybe they can get him ABs at 1B and when the DH is used in order to get him ready. No need to squat all day until he's fully ready.
  8. Anyone at all concerned that all this winning is taking a bit of playing time or experience away from the young players that need it or is it balanced the 'learning to win' element of it all? For example, last night's game they finished and played most of the fourth with Zaza, Middleton, Mayo, Bayless, and I think Dudley. I think I'd rather lose a few more games but have Giannis and Knight on the floor at crunch time, maybe even Henson more too. I mean, what's the different between the 6 seed and the 8th seed, they're not winning it all and are very unlikely to win a round one series. I know Kidd is doing a lot off of game flow as plenty of games Knight does finish, but I feel like Knight and Giannis should be in for the last 6 minutes of every game as they're the most important building blocks for the future.
  9. I don't think John Wooden would be considered "our era". Regardless, CBB setup was much different then. only like 8 teams made the tournament and he was paying his players illegally and always had by far the best team. I think Tom Trebelhorn could've led those teams to a few national titles
  10. I agree, he might be the most athletic person ever in the league. Durant is no slouch on that though, people tend to forget he's 7ft tall with the handle of a PG and has added the rim attacks to his game more and more over the years. Although I haven't been able to see many of his games this year, I might guess he has toned it down a bit this year with the ankle problem.
  11. I think I'd go Coach K #1. He really created the program and has to do it with high academic standards. And has essentially done it all scandal free. Then throw in his work resurrecting USA bball and the clear respect he has from people in all levels of basketball. #2: Popovich. The last few years of the Spurs has shifted the entire way NBA basketball is being played. For people not watching the NBA who think the league is still boring isolation, they need to watch games that don't involve Lebron and you'll see great basketball all over the league. Ironic thing about those people is they will all say the love Jordan and that the league fell off after him, when it's really his isolation style that everyone else copied that made the league bad to watch for years after he left. Belichick would probably be my #1 if not for the numerous scandals and shady tactics. I take Jackson out just because he had MJ/Pippen and Kobe/Shaq. and in spite of his zen master image he couldn't keep MJs head on straight to avoid the retirement/suspension and couldn't stop Kobe/Shaq from splitting up. Then he quit after the split and waited until Stern gifted him Gasol to come back and win again.
  12. I made the same comparison between Davis and Cespedes last year. First when he blew up at the HR derby and then with all the talk at the deadline. only one is paid near league minimum and the other is paid like a superstar, I know which one I'd rather have on a budget-conscious team like ours. Also, I'm glad to not have Shields on a 4 year deal like this when he's turning 34. I really doubt the Brewers were all that involved, could've just kept a 45 year younger Gallardo for half the price and gotten close to the same production. Great move for him though getting in a pitchers park as he declines, I think he could've been a problem the last 2 years for us in MP.
  13. from CBS power rankings: Last five games for Giannis Antetokounmpo: 17.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.0 steals, 1.6 blocks shooting 63 percent from the floor. He is well ahead of his projected improvement curve and "Greek Freak: Playoffs Edition" is enough to get you excited about the Bucks. --- All he needs is a competent 3 pt shot and he's a star. if he ever got a great shot then he's Kevin Durant. All accounts are that this kid works his ass off so I have to think he'll be able to greatly improve the shot this offseason. Especially if he doesn't play in any international competition and just focuses on improving his shot.
