  1. Well I mean if we were trying to compete they probably would try to bring Carter back.
  2. Domingo Santana's fielding is definitely below average. Poor jumps, iffy routes, fielding of grounders is sketchy, lazy at times, not that fast, and not very accurate with his arm. His arm is strong, but it doesn't come into play often and even when it does his throws are typically off. I thought when we got him he was considered this solid defender with a highlight reel arm, but he has been the total opposite. In my opinion he is below average, but not so bad he is a liability.
  3. I love Carter as much as the next guy, but at a nice cheap price like we signed him for last offseason.
  4. I think they will prefer someone more durable and younger.
  5. Well the Packers slim playoff hopes get a little boost tonight. Not sure how much to give the defense credit going against a pretty dismal Eagles offense. Still holding a team to 13 points is something. They didn't play very well, but got the stops and thats all that is important. The offense however looked really really good tonight. Looking ahead Texans is a favorable match up at home with their dismal offense, then a game vs. the Seahawks could be favorable at home the way their offense looks like at times, and after that they play the Bears. I wouldn't bet on it, but there is a path if Rodgers plays like he did tonight and the defense can hold it together.
  6. Then trade him, don't give him away. Very bad decision by Stearns. How do you know someone would even trade for him? $8mil likely no one...don't forget they probably went around the league to gauge interest before non tendering him. This was a no brainer to me. They can easily just resign him for less if they want.
  7. What an absolute idiot on that punt. Its embarassing that was even close to being a touchback.
  8. Horrid defensive backs along with an average pass rush make that defense pretty brutal. The pass rush wouldn't be a major sticking point if the defensive backs could at least pretend to cover recievers for just a moment. They have no time to shed blocks most of the time. Yep. And it all starts with coaching. I'm hoping they win tonight, but Philly has a good offense. Next week, if they can't beat the Texans, Capers needs to go as soon as the game is over. Well I guess it depends how the defense does. I do agree you can only blame the injuries so much. Yes the injuries are why this team isn't going to the playoffs, but giving up 30+ point for a third of a season straight? Yah I don't know that is pretty brutal. Something that hasn't got a ton of attention in the recent struggle is the offensive line. Like everywhere else on the team injuries have taken their toll and they have not helped the cause very much. With all the hate for the coaching beautiful gameplan and execution on the first drive right there.
  9. Horrid defensive backs along with an average pass rush make that defense pretty brutal. The pass rush wouldn't be a major sticking point if the defensive backs could at least pretend to cover recievers for just a moment. They have no time to shed blocks most of the time.
  10. Zero effect. The Dodgers knew about this in August(probably even longer prior) and had the financials set in a Braun deal, but the prospects just didn't add up for the Brewers. Adding on to that they had a lot of money come off the books this offseason and they have a good $45mil in another couple expensive players coming off the books next year(like Eithier). They are perfectly fine financially and this entire Dodgers thing is getting a lot more headlines than it should. Payroll will remain very high as they need to field a competitive team What you mentioned doing is what they were attempting to do in August.
  11. Just an observation from the outside, but when you are a senior who has averaged 10+ points over the last two years you have absolutely no business going 1-13 with 1 assist in 28minutes. For a team that will depend on experience and consistency from those guys that was a pretty bad showing for Koenig.
  12. Also notable that his MLB numbers are pretty bad out of 40 innings one year with the Cubs in 2013. Since then, in limited action, he has been pretty bad. He is an extreme fly ball pitcher who gives up a lot of walks. Though he does strike out a lot of batters and if he is limitting walks he ends up pretty productive. Probably just organization depth for the bullpen with some low upside he pitches well and can be flipped for minimal return.
  13. On another note I wonder what it would take to bring back Lacy next year? Obviously I would want to bring in another running back capable of starting duties, but Lacy is still a really good back. Injuries are obviously a concern, but if he comes cheap enough he could give us good value.
  14. Sam Shields was done for the year anyway...possibly forever. Eddie Lacy was a long shot to make it back by the end of the year. Lets be honest the Packers need whatever help they can get now. I am sure the Packers would love to get Lacy back, but he is a long ways off.
  15. I don't see them cutting Cobb. Half of his approx. 13mil cap hit is dead cap so you would only be saving $6mil or so by cutting him. Clay Matthews on the other hand has a $15mil cap hit and only $4mil is dead cap so we would save over $10mil by dumping him. I honestly don't get the love for Clay Matthews anymore. He is increasingly becoming less and less of a pass rusher and I personally thought he was pretty average as an ILB. Sure maybe keep him around if he takes a pay cut, but at his full price for next year it seems like a no brainer to cut ties.
