  1. I actually think the SkySox are going to be pretty good. The bullpen is nasty and they have a good lineup. I think Centeno has a good chance of supplanting Maldonado at some point in MKE.
  2. I would be ecstatic if the Brewers got Despaigne for Segura straight up. Despaigne put up a 3.36 ERA in 96.1 innings pitched last year. I doubt Segura is ever going to hit much at the mlb level. He was a 2nd baseman in the Angels system and IMHO he will likely end up there in the bigs. Just not much power, low obp, lots of K's. Maurer, Amerista and Barmes are garbage. I'd rather the padres just keep those guys. Frankly, the crew has Sardinas in AAA, he hits left handed, and cant be much worse than Segura. If Preller comes calling hopefully Melvin uses our SS depth to add some pitching. California Notes: Ross, A’s, Padres, Shortstops By Mark Polishuk [April 9, 2015 at 10:09pm CDT] With the Padres looking for shortstop help, Fangraphs’ Dave Cameron sees the Brewers’ Jean Segura as a realistic trade target. Cameron speculates that a deal of Segura for Odrisamer Despaigne, Brandon Maurer and one of Alexi Amarista/Clint Barmes could give both teams an overall roster upgrade. Beyond Segura, Cameron doesn’t see the likes of Troy Tulowitzki, Elvis Andrus, Starlin Castro or Jose Ramirez as plausible San Diego trade targets for a variety of reasons. For the 20th straight season, the Padres have signed Matt LaChappa to a minor league contract, a move that gives the southpaw a regular income and access to health insurance, USA
  3. Can we get it over with and just start the firesale now?
  4. Nelson struggled again today. 9 hits and three walks in 4.1 innings. The only silver lining is that he struck out 7 and gave up a mere 3 runs.
  5. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/298175901.html Tom Haudricourt with some comments from Jimmy Nelson on yesterdays disaster. The takeaway: 1. Nelson said he had 3 excellent innings and 2 to forget. He's already forgotten the 2 bad ones. 2. Nelson said his put away slider was not working.
  6. I forgot that they don't need a five starter until mid-April. That definitely changes the urgency here. That said, my concerns exist because not only is Nelson shaky, but our #4, Fiers, has never pitched a full season in the big leagues and has already been hindered by "arm fatigue" this spring. I just think its a pipe dream to believe that this team is going to have success with the 5 guys they currently have lined up. Maybe Jungmann or Thornburg is the answer. But if you are really trying to compete for a playoff spot, I think you would want to at least enter the season with 5 reliable guys.
  7. The Crew had the day off today, so apparently Jimmy Nelson went over to the minor league side and threw in a AAA game. Like the rest of his spring, the results were not pretty. Write-up here: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/298043631.html Before the season either Tom Haudricourt or Todd Rosiak predicted that the teams closer and one starting pitcher were not in camp at the start of the spring. They were correct the closer prediction as the team signed up K-rod a week into camp. I wonder if this doesn't force DM to pick up an experienced 5-starter who doesn't make another team? Thoughts?
  8. Not sure if the Brewers will keep 5 outfielders, so this may be irrelevant. However, I live in Arizona and have gone to 3 games over the last week. I've been generally less than impressed with the organizational depth in the upper minors(all of the talent , except Arcia, is a year away from every appearing in a Spring game). However, IMHO there have been three real bright spots, Corey Knebel, Chris Perez, and Matt Long. Long, to me, just looks like a baseball player. The guy looks like he has a plan at the plate, has some speed, and a little pop in his bat. I dont think he's going to be displacing any of our starters anytime soon, however, to me he seems to be all around one step up from Schafer. Better average, better power, better OBP. In addition I have also read that Long has played 2b and 3b in the past. The problem is that Long has options(or signed a Milb contract) and I don't believe Schafer does. Any chance the crew cuts ties with Schafer and looks at Long as the #5 guy in the outfield? Was Long highly regarded in the Angels system? Thoughts? *Mods: I posted this in the MiLB forum b/c Long has never played in the bigs, if you think it needs moved please do"
  9. As the Old Man from Pawn Stars would say: "Oh. My. God."
  10. Dont think Sardinas and Kintzler would get it done. Competant young 3rd basemen are a rarity in baseball these days. I would guess the crew would have to give pitching to get Cecchini and my concern is that he is an overhyped BOS/NYY prospect. I'd rather the crew get in touch with Jack Z. and go after someone like Stefen Romero from the Mariners who is blocked by Kyle Seager. More of an under the radar guy.
  11. It should be noted that Tickets at Peoria Sports Complex are pretty cheap as well. I scored two tickets behind the brewers dugout for Fridays game against the mariners for $60. Tickets for the Brewers games in Goodyear against the Reds and Indians are also on group for cheap. It's the Scottsdale and Mesa facilities that are ridiculous in price. I'd be very happy with a future west valley stadium.
  12. 78-84 assuming no mid-season firesale. I hate to be negative, but the Brewers are fielding essentially the same team as last year minus Gallardo, Reynolds, and Overbay. The only major addition is Lind and the rest of the guys are a year older. I expect a repeat of last year, except the Cubs look to be a much more stout opponent. Hopefully, if they are going to tank they do it early and Melvin can move some people for some minor league pieces. This team still has enough talent on the roster to re-stock the minor league system for a big time run in 2017-2018.
  13. Yahoo took down the image wires for each team. That was the only reason I visited the yahoo team sites. The only way to see the images now is to visit the associated press website and search for "brewers." They also have a spring training photos gallery here: http://www.apimages.com/Collection/Landing/MLB-Spring-Training-2015/5ad44633b45145a7b5233c4bf5d8045d/1