  14. I don't think they'll lose another game all year.
  15. found this on the tax: Miller Park officials had planned on ending a five-county 0.1 percent sales tax by 2018, but sluggish sales tax collections and flat investment returns have resulted in moving that projection to 2020. Initially, the sales tax was supposed to end by 2014, but stadium district officials delayed the sunset-estimate in 2012 to a 2018 time frame after several factors hurt tax collections. The recession curtailed consumer spending, the financial crisis reduced investment returns and there has been a huge increase in online purchases that don’t include sales tax. --- I guess what I'm thinking of is the conservative view that once a tax gets put in, it never goes away. So they've already stretched it out but, albeit with a good excuse as to why. Could be feasible to propose that once this ends for MP in 2018 or 2020 that it gets flipped to the bucks stadium. Most people would probably be more ok with that than to have it go on forever without a clear reason why. Overall I agree that it will all be a fight throughout, but considering so much money is already promised by Kohl and the new owners I'd be surprised if they don't find a way. Also, when looking up the tax thing I saw they received 40 MIL from Miller for naming right through 2020. Bucks should be able to get a comparable amount of money from a sponsor like BMO, unless they already told Kohl they'd put his name on it. Also, the NBA is printing money right now. Why can't they just give teams very low interest loans or some kind of help to fill gaps in funding like this.
  16. What about having Lesnar defend at the next PPV against someone like Cene or Rollins. If Cena or Lesnar the wins then Rollins uses the money in the bank and the administration goons help him win. Could be a way for Lesnar to lose the belt without having to actually lose. Then Rollins vs reigns could go to WM and they could use Reigns in the Cena role of overcoming every obstacle thrown at him. It would free Lesnar up for a Bryan david/goliath match at WM. Also, any chance they would use the briefcase after the WM main event? I think something good be done but I don't if they would want WM to have that as a finale (let me know if it's happened in the past, I can't remember for sure). After what happened with Reigns this week they could start to play him as the heel and start pushing Lesnar as face. Have Lesnar win but then have Reigns and Rollins team back up and beat him down, letting Rollins win the title. They can then use Lesnar as a face (kind of the old Cena role) in opposition to the authority, if he feels like sticking around WWE for a while. Can use Wyatt/Bryan/Cena all in that role actually. Problem of course is this would elevate rollins above reigns and it seem Vince doesn't want that, although the RR might have forced his hand.
  17. I would be shocked if they don't find a way to work this out. With the amount of money being kicked in by Kohl and the new owners already it shouldn't be too difficult to find the rest. This plan by Walker's team seems like a great idea and with his ties to Milwaukee have to think he'll make it a point not to let them leave on his watch. Also, what about the old Miller Park tax? If I remember correctly that tax never went away like it was supposed to but instead got used for funding other things. What about using that here?
  18. I would only take Krod as a last resort if other things fall through and I'd rather roll with Broxton as the closer. You just never feel comfortable with Krod out there anymore. I'd rather take a one year flyer on someone like Soriano and hope his second half collapse was due to a minor injury that has resolved itself over the offseason. Of the options discussed I'd take Papelbon first, problem of course is getting PHI to cover enough salary. It's not like he's a bad pitcher as everyone has been saying, he's just overpaid. I see the velocity going down and all that but he's been adapting to that and on a one year or worst case two the risk is minimal. I totally get why they're balking at that second year if Philly isn't kicking in big money. I actually thought Papelbon would have been a prime target during last season for exactly what we ended up doing with Broxton. But of course for some reason PHI terrible GM wouldn't move anybody. Plus we probably preferred Broxton due to price.
  19. I don't see the Brewers making a move on Shields. It just doesn't seem to make sense to me based on the Gallardo trade. They just got rid of Gallardo essentially because he's a FA after next year and they don't want to sign him to large 3-5 year extension, he's 28 years old and will throw 200 innings for a mid 3s era. Shields is already 34 and will require at least 3 years and likely 4 years, pitching into his 38 or 39 year old season and will likely have nearly double the annual pay than Gallardo. The only way it would make sense is a one or two year deal, which they would then be giving up a pick for only a year or two of a guy, also not really logical. I realize Shields is better and Gallardo has concerns due to the velocity dip the last couple years, but is he really all that much better? Some people are acting like Shields is a legit big time ace or something, he's a low to mid 3 era guy and he's already 34. I get that he has a decent chance to keep producing due to his velocity remaining consistent but there's still a huge chance for regression, especially when you factor in to moving to a hitter friendly park like MP. I could be wrong but I think TB and KC would lean towards more of pitcher parks. Basically, I think the Gallardo trade is clearly showing the Brewers plan to let Nelson start and save the money on this rotation spot.
