  1. Exactly. I hate when people say that pro athletes are overpaid. If you were one of the less than .1% of the population that could do a job for a company that makes hundreds of millions of dollars a year directly because of what you do, you would want to be paid accordingly. Not sure what percentage it is but at one point MLB salaries were only half of the cost of running a franchise. I think it was some point early in the 2000's. There are a lot of employees beyond just the MLB players connected to a franchise. That time would still be now. The Brewers have slightly more than $200mil in yearly revenue and their payroll in a big year is about $100mil. So it is still 50% or below for most every team.
  2. I thought that too, but something tells me it has more to do with playing a non true CFer out there or his horrid defense he has so far shown in the fall league. EDIT: Also saw Brewers have interest in Jeff Francoeur too which is head scratching in itself. That would leave us with two OFers who can't play CF on the bench plus this mystery guy to play CF. No way all those players fit on the team.
  3. Rumor has it that Stearns wants to get a CF by trade/FA for the short term. I find it a bit interesting because that leaves Domingo Santana without a spot. Yes I understand he isn't a true CF, but he was competent out there and I thought they would give him the chance at getting full playing time. Did they mention a plan for Santana that I missed? Or is it possibly his defensive play in the fall league? Heard he was racking up errors out in RF.
  4. [sarcasm]Great another player we can burn prospects on just so they can hit free agency when we are competent again! He will fit right in with Puig and Fernandez.[/sarcasm] Though it makes even less sense when you label him as a short term CF...though we will let that pass because he isn't. Still not controllable long enough to make sense for the Brewers.
  5. Right but that is something he could do at the time of the trade. Does doing it now speed up the process for some reason where it could hamper something down the line? I am just curious if there is actually a reason to DFA them early or if it is just helping him to visualize the roster.
  6. Tom Haudricourt confirms that Stearns does have a reason for all the open spots and working on multiple things. Stearns is such a tease. Always talking about all the things he is doing etc.
  7. He is a 2 pitcher pitcher and the drop in velocity from starting would take his dominant fastball down a notch. I would also be concerned with his control.
  8. Hamilton or Moreland? HECK, NO! I'd rather have Prince back instead. Never said Moreland and said Hamilton could be an easy dump candidate which we have seen before in MLB trades.
  9. Many twitter sources(Ken Rosenthal etc.) say rival execs believe Jonathan Lucroy is MLBs top bounceback candidate. So sounds like his value is still very high and in my opinion the time to trade him if true. Why even risk anything happening?
  10. I have been intrigued because he was talking about opening up spots even when it was down to 37-38. What exactly do you need so many spots open for? He really likes having spots open for whatever reason. Must know he is taking a Rule 5 guy and heck maybe even a second.
  11. What if we traded them Khris Davis/Jonathan Lucroy for massive prospect load and here is the kicker...we take Josh Hamilton. He is only owed $4mil and we can either hope for a bounce back or just drop him. Think of it like the Gomez trade and they won't give us Gallo unless we throw in Khris Davis, but then that increases the secondary pieces too. Hamilton is just a nice gesture by us and opens up a spot in LF for Khris Davis. Big thing here is the Rangers recoup some of the lost power. EDIT: Also saw they might trade Moreland. Possibly a Lucroy/Lind combo possibility? Though they might just be opening up a spot for Gallo.
  12. That's pretty greedy since this so called rumored package the Brewers are requesting is much less than that. If you get Gallo you won't get much else.
  13. Overpaid? Average MLB team revenue is approx. $300mil...most teams payroll is under half of that. If anything these players are underpaid. The players are worth every penny because they are being offered it and the teams are still profitable(by massive margins) after handing out the contracts. Sorry but they aren't overpaid.