  16. Two bad years at the MLB level and a brutal year at AAA? No thanks.
  17. Not sure it would be a lot more. Sure there is an extra spot, but most teams would probably take an extra bullpen arm or bench bat. There might be a notable increase in the amount taken, but the amount that actually make it halfway through the season will likely be pretty similar. Might take one now, but just drop them in spring training when you realize you don't want the wasted 26 man spot. Much like what happens now. Also got to remember you still have to use a 40 man roster spot on said draftee.
  18. Via Baseball America: In 1988, the Braves drafted a player from themselves. They neglected to protect righthander Ben Rivera on the 40-man roster, had the first pick in the draft and took him. So is he stuck on your 25 man roster then and follow all other Rule 5 guidelines? That would be embarrassing.
  19. False - Rizzo was #75 pre-2012 on BP and BA but was unranked on MLB.com pre-2012 (the trade was made in January of 2012). (Funny how what #75 ranking comes into play.) Cashner was in the majors two years after he was drafted. I hope Brinson is the top-20 prospect that everyone on the planet except me thinks he is. However, if the Brewers shouldn't trade him because he is a 5-tool talent and the best CF prospect in the system... then why did the Rangers trade him? Not False. He was #47 on BAs pre-2012 list, #41 by Fangraphs, and #37 on MLB.com list. Proof: http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/prospects/rankings/top-100-prospects/2012/2612998.html http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/top-100-prospects-for-2012/ http://www.bleachernation.com/2012/01/26/the-chicago-cubs-have-three-of-the-2012-pre-season-top-100-prospects/ That means just about nothing. Because they were competing had a good team, and had a shot to win their first World Series in franchise history? The same reason we traded a boatload of talent for Sabathia/Greinke/Marcum. Just because you trade something away doesn't mean you don't think they won't turn out. A lot of GMs will admit they think a player is going to be a star, but needed the win now talent. The Brewers shouldn't trade him for a lesser prospect like you want to. If they can find a a 3B prospect ranked near the top, sure, go for it.
  20. Keep Matthews over Cobb? No thanks. Good luck getting Jordy Nelson to take a salary cut and no way they are releasing him. He still looks primed for a 1,000 yard season coming off injury and amounts for 1/3 of the Packers TD passes(leads NFL). He is still putting up #1 receiver stats. I don't see the Packers cutting into Rodger's weapon arsenal.
  21. So if Sam Shields and Clay Matthews both go bye bye that is a good $20mil in cap space more than we had this year and neither of them provided anything this season. There is your silver lining.
  22. I will say, as Edgar Bennett has moved up in the ranks, the offense has become less and less potent. Right? Honestly I don't understand how he has survived this long as OC.
  23. Things I personally would like to see in the offseason: 1) Sign a solid runningback, but doesn't need to be anything special. Just a guy who can be dependable. Id also like to see a runningback drafted in the earlier rounds. All signs point to moving on from Lacy though I wouldn't oppose bringing him back if he is cheap enough. 2) *deep breath* At this point I would not bring back Matthews next year. He hasn't been worth the money for two years now and has honestly been pretty bad all year when on the field. Unless things change drastically closing out the season cut ties and save the money. 3) Carry three runningbacks...not sure this has to even be explained. Going with this don't carry so many WRs. 4) With the saved money from Matthews(plus more from elsewhere possible) sign a big time defensive playmaker in the secondary. We get burned badly even when healthy and good QBs always do well against us. I'd prefer to get a CB vs. a S because.. 5) Top pick draft a safety. I feel it is easier to start a roockie safety and get results vs. a rookie CB. For that reason I would like to see a safety with our top pick if the opportunity presents itself. I'd really like to see the secondary shored up. Linebakers is also another potential option as is the offensive line. All depending on what is there when we pick. 6) I lean toward firing Dom Capers. It isn't that I think he sicks, but because I just don't think the personel we have fits what he wants to run. It is probably time to move on. 7) Fire the offensive coordinator. Honestly someone has to be a scapegoat for the offense and there is no other option. I don't think it is McCarthy's playcalling. Ironically the offense has tanked the last two years and the last two years have been the two and only two Bennett has been offensive coordinator. Sorry that doesn't look good. 8)On the fence about Ted Thompson. Mostly because I don't know enough(none of us do) about the potential replacements and what they would do. Bottom line they need to dip into FA badly in the offseason on the defensive side, find a new RB if Lacy isn't the answer, probably fire some coaches, maybe Thompson, and draft impact defensive players.
  24. He literally started 32/32 games in 2014/2015. Jeez...
  25. Junior Guerra isn't a sub 3.00 pitcher. He isn't even close. All 30 teams know that...even Stearns. If he tries to value him like one he is overplaying his hand. He is closer and more likely to be a 4.00 pitcher. Guerra is attractive in this market, but more realistically you can hope for a 3.75 ERA type pitcher. With good risk he could regress of that or spend lots of time on the DL.
