  1. I mean they gave up Gleyber Torres for two months of Aroldis Chapman so it wouldn't be out of the realm of possibilities. However it don't think they would trade such a highly touted prospect within the division.
  2. Domingo Santana might want to get healthy and start playing or it's him who won't have a job when Brinson rolls into town. Assuming Braun is still around.
  3. Please name the 11 or more in-house options. 10 is obviously an exaggeration, but all 6 of the current starters right off the bat. Yes, including Garza. I would put Hader on the depth chart before him and heck probably Wang too. So hypothetically Morton would be #7 on the depth chart at best and at worst #9 if you don't want to block younger players. Where is the upside here? Is it honestly better than the upside of the 6 guys we have now(value wise)? Is it worth blocking a rotation spot Hader will need at some point next year?
  4. I missed what exactly the point of picking up Charlie Morton is. What does he provide value wise that the 10+ in house options can't?
  5. Its not like anything new would be said. There was coverage and the video is online. It was more humorous than actual baseball news.
  6. Monte Harrison was straight out of high school...Lewis Brinson is a 22 year old with AAA experience. Lewis Brinson has also shown that potential in various stretches. Big difference. You mean he won't be a .382 hitter with an OPS+ over 1.000? Would never have guessed. The half way between those stats is still great so I will take it. The beautiful thing about prospects is everyone can have their own opinion. You may be alone on that, but that is your right.
  7. [sarcasm]Blue text?[/sarcasm] This is no different than any generic apology. Actually he might have gotten this straight off the Internet.
  8. ---------------------------------ALRIGHT BACK TO KEON BROXTON-----------------------------
  9. I don't think anyone is trying to say we need to go sign an ace in FA. The question was more: If we don't develop one and the time comes to compete would it be feasible to go and sign one? The real question is how much does the dead weight on the end of the contract matter for a small market? Realistically as a small market we are not going to be contending every year for half a decade plus. It is just a hard thing to do. So would it really have been devastating if we signed a pitcher to a massive contract before 2008 and got 4 good years and 3 bad years, does it matter? How bad would it hurt us if we were paying someone $25mil to do nothing this year? What would the sacrifice be? No Gallardo/Weeks extensions? Sounds like a good trade-off.(**And please understand that was a very generic example. Very generic so it might not make total sense, but you get the point of it.**) It is impossible to know if we can or can't do this in the future. There are so many variables and all of those are a total mystery at this point. If we keep the farm system stocked and aren't afraid to trade or let go of a player when the 6 years of cheap control are gone in favor of a young gun it is more than possible. However if we have 5 major holes to fill via FA or sign a bunch of extensions the payroll won't be there.
  10. Except the goal is to have an ace. I hope we can produce our own Chatwood/Parker. If we can't there will be no need for an ace.
  11. Sale would cost about half of what we consider our future. It doesn't make sense. We need this strong current farm system to put us back on the map. After that it won't look so loaded. You would then need to wait for it to rebuild itself again which would take you till 2020 or beyond to do because you won't be refilling it the easy way like what we did for this farm system(trading talented players).
  12. That would be a reason we need an ace. They rode Kluber. If not for him the World Series would have been short and sweet. Also teams with good pitching didn't get past the Cubs because the Cubs still had by far the best pitching. You need good pitching and you almost by default need an ace. You can do it without one...but good luck. Going to be a lot of dissapointment in your future.
  13. I would care a little more if it was during the season. Honestly I probably don't want to know what half the team does during the off-season. Probably a lot of stuff much much worse than this.
  14. Well doesn't seem like a huge deal. Pretty minor all things considered...though incredibly stupid.
  15. It would take a perfect situation to go and sign a true ace(or one just a step down). We would need to hit on a lot of our young talent and have them start producing at the same time. Giving us a very cheap team for multiple years. The other problem is the fact we better be really sure we are going to compete from the get go. If we sign Arrieta and don't compete till 2020...big trouble. It's only worth it if we can stick that guy in the rotation and hit the ground running(think Lester signing for the Cubs). It's pretty hard to give an opinion years in advance without all the specifics. Like I can tell you it makes no sense this offseason, but past that who knows. I'd like to see the situation present itself, but it may not. For us if we have too many other holes it probably won't be feasible. The other thing to think about is the fact the Brewers new TV deal is slowly approaching. I believe it is set to hit in 2020 so that could play a massive role in this kind of signing. We won't get Dodgers money, but we will get a large bump up from what we are currently getting. Cheap payroll until 2020 or beyond with a new TV deal kicking in after that I would put my money on a $20mil+ signing whether Braun still exists here or not.
  16. Charlie Morton is a solid "I have no better options and no money to spend" kind of guy. His upside is pretty low for the Brewers. You are basically getting him as a flip candidate. Best case is what....3.75 type pitcher? That from a guy who missed all of last year, is old, and little extended track record. Even if he pitches well his value probably isn't all that high. I'm also not as high on next years infield defense like you are. Arica is good, but the rest? Surely not good enough I want to bring in ground ball pitchers solely for that reason alone.
  17. Brent Suter isn't late inning material. Lots of hits, little strikeouts, and a soft tosser. Never going to be a closer or even a 7th/8th inning guy. Best case is a guy who has a nice season every once in awhile as a low leverage role. He will never dominate hitters to be trusted with higher leverage chances.
  18. Its not even a question he is declining his portion of that option.
  19. *inhales*....NO.
  20. I've felt that making the strike zone wider would be great for baseball. You know what is worse than long games? Low scoring games. Casual fans want to see runs being scored and a bigger strike zone will do the exact opposite. I also think it would be pretty hard to widen it. The edge of the plate makes a very distinct line between ball/strike. If it is wider than that you are going by an invisible line. Probably wouldn't be consistently called(less than currently).
  21. Briggs has a right to be upset, though he brings a poor argument a lot of times(RBIs). The trade at the present is probably a bad one. However I don't think even if Nottingham flops it is a big enough deal to endlessly bring it up every time there is a chance. If we held onto him another year we could have probably gotten notably more and no we didn't have to open a spot up in the OF. I wanted to open up the spot, though one could argue delaying that for a year. I'd would probably critique his decision to take Nottingham vs. a different trade. However that's something none of us have any knowledge in. Stearns is going to make mistakes and this might end up being one of them. Even Epstein makes mistakes(Heyward) and won a World Series. So breath we can do this.
  22. I know someone who has been posting non stop and I am sure there are the hugest fan you can find. You know how? Because one day she asked me who may favorite team was and if it was the Wisconsin team, the Wisconsin Badgers. Yup, can't make that up. Real baseball fan right there.
  23. Except the Brewers didn't want Estrada. He had a horrible year, was pricey, and probably going to be non rendered if no trade came up as we didn't have a starting spot. Also I don't get why every time we trade a player and they do good many just assume if we kept them they would have done just as good. Probably not how it would have worked out.
  24. But those numbers are growing.... And if they grow enough skipping channels on your DVR will suddenly not work with your remote. The only reason it isn't done now is because the cost of angering people by blocking the ability to fast forward is greater than the cost of lost revenue due to people skipping those channels. You are either going to pay through commercials or your going to open up your wallet. They are getting their money regardless.
  25. Not really bitter. On the bright side at least the curse can die and we won't hear Joe Buck mention it a million times ever again. They were going to win eventually and likely have more on the way.
