I question if the Mets would even go that high. Stearn's is a big analytics guy. Analytics would probably say managers are more or less pretty interchangeable...don't waste money on it. That is a big reason manager salaries have tanked over the years. It sounds like Cohen really isn't that invested into who Stearn's picks to bring in, so it isn't like Cohen is waving a wad of cash trying to get Counsell at all costs.

The stadium district is paying for the new scoreboard. It’s actually been due for a new one since about 20/21. I see looking back they actually had a lengthy debate about whether or not they could charge the stadium district for a second one. Seems as though the answer was no. Probably going to see it fairly soon after these eventually all gets passed in some form.

It will be interesting to see what potential improvements (not just repairs will happen) may transpire. The way attendance has gone, when they do the seating replacement, will we see a more high end area behind home plate? When we replace the outfield door, is it possible for them to be clear…so it feels a tad less like an airplane hanger? Video board needs upgrading…will we finally see a second video along the lines in the terrace level so OF seating has something? Of course you have the ‘Beer District’ task force…but I doubt much comes of that.

In that case I hope they go undefeated. Not sure I would run to trade him for their 2nd, but their 1st rounder in ‘25? Yah…I’d take that easily. Almost surely Top 15 and maybe way higher. I get the logic of picks in the future are worth less…but we very well may not have a QB yet, so we may prefer a guy one year younger in tue long run.

He isn’t giving out team options past 2025, it makes no sense. Guy is going to bank on a decent to good 2025 and parlay it into a nice contract.

He isn’t resetting the market. He likely is going to get $6mil or $7mil max…which is the top of what guy are currently being paid. Since he is considered one of the best in the game…he is simply getting what he should. Resetting the market would be getting $10mil+…I think pigs will fly before that happen.

I mean…this would be an epically terrible contract for the Brewers. Is a team honestly going to give him a $25mil deal for 2025? If not, why are you doing this. After an injury riddled year and then missing the next year completely, I’m not sure he could get much more than like $10mil, but maybe a few teams get crazy offering him a bunch of money. Idk, but $25mil seems nuts.

The Panters top pick? Yah, I would be laughing all the way to the 2024 draft if they offered that up. I don't think it ends up the #1 pick...but it could and even worst case is probably Top 5. Even ignoring the injuries, Watson doesn't wow me that much. For 6'4" the dude plays like he is 5'10"...doesn't use his size to his advantage very often. Dude couldn't even muster an attempt at Love's jump ball to end the game. Speed is nice, but that is a limiting ceiling if he can't improve other parts of his game. He has plenty of time to improve, he is very young...but a potential Top 5 pick? I wouldn't even have to contemplate it.

Too bad NFL is too stuck up with former players or else he would probably do that to. The point is, he really hasn't had the opportunity since then. It also doesn't help that he has two aces and another pretty elite guy in Peralta now. Back then the rotation was kind of 'meh' and it was much more logical to pull them before the other team saw them 3 or even just 2 times through the order.

Corbin Burnes take on Counsell: “He hasn’t tipped his hand. I would find it difficult for him to leave and go somewhere else. Does he take a couple years off to spend time with his family? That is definitely a possibility. Wouldn’t count that out. “I think if talks keep going long enough there is that possibility that a team comes and offers some stupid number. But I think in the end he takes that number and if the Brewers can match it or at least get close, I think he goes back to Milwaukee.” “Just because that’s where he’s been, that’s what he knows…he’s a Brewer down to his core. If I was a GM or an owner, that’s the guy I want running the team. We’ll see. I think he’s in kinda the best spot you can be as a manager.” Burnes thinks Counsell might just be using this offseason as negotiating power...which is pretty plausible take. The only way for him to get a big raise (that he arguably deserves) is by threatening the possibility of leaving. Of course, I have a hard time seeing either side taking this all the way to his contract expiring if both mutually 100% wanted him back...so certainly the desire to leave or take a break must be a strong possibility too.

It would help if the Brewers didn’t suck so much and put Counsell in a situation to even decide to do something like that. I went back through the years…I could not find a semi-relevant spot he could have done something like that outside of 2018. 99% of the time our starter handed a losing game off to the bullpen or the closer blew it anyway. It happened a few times in the NLCS in 2018, though that year was weird and basically had three closers. Jeffress was kinda the main guy by postseason time though. Game 1 - Hader pitched three innings very early in the game Game 2 - Jeffress and Knebel pitched the 7th/8th. Game 3 - Knebel came in during the 6th inning versus waiting for the 7th to use him. Game 6 - Knebel and Jeffress both pitched mid game leading to Burnes taking the 8th/9th. Counsell was protecting his 5-2 lead at the time.

