  1. This may mark the end to Elian Herrera. Plays all the same positions and Villar is clearly better. As much as I wish this was the end of Segura I doubt that is the case yet. I think you guys aren't giving Villar enough credit. It looks like he could put up some adequate defense somewhere to be an average starter. A versatile player with speed is something a lot of teams would like to have. Kid has 40 stolen base speed if he played every day and has good OBP skills. Sure that is nothing amazing, but I guess that is better than Grandpa Ramirez or Yuni B. Bonus is the fact we can control him through 2020 despite 3 years of partial MLB experience.
  2. Or look at Jean Segura who mashed only to turn out as one of the worst offensive players in baseball.
  3. You would create quite a war if you tried to make pitchers only throw 4 innings. Not to mention good luck ever getting a pitcher in FA. You better keep the pitching pumping through the minors. Probably tough to extend them too and not to mention their salary request wouldn't make sense for a guy throwing only 4 innings. MLB would hate you.
  4. You will never have Chacin of 2013. He doesn't have the velocity he had then and that is why his stats went wack. Just because he is young doesn't make him a good rebound candidate. Since 2013 he has only averaged 90mph one time on his fastball and most starts he was hanging around 88mph. He isn't a guy who depends on the fastball, but he still through it the most or close to it so it isn't like we can ignore it. He needs to figure out how to be crafty or he won't find success again. Can the Brewers teach him that? Who knows? Also Jhoulys Chacin isn't going to want to come here and pitch middle relief. There are teams that offer a better opportunity than here. We have a lot of starters and a lot of young ones at that. If he is going to take a minor league deal he can find a team that he might have a chance with. Not saying he wouldn't have one here, but I think he could find a better spot.
  5. We can't wait for a HS ace to develop? It took 2 years for Kershaw to hit the majors and 3 to become a force...how is that waiting too long? This rebuild is going to take 4 years at least realistically. Not picking an elite pitcher because he won't be in the majors next year would be an epic fail on our part.
  6. All those situations aren't comparable. The player was traded for a player to be named later and they opted to just trade back who they got canceling out the trade. Since three players are involved in this trade you can't really do that. Besides I don't think I am going to lose sleep over possibly not getting some scrub who will likely amount to nothing.
  7. No way the Cubs don't protect Candelario. If they were dumb enough not to some team would pick him before us. A switch hitter with OBP skills, decent defense, and power from both sides of the plate is not something you let go.
  8. Factoring in the freedom to get a rule V guy does help push the value of this trade up. I suppose we won't know for a while who might be available. Hopefully there is an intriguing 1B or 3B prospect that some team is trying to slip through unprotected. Or any type of bullpen arm. Wang was a pretty good snag for Rule 5...something like that again would make a lot of sense.
  9. That Top 3 pick sounds quite appetizing. Time to get our Bryant/Schwarber, Harper/Strasburg, or Gonzalez/Beckett combo
  10. Not that is matters, but I didn't think you could do that in baseball? I always thought that was more of a football thing with the draft picks. For baseball I thought you get the original list and that is the list you will pick from no matter what.
  11. Yah I will put my money on Javier Betancourt to never be anything useful. He reminds me of Yadiel Rivera(no offense), but at least Rivera can play 3rd/SS. At least with Rivera you can wishfully think he can be a utility guy. Betancourt can't really play SS so he either becomes a starting caliber 2B or he is a bust. Unless the Brewers know something everyone else doesn't it was pretty much a salary relief move. Which is fine in my books, but the return is nothing special.
  12. The PTBNL is likely due to the Rule 5 draft in December. Maybe they want a guy who could be picked, but don't want him if they have to use a 40 man spot so have a list of other players in that scenario? Regardless I know this has happened before due to Rule 5 reasons.
  13. Hard to be mad at any return if we dumped that entire salary. Betancourt isn't anything exciting, but at least he is young and has some upside to him.
  14. Yuni Betancourt hears the call.....
  15. Something about a guy who hasn't played for 3 years, is going on 39 years old, and plays horrid defense just doesn't seem like a fit for the Brewers.
  16. I am going off the assumption that we would have to put him on the MLB team out of spring training to keep him. We have so many young pitchers for him to compete with and if he goes to the minors he has to pitch in Colorado. I would think he would pack up and go elsewhere if he isn't one of our 5 starters. I am all for bringing him in for spring training if he wants to try and hope for injuries etc., but as it stands right now there isn't a whole lot of room for a a guy like Chacin on this team. You are also underrating the value of Garza bouncing back. If he puts up sub 4ERA numbers the Brewers would have a chance to trade all or most of his salary. Teams pay a lot of money for average pitchers these days and they are always in demand.
  17. I guess this is all a bit silly since the odds we trade Ryan Braun's salary is pretty close to zero and the Brewers can't afford to have $40mil tied up to just two players. I think the offense will be fine in the future. I would rather commit all that salary to a top of the rotation pitcher when the time comes if I were to spend it.
  18. Value wise I think one elite prospect(Top 40), another highly regard prospect(Top 100), one prospect close to the Top 100 if not in there, and a promising lower minors type player. There would be so much interest if he hit the market. It would take an earth shattering deal to get him. Even what I said may be to little. Hard to know when these kind of deals don't happen.
  19. It would take more than you mentioned. At least Arcia, Phillips, or Clark. Plus two-three more quality prospects. Expensive or not that is an elite player in his prime years.
  20. There is no way MLB would add 4 more games each and 4 off days. That would add 8 days to the season. They don't want the season lasting another second let alone over a week longer.
  21. I don't know that it hurts Lind's value all that much. They just aren't comparable trade chips in all honesty. With Freeman you have to commit serious money over the next two years and have your farm system take a huge hit. Lind has very good offensive production himself and won't cost anywhere near the same prospects or money. Very well may not effect his value at all.
  22. You must have missed the 2013 season. The Red Sox won the World Series. Something the Brewers can't manage in 45 years. Yah the Sandoval/Ramirez signings are a bit of an old school type move, but like you said they still have some young talent and more coming up in the minors. They just traded for a top flight closer to make an incredible bullpen which everyone knows is the big reason the Royals made the World Series the last two years. Looks like an above average team with a good chance to compete. I'm sorry but I don't see how a team that won one of the last three World Series and is looking to be competitive again is getting passed up.
  23. I actually think the White Sox might be the top landing spot. It is a team desperate to win, but probably not big FA players after last offseason. A deal for either Carlos Rodon or Carson Fulmer would have to be pretty attractive for the Brewers. I think they have the complementing pieces too.
  24. Part of the reason Matt Weiters took that offer was the lack of need for a catcher from teams around baseball. It still helps Jonathan Lucroy's case, but still poses the same issue. Not to mention you have to find a team with the prospects to do it. Though Weiters has pretty big health concerns on how much he can truly catch which Lucroy doesn't have persay.
  25. They did but who is there to bump out of our rotation? Peralta won't, Nelson is a no, and hard time seeing Jungmann get the boot. I highly doubt they don't give Garza a spot back. Matt Garza is a nice bounce back candidate himself. So if we are talking bounce back players he should be in the rotation for that reason. There is that last spot...you could send Davies back down because he is so young, but he was decent in his 6 starts last year. I wouldn't be opposed to sending Davies down to test out Chacin, but then again it would be nice for Davies to get some starts. We should let Jungmann and Davies get a big workload to see if either is going to stick long term. Because Jorge Lopez is knocking on the door waiting for a chance too, though I think he could use more time. The luxury the Cubs had was the fact they didn't have many starting pitcher type prospects in their system at the time. The Brewers rotation is so young from top to bottom it is hard to bump someone out for a project or to trade any of them.
