  1. What you are thinking of as luxury and what they actually mean by luxury are probably two entirely different visions. I am guessing they are talking it up as more than it really is regarding "luxury". That being said I imagine a lot of players and people that work for the team in different degrees are going to flock to the new residential building pretty quickly. You are also talking stellar views of the stadium and on the other side views of the arch/river. Obviously it is hard t judge it without knowing the plans, but there is a good chance it becomes the best residential building in downtown St Louis. Whether or not they will find the people to fill it is a good question, but I bet there is someone way smarter than me that already figured out the answer is yes.
  2. The issue with trying to build anything around Miller Park is simple. Miller Park is in an unattractive spot(for businesses). Build something and guess what you have? You have a mall/entertainment building in an unattractive spot. Build a strip mall/shopping? That is great, but why I am picking to go there? Why not go to one of the nice suburbs and do my shopping at a similar style place with food/more lodging options close by? It just doesn't make sense. Any business will go to a better location. Miller Park is a poor location. It's a poor idea for the Brewers. They would have to pour hundreds of millions into the area to make it worthwhile. All while eating up a massive chunk of their parking lots. If anything I could see a hotel being built within walking distance...that would be really nice. Make it have some type of view of Miller Park. Problem is baseball season goes and tumble weeds are skipping across the parking lots.
  3. Brett Phillips swing is very loud/frantic in general. I don't mind the hands too much, but I really really REALLY hate his leg kick. It takes too long for him to actually load the bat and get it into the zone. He has serious air time with his leg up in the air. He needs a more toned down approach or the low average and strikeouts are going to continue. Not sure when it started, but the high leg kick seems to be something new. If you watch the video below frame by frame it is very easy to see last year he kept his foot/heel closer to the ground. Not sure the reason for the change as his swing looks a lot better before. It just looks more fluid, keeps the bat back, and gets it into the zone more. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQXu20Faf0M I don't know maybe it is just me, but not a fan of the leg kick.
  4. Oh Rangers...wow that trade looked dumb at the time and it was indeed dumb in the end. Somehow ended up being worse than I envisioned.
  5. What are you doing Chisenhall...wow. This is where defense wins championships...or I guess loses them.
  6. I'm pretty sure Uecker used to regularly do the World Series so I don't really the issue there. It's not like he's doing it for the Cubs he's doing it for national television.. The real point I was trying to make was that he's work for the Brewers for a very long time, the Cubs all of a sudden make the World Series, and our own Bob Uecker calls it for them. Maybe I should have spelled that out a little more but I thought my point was a given. Wouldn't that be awesome though if he called the games and the Cubs eventually lose the series?
  7. Keep in mind injuries have limited Harrison to 450ish ABs in Wisconsin. Gatewood on the other hand has 650is ABs. Another thing to consider is the fact they have only had on full season at Wisconsin and the first appearance there they were awfully over matched and I am not sure it did them any good. I could see them both returning to Wisconsin with Harrison almost a sure bet to return and Gatewood possibly a 50/50 call. I just can't envision them pushing Harrison to A+ to start the season.
  8. So you want 2x or more than what Lucroy got, but with someone with half the value if that? That might be hard to pull off. On another note why should the Dodgers regret not getting Braun exactly? In all of the Dodgers NLCS losses they lost by 4+ runs. You honestly think Braun was going to create 4 extra runs over what they got out of their LFer in any of those games? Yah I doubt it too. Well...you cant just say having Braun would have scored 4+ more runs a game, but everything would have been different. Who knows, maybe they don't even make the playoffs after trading for Braun. Maybe the left fielder doesn't drop a routine fly ball in the first inning if it is Braun out there. There are a lot of circumstances that could/would have been different, but I am sure you understand that. Sure, but to say they are regretting it even in the slightest is probably wrong. The got beat pretty bad in all of their losses in the NLCS. One player isn't going to fix that. If they barely lost some games by a run I can see where one might be like, "Wow I wish we had another middle order of the bat." They are probably wishing their pitching didn't suck so bad outside of two games. Giving up 8 runs twice and 10 runs once is the real problem they had.

  10. People want to be in the Lambeau area...businesses want to be there. No one wants to be anywhere near Miller Park when there isnt a baseball game. It would probably take billions and better public transit to make the area worthwhile when baseball games aren't going on.
