  1. Brewers are playing some good baseball all the sudden. Ultimately just screwing ourselves out of the top pick.
  2. I disagree. The guy has put up an ERA of 2.79 over 5 starts. Obviously the league will adjust to him the second time around. But it would be nice to see if we have a #2, a #3, a #4, or a #5 type guy in Jungmann before next year. The only way to do that is to let him pitch at the MLB level. Lohse on the other hand has been terrible and does not have future with the team. Trade him for a bag of ballls of release him. Nelson has also looked bad, with the exception of 3 or 4 starts sprinkled throughout. I would not be opposed to sending him to AAA for a month if a Lohse or Garza trade is in the works.
  3. The Phillies are terrible. Actually making the Brewers look good.
  4. Well, if the Brewers are telling teams that Segura is not untradeable that means teams must be calling. The Padres and the Mets are the semi two contenders with the worst SS situation. Would those teams be willing to pony up the necessary prospects for Segura? Who knows.
  5. I was hoping for the #1 overall pick next June, but the Phillies are REALLY REALLY awful. Hey, at least the draft is supposed to big real good next year.
  6. I thought I'd revive the Segura trade thread. This was posted yesterday on MLBTR. Apparently the Brewers are not telling teams that Jean Segura is unavailable. I would suspect that the Mets and Padres would still be the best fit. But it remains to be seen if those to teams will be buyers or sellers. Quick Hits: Heyward, Segura, Giants, Joseph By Zach Links and Mark Polishuk [June 28, 2015 at 11:25pm CDT] Jason Heyward got off to a slow start with the Cardinals but he posted a .960 OPS and five home runs over 100 plate appearances from May 27 to June 27. As Heyward tells Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the improvement came in no small part due to intensive work on his swing, and it seems like things are finally clicking for the right fielder. If Heyward can keep this hot hitting going throughout the season, it will send his free agent value soaring; MLBTR’s Tim Dierkes has speculated that if Heyward could land a $200MM contract if he delivers a big season and proves he can be a consistent force at the plate. Here’s some more from around baseball as we head into the new week… The Brewers haven’t told inquiring clubs that they’re not trading Jean Segura, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel writes, but the team would clearly want a lot in return for the shortstop. Haudricourt ranks Milwaukee’s roster in terms of likely trade targets, and the only seeming untouchables being Jonathan Lucroy and young arms like Wily Peralta, Mike Fiers, Jimmy Nelson and others. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/06/quick-hits-heyward-segura-giants-joseph.html[*]
  7. This was posted today on MLBTraderumors.com Angels Looking To Trade For Hitting By Mark Polishuk [June 28, 2015 at 10:51pm CDT] The Angels are in the market for a big bat and have inquired about several players with other teams, FOX Sports’ Jon Paul Morosi reports (Twitter link). The best fit, as Morosi notes, would be a left-handed hitter with a good OBP and who has the ability to play left field or designated hitter. The Halos entered today’s action with unimpressive rankings in most of the major offensive categories, runs scored (22nd), on-base percentage (23rd) and OPS (23rd). The Angels have a cumulative wRC+ of 95, meaning that despite monster seasons from Mike Trout and Albert Pujols, the club is still creating five percent fewer runs than the league average. Aside from Trout and Pujols, David Freese‘s modest 102 wRC+ represents the only other above-average wRC+ for any Angels regular. Left-handed bats such as Ben Revere and Adam Lind have been linked to Anaheim in trade rumors already. Lind would certainly fit as a DH/1B who punishes right-handed pitching, while Revere is hitting .293/.330/.383 over 306 PA for the Phillies and brings some speed and left field defensive value. The Angels may be offering pitching in the form of C.J. Wilson or some of their second-tier pitching prospects. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/06/angels-looking-to-trade-for-hitting.html
  8. That at least gets his salary off the books. Guess I figured there would be other, better, LH relievers on the market and the brewers would get stuck holding the bag.