The O-Line has been just fine pass blocking. Whether that is because they throw extra TEs and a RB to chip blocks is fairly irrelevant to Love's inaccuracy. If he has time, which he has, then he should be making pretty decent throws. Now whether they get broken up because the coverage is nuts, is a different story. Statistically, they haven't had a lot of passes broken up though If we are talking about the offense's overall success/effectiveness then, yah, the O-Line isn't very good.

Last offseason, I thought they should have sold off (notably Burnes/Adames). This offseason, I think they should return all the major three. Maybe make an improvement if they are controllable. Why? Because 2/3 of those guys won't have much trade value/interest that is going to make trading them and punting on 2024 worth it. Woodruff is hurt and Adames is coming off a crummy year offensively. Burnes could be traded, but will it be worth potentially throwing away the 2024 season? If 2/3 are seemingly destined to return...just bring back the other guy and have a legitimate shot at a WS title. It seems like a very 2011 season situation where you might just bring back Fielder (Burnes) and take the draft comp. Unless the season implodes and you trade them all in July or so. If the return is big, knock yourself out and trade them...but I don't know that the returns will be that great.

That they basically had zero choice because of media pressure and probably the league wanting them to banish him? Probably even more accurate, the fact they knew the investigation (and his suspension) would drag out so long he would never suit up for them again anyway so why on earth would you keep him around?

Probably because it doesn't matter who you are throwing to if the ball is 5 feet away. Why would you run complex downfield plays when Love can't accurately throw 5 yards in front of himself? You can throw a lot of blame around on offense, but Love is easily the biggest issue so far. The only other player on the map would be AJ Dillon, but at least he takes care of the ball.

Yah, I noticed his yards per attempt was pretty high. Again, probably due to his running game sucking and long yardage to go is pretty common. Also probably due to defense's stacking the field to take away mid-range stuff from him because he certainly can't accurately throw it far. It would be nice to get Jones back healthy. Right now it feels like a lot of 'make Jordan Love beat us' and there are probably less than five QBs in the NFL that can beat a defense with that gameplan.

The line hasn't been stellar, but it isn't like it has been atrocious either. Their sack percentage is only 20th in the league. Love has been pressured on 21% of drop backs...which really isn't that terrible, good for 20th in the league. His 11 hits while passing is 10th lowest in the league. He has been blitzed the 3rd lowest amount in the NFL. It doesn't excuse pacing the NFL's worst completion percentage by 4%, being tied for second in INTs, second worst bad throw %, and 8th worst on-target throw percentage. The one thing actually going against him is the fact his running game doesn't exist, so they don't really have to invest much thought in stopping the run. That really isn't going to do Jordan Love many favors trying to find guys open. However, the fact he has terrible accuracy also is a solid reason they don't blitz him. Why do him any favors and potentially leave a guy open? He isn't going to thread the needle and actually hit his WRs on the numbers.

I think you are underestimating how quickly a SS ages…especially one providing most of their value based on defense. Javier Báez provided a 32 defense value per fangraphs, best at the position in 2019. He was at 12.5 in 2023. Heck, he had like a 7 in 2021 Lindor went from 21 to 11 since 2021 Correa 15 to 4 since 2021 He may only be 28, but a lot of guys lose that elite defense in their late 20s. Guys usually don’t put up those big time defensive number that long. His bay may not regress much by 32, but that really isn’t where Adames provides a ton of his value.

I don't think the field is at fault for Rodgers' achilles tear. I think it was due to carrying MLF on his back for years. I honestly think MLF is a Bottom 10 coach. His in-game coaching is pretty terrible and whatever his responsibility in the defense coordinator still being here is another fail. Though I think it has been inferred in the past that may be a decision above him. The only thing he does well is not have the entire locker room implode and hate him/each other.

Before the season he was comping himself to the top deals for SS...so yah, even if his inflated self worth has lost some air, I don't think he is accepting that. Not sure the Brewers would even do it.

Love has had years upon years to prepare for this moment behind one of the greatest QBs ever to play. Even if his situation is less than ideal, it is quite a bit better than most ‘rookie’ QBs typically have. I get you can’t replace actual in game playing completely, but jeez. He should be better than this. I, for one, wish the Packers would stop trying to win ever game at all costs. Because it ends up being Love throwing 5 yards and very little risk taking. We aren’t winning the Super Bowl this year. Find out what he can and can’t do. Not baby the offense all game long for him. -