  14. No thank you on Gallo. I would much rather have one of their other top prospects. Yes his power is ridiculous, but he strikes out way too much for my tastes. Even with vasts improvements what is he? A guy who strikes out only 33% of the time? I mean gosh the power we would have in our line up would be crazy and that short porch at Miller Park....wow. Still the strikeouts scare me. He is so overrated he would sap the rest of the talent we get outside of him in a deal. I would rather have a few high ceiling guys instead of putting all my eggs in Gallo's mega ceiling basket. I wouldn't normally freak out over the K numbers, but he has continued to strike out 33%-50% all the way through the minors. First thing I would do if I got him was send him straight to the minors because the Rangers rushed him. He does take walks so that is good...though who knows how much of that is just because of pitching around him.
  15. My only one issue with that graph is the fact I don't really care about the average players extending their prime, it is all those older elite players. There are some interesting cases like: Barry Bonds: Won 4 straight MVP awards in his late 30s...come on we all know his stats wouldn't even be close to this without some good stuff going into his body. Guy should have been declining and wasn't. Roger Clemens: A Cy Young award and a sub 2 era season after turning 40...alrighty then. Lets also not forget two players doing very well despite ridiculous age in today's game(Ortiz/Colon) have both been well connected to PEDs in the past. Now I will admit there are many connected to steroids that did decline and didn't dominate past the ripe old age of 40. However, does that mean we should ignore the ones that did? Isn't possible for those players the steroids did extend their careers? I think it is more than possible. I have yet to watch a player not connected to steroids dominate at nearly 40 or past it.
  16. I mean I guess when all the stuff 50% off is still incredibly overpriced the potential is probably pretty limited.
  17. This is such a huge risk to take when dealing a player like Lucroy. Maybe so but what trade isn't? You are taking a huge risk no matter what you do. Brinson looks like a very solid center fielder at worst with the potential to be even better. He has 20/20 potential which hardly exists anymore. Then you have Matuella who has massive potential, but with the injury concerns. Those two alone are tempting. Lucroy was pretty average last year and another year like that and his value is going to plummet. I have a hard time seeing a team offer a can't miss prospect for him so why not take a little extra risk and go Matuella? And heck maybe the Rangers are deperate enough to throw in two lower minor league guys to sweeten the pot. That would be hard to say no to.
  18. Also rumored the Rangers have inquired about Lucroy. Interesting trade would be Brinson/Matualla and maybe a lower level player or two depending on the value put on Matuella. Brinson looks like a solid power/speed combo with very good defense in center field. Then take Matuella and bank on him getting healthy and reaching his sky high ceiling. I could see the Rangers doing it because they don't have much of a spot for Brinson and when it comes to Matuella he is farther off with decent injury concern.
  19. Chapman is great and all, but he is still a reliever on a one year deal that would take a record deal to keep around. Really hard convincing a team to break the farm for that and to be honest they should have traded him long before now.
  20. Heard the source for that update was from a Haudricourt article that just said he was the most likely of any Brewers to be traded at winter meetings. Sounds a bit misleading.
  21. The luxury tax is agreed upon in each CBA. Including next year it has only changed once in the past 7 years by $10mil. They have had more of a rolling increase back in the early 2000s so it was increasing every year, but they have not gone with that recently. Basically the owners and MLBPA can decide to make it whatever they want. With all these massive gains in revenue lately the next negotiation should be pretty interesting. The smaller it is the better for the Brewers.
  22. Yes Milwaukee still doesn't have a high payroll, but everyone increasing pushes everyone closer in general ASSUMING they don't spike up the luxury tax in the next CBA. That is more than possible, but what we have seen so far is that team don't want to go over that luxury tax. As long as that continues and the luxury tax doesn't explode MLB should become more balanced. We shall see what the future holds of course.
  23. Or replace them with up and coming prospects. That team is incredibly loaded. They have such a strong core and enough stars they won't feel the need to ever blow prospects to compete. I am sure their system will be loaded by 2020 once again. Prime team to compete for a long long time.
  24. It wouldn't take that much and no way I would do that. I will take a flyer on him, but I am not giving up value for him.
  25. I think they are looking at a bigger window than 5 years. They have serious payroll room so resigning a star or two is certainly possible. I don't think they are looking at a 5 years window if you ask me. That team could easily become a perennial contender for a long time much similar to St. Louis.