  9. I thought it was a misprint when I read it, but apparently according to Ken Rosthenthal Neal Cotts may draw some attention. It would be great just to dump his salary. On the negative side, K-Rod is drawing limited interest due to his salary. That's a shame since its rumored that the Marlins were willing to give more for K-rod this winter than the he ending up taking from the Brewers this winter. You'd think after a good half season there would be some interest. Here is the tidbit from MLBtraderumors: The Brewers aren’t receiving very strong interest in Francisco Rodriguez, likely in part due to his backloaded contract, Rosenthal hears. K-Rod is still owed $1.95MM in 2015, plus $9.5MM in 2016 between his salary and the buyout on a $6MM club option for the 2017 season. Lefty Neal Cotts, however, figures to be in demand and may even be of interest to his former club, the Rangers, Rosenthal writes. Cotts’s 4.30 ERA isn’t anything to write home about, but he’s held lefties to a .546 OPS. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/06/rosenthals-latest-desmond-toussaint-d-backs-samardzija-cotts.html http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/washington-nationals-ian-desmond-non-waiver-deadline-buyers-sellers-ken-rosenthal-notes-062415?vid=471003715773
  10. For Gomez. Agreed. I think they would be a great landing spot for Parra. Give me Mella for Parra and Im thrilled. Basically replaces the loss of Banda.
  11. The Brewers have had three in my lifetime. 1. They had a Willie Harris for a year. 2. They had Matt Stairs for a year. 3. Russel Branyan. Outside of that its been mostly Trent Durrington and Chris Magruder.
  12. Jonah Keri of Grantland suggests Lind could be a good fit for the Nationals. I have no Idea what their farm system looks like ... thoughts? http://grantland.com/the-triangle/mlb-the-30-as-nationals-rays-pirates-disabled-list/?utm_content=buffera1a31&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer The mention of Lind is about halfway down the article. Keri suggests the Nats could resell Lind this winter if necessary.
  13. This team is awful. Unfortunately the Phillies have been more awful and stand in the way of the #1 pick next year. Drat. Either way I cant wait to see some of these bums get released and traded.
  14. This is my thought. Use K-rod to dump some salary on someone. Likely Loshe or Garza. Melvin and Anthropolous have a history of getting deals done, so it wouldnt shock me if something happened here.
  15. How about Doug Davis? I thought he was a waiver pick up as well?
  16. Jungmann looks real good. Could be scary good if he starts hitting his spots a little better. Am I the only one who sees some vintage Jared Weaver in him?
  17. So basically the Brewers are trading an elite centerfielder and a closer who has been pretty good for a bunch of damaged goods? I think I'd actually want more for Gomez alone. If I'm doing a deal with Toronto, I probably go for the high upside guys in the lower minors and not the damaged goods in the upper minors.
  18. Agreed on Schafer and Kinztler. Waste of roster space. That said. The Wang thing just never made sense. The idea in 2014 was to compete, yet they were willing to blow a roster spot and roster flexibility on a dude that they are now willing to cut 6 months after they fully acquired his rights? The whole saga was just weird.
  19. On Wang. I'm guessing one of three things is going on: 1. Wang is nibbling in High A. The Brewers told him to pitch like a lefty who throws 93. Wang has refused. Melvin and Co. are done with him. OR 2. Wang is nibbling at High A. Melvin thinks he is slick, and is going to use this as an opportunity to slip him through waivers. OR 3. Melvin is anticipating a Ramirez trade and wants to stockpile junk 3b's at AAA to fill that black hole. The nice thing about rebuilding is that you can add the scrap heap guys to your roster in hopes of finding the next Doug Davis or Casey McGehee. I personally would have just cut the cord with Logan Schafer. But maybe Melvin foresee's trades of Gomez, Parra, and/or Braun and thinks he will need Schafer, Peterson, Matt Long etc. Or Stache is correct and Melvin is a senile old man.
  20. Some of the worst professional journalism I've seen in a while. That trade makes ZERO sense.
  21. The whole Wang experiment was a waste. Who knows if it cost the team games last year. Nice to see them dump Wang and bring in a guy who at one time was seen as something special, at a position of extreme need.
  22. Wow. Young catcher who has been demoted for one of the 3 or 4 best in the game Done Deal. Maybe we can then trade Scooter Gennett for Buster Posey. *Note: When I first read this I thought it was some kind of sarcastic blog about the Braves 2015 struggles. It looks like this guy actually gets paid to write about baseball.
  23. Every outing he's looking more and more like he's going the way of Jeff Suppan and Randy Wolf. Three years was one too many. And for the third time Melvin gets burned on being the only GM to give one of these old washups a three year deal. Great chance he's released in July or August if he keeps this up. Would much rather see what Cravy has.
  24. Today's Musing on a Brewers-Mets Trade. A random blogger here, http://www.bloggingmets.com/26934/how-ryan-braun-to-mets-could-work/ ... suggests a trade of Ryan Braun for Niese, Cuddyer, Montero, and Pawlecki. No thanks.