  11. You think he cares? You think he vetoed because he thought the Rangers were a better chance to win the World Series? No that isn't why he vetoed. You speak in factual opinion often, do you have inside information on every player and how they feel? Just curious... Im not going to sit here and argue about what you seem to think are "factual opinions". Luckily in this case it isn't an opinion at all. It is a fact winning was not the motivator when he vetoed the Indians trade. Lucroy confirmed that...he had a lot of concern about playing time and where that playing time would be. There was concern he would play a lot of first base so Lucroy refused to go to the Indians.

  13. If my team hadn't been to the World Series in 71 years and hasn't won for 100+ I would pay that easy.
  14. For all those hating on Tebow's decision to play baseball: http://www.breitbart.com/video/2016/10/25/watch-tim-tebow-takes-espns-stephen-a-smith-to-task-over-decision-to-play-baseball/
  15. Yes with other stuff to do around it etc. Miller Park is in the middle of nowhere. It is just the reality.
  16. That's the tradeoff to having Miller Park surrounded by parking lots instead of downtown. Not saying one is superior to the other, just that a Cardinal-style development only makes sense in a dense urban setting. Sorry but I don't buy this as an excuse. There are ways to buy up and build around Miller Park that would make it much more of an experience to go to ball games and STILL keeping the tradition tailgating alive. This just falls under being a perennial loser and living in a small market in baseball. Exciting news for Cardinals fans and I guess baseball fans altogether though. Looks to be similar to what the Packers are doing around Lambeau. The Brewers aren't going to spend $220m+ on the area surrounding Miller Park because it would be a bad investment. The area around Miller Park is parking lots and nothing of interest near by. It just isn't feasible. Fans have to drive to Miller Park. You can't just walk there. It's not convenient and you won't see it as a place to stop year round. It has all to do with not being in a downtown setting with lots around it. No one wants to live in a fancy residential building way outside downtown so why would we build one like the Cardinals are doing?
  17. I mean he can be traded, yeah. I am sure teams would line up to hear what it would take. The big problem is the length of that contract. He has already turned 33 and is exiting his prime as we speak(though he didn't show that in the second half). To take on that much money at that age is a giant gamble. Defensive metrics also didn't like him last year which could be quite a concern if that eats into his offensive value. On the bright side there is, hopefully, still some elite years left in him. I also believe there is a better chance he can stay relevant even through a decline as he makes good contact and holds a very strong OBP. So even if the power slips he should still sustain a .800 OPS. Not great but if that is what you get at the tail end hard to complain. He is similar to Ryan Braun. Eat some money and you can probably get a pretty good return.
  18. Game 7...bases loaded...down by 3...Cubs up...3-2 count...Baez hits it deep down the line for what is thought to be a grand slam inside the poll. However after replay it is shown to be just foul and Baez strikes out the next pitch. A thought to be a World Series winning play reversed in Game 5 would be horrid too. Oh replay the potential you give us.
  19. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the current proposal says after 2 years the requirement will go up to 18 years old. So that is a plus.
  20. Getting swept 4 games to 0. More detailed a couple choke jobs to make it worse.
  21. Lucas Erceg is destined for Carolina. I'd be quite shocked if he isn't sent there right at the start of the season.
  22. Bad decision. Why? Because even with the worst possible throw in that situation the runner was still out. It's a little less worse because there were two outs at least, but the chances of being safe there were heavily not in the Dodgers favor.
  23. Easy answer, no. Erceg doesn't play SS and even if he did he wouldn't have defense near Tulo's. Tulo also puts together 4+ WAR offense when healthy. He has been one of the best SSs of the last decade to compare that to Erceg isn't really fair. That being said Erceg does have the ceiling of an All Star bat with solid defense if all goes right. I will live with that when he wasn't even a first round pick.
  24. I have heard the opposite and I have also heard the Rangers weren't going to trade us Gallo for Lucroy anyway. Regardless at the end of the day we aren't getting Gallo for Guerra. Not even remotely close to being a fair trade.
  25. Can anyone imagine how the game would be with a robot pitch caller? What do we do? All stare up at the scoreboard waiting for the call? Pitcher whips around to see the call? Weird I tell you weird. Honestly such a change would make the game more boring and hurt ratings.
