  1. Might as start well try him as a starter regardless of your opinion. He is a non tender either way. Whether he does good in the bullpen or stinks it up in the rotation. I doubt moving him to the pen is going to garner him a raise.
  2. Ahhh commemorating the last time you were relevant every so often so we remember how bad we are. Nice...just nice.
  3. Speaking of results did you watch either of his MLB starts or any of his ones at AAA? He flat out sucks as a starter and it isn't hard to understand why. It's not that hard to have a big inning or dial in on a guy soft tossing after seeing him a few times in a game. He will never be a starter at the MLB level. It's so obvious I don't understand how you don't see it yourself as you love statistics. If he is going to succeed it will be in the bullpen. More power to him to try. He did decent in that role in his short call up. Maybe he is the next guy to do good with sub par stuff.
  4. The "we need veterans" is a pretty lame excuse. There are some guys currently on the team that should be pretty experienced by then. I am sure one of the current rotation guys will stick(maybe 2). Bullpen will have some vets when we are competing. Villar should still be around and I am sure we will add some vets to fill the roster. There will be experienced guys on the team. Love having Braun around, but keeping him around doesn't make a ton of sense. Unless you just get awful offers he should be traded.
  5. "Take your chances on Braun having a big first half." What exactly is that doing? I don't think playing well is going to add any value to him. He is at peak value. He had a healthy 2015 and put up very good stats. Outside of unpredictable situational scenarios his value only goes down from here.
  6. That might be your own personal fix, but for 9.9/10 other people that isn't even an option. People want to experience their sports as it happens. People want to see the moment as it happens. The technology advanced World has only increased that. I always have friends texting me right after a play happens. If I'm not watching live spoiler alert. Also it makes it hard to go on the internet in any form as you might see the score or something related to it it. I understand this may not be an issue for you specifically, but for just about everyone else a DVR is a laughable idea. More power to you if that works for you, but that isn't the answer for MLB.
  7. If this is the case, then why would the Dodgers go after Braun this offseason if they can just go out and sign someone like Cespedes instead? This really makes me wonder if we might have to wait well into the winter before anything actually happens with Braun? Teams might want to see if they can fill their offensive needs through some of the limited F/A market before trading away their prospects for someone like Braun. That was a given. People were expecting this Dodgers trade to come to fruition right after the World Series. Sorry it doesn't work that way. Teams will scour the FA field before attempting a Braun trade.
  8. I am going to guess they will still cut someone before or after the Rule 5 draft. Right now they have 5 pretty sure bets to be added(Brinson, Hader, Cordell, Phillips, Willams) and six spots open. I would guess Stearns would want to go into the Rule 5 draft with two spots open, but maybe not. Even if he doesn't I can't imagine him not picking up a player so that would max out the 40-man roster. Stearns always talks about the importance to have at least one spot open at all times so that would then make it likely to drop someone after the Rule 5 draft.
  9. Sure they can be replacable....but by Morton? Nah, thanks for the offer. I still don't get what Charlie Morton is even providing us. There is little if any upside in him. Mind you when I say upside I am referring to his fature value, most notably trade value since thats all he would have a chance to provide us. So when I say upside I am not referring to just a stat line, but also age and price of contract. Davies- more upside/better currently Guerra- more upside/better currently Nelson- more upside/comparable Anderson- same upside/comparable Peralta- more upside/comparable Garza- same upside/comparable So who gets the boot for Morton?
  10. Works both ways. If Nelson doesn't catch a somewhat lucky TD (ball went right through defenders hands) and the Colts don't let their foot off the gas at the end, they could have won by 28. First one sure, the second example not so much. I am sure the Colts just decided to stop playing as hard. Point is sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don't. I think people expect too much. I guess thats what you get after winning a Super Bowl and going 15-1. Not saying who they have in place is perfect, but to think you are going to make a bunch of non player changes and expect better results is probably wishful thinking.
  11. If you feel a need to have a veteran reclamation project on the roster to build up their value, then consider Garza as exactly that. And he is even cheaper, because as a sunk cost, he is free. My thoughts exactly.
  12. Which is 100% true. That just isn't in Aaron Rodger's personality. You aren't going to see Rodgers run through the locker room pumping guys up. I am not exactly sure who those guys are in the Packers locker room or on their bench, but obviously the energy isn't there and that is why Rodgers believes it might not be there. No need to shoot the messenger. I am sure a lot of players would say the same thing, but they don't because everyone want to hear Rodgers and have him up at the podium. He is taking credit for what he is doing wrong. He admitted he flat out missed Nelson at one point. I believe him when he says they are doing things right in practice and it just isn't being executed. People want to complain about the deep ball, but if Nelson could see the one he may have gone the distance, if Janis doesn't whiff on his catch they have a big play, and there are many times we could easily have a big pass if the opposing defensive backs didn't hold/PI. If they don't give up an opening kick off return and just one of those big passes connect we are celebrating right now. Something has to change, but I am not so convinced it includes tearing down the coaching staff. Maybe it does, but at this point it is too early to tell in my opinion.
  13. That just simply isn't true. He called out the entire team. What do you expect?
  14. Due to daylight savings time the times on this forum are actually accurate for me now and not one hour off.
  15. Yah shame on him for not covering his receiver all game. Not sure what there is to complain about. He called a great play at the end that should have been a sack followed by a punt to get the ball back with a chance to win. Too bad our defender whiffed. I thought he did a good job. Don't be mad at him be mad at the players.
  16. It's the lack of a running game and Rodgers just not seeing the field. I was at the game. Their receivers are blanketed as the DBs have no threat of it being a run and even on the rare chance it is, they know the front will handle it. As for Rodgers he just doesn't see the open guy. There were numerous times guys were open he he forces it to Adams or Jordy Receivers weren't getting seperation when the running game was at full force. This has been a problem the entire year and it isn't because he is missing the open receivers(which happens from time to time). Rodgers will run around the field for 10 seconds and in man coverage not a single player will figure out how to get open. The receivers are flat out horrible in man coverage. Didn't help the offensive line left a lot to be desired today. Also maybe it is just me, but does anyone else find it strange they aren't trying to do a lot of no-huddle offense lately? I feel like they should try keeping the defense on their toes and not letting them set up their defensive schemes constantly.
  17. Sad sad team to watch. The wide receivers still don't know how to get any seperation and it absolutely kills the offense. I just don't get why no one can seem to get open. Between that and all the injuries it seems this team just doesn't have it. Hopefully they can get healthy and scrape together enough wins to make the playoffs, but that is two defeating losses in a row. I won't lose all hope. If not for starting the game off 7-0 things could have been a lot different. If they can figure out how to get receivers open they will win games. Unfortunately so far that just hasn't happened very consistently.
  18. As I have said multiple times I don't think this thread is about how we have to go sign one in FA. We all know we could build an elite rotation without signing a single free agent. We all know there are many way to get an ace without signing one in FA. The question was more when all those options fail is there a possibility.
  19. Anthony Rizzo was a Top 50 prospect while Andrew Cashner was only once in his entire career ranked a Top 100 prospect. He barely squeezed in Pre-2010 at #95 with BA. Then again this makes sense to you because you think Brinson is around #75 while everyone else on the planet agrees he is in the Top 20. So I guess the only person who is going to agree with you on trading Brinson for a #75 area 3B prospect is you. Everyone else is going to think, "Wow that sounds a whole lot like when the Padres downgraded to fill a position of need and it backfired on them massively."
  20. There are always exceptions to the rule. But suggesting a guy is the exception to the rule (before he actually is the exception to the rule) is usually a really bad way determine a guy's future value. I see your point, but Suter's performance so far indicates to me that as a reliever, he could be a left-handed Doug Jones as a floor. I don't think the numbers lie. Do I even want to know what you think is his ceiling?
  21. How much velocity did Doug Jones have? I recall he had a rather dominant run as a closer, despite being a "soft tosser." 303 career saves over 16 years, including a very good run from 1988 through 1997 bear out that soft tosser doesn't rule someone out as a closer. I mean that was kinda 20-30 years ago... You have proven my point that he isn't closer or late inning material. You provided one name that had his glory days decades ago. I mean feel free to start pulling together a good handful of current/recent guys and we may have something.
  22. What added up were lots of extensions. Even then we still had money in the budget for decent FA signings(money wise Ramirez/Garza). So there will be money to fill a position or two or more through FA. How much depends on what will can fill in house.
  23. Well I mean Charlie Morton made a major mechanical change and got better so why can't any of our guys have that hope? This seems like the classic I am tired of watching what we currently have and just want to change it up. Even if it doesn't really improve anything. If we had a bad/young rotation and just wanted a veteran to fill a spot I could see this. Unfortunately we are loaded with experienced pitchers that are comparable or better than Morton. I'd give him a non-garaunteed deal to come to spring training and hope the injury bug hits us bad. Other than that without 1-2 starters being traded there is no need for Morton here.
  24. Oh Phillips why can't you bat more like Diaz.
  25. All of those guys have higher potential value than Morton...though Garza may be about even as both have done nothing the last two seasons. Who in that rotation are you kicking out in favor of Morton? We are talking about the same Morton who barely played last year and was horrible in 2015, right? Maybe if we trade a starter not named Garza he could make our rotation, but even then what is Morton providing that I can't hope Garza does? Both could probably give you a sub 4.00 ERA if you get lucky, but both are coming off a poor two year stretch while they are over 30.
