  1. What did Sardinas do to diminish his top-100 prospect status other than be just-ok at the MLB level in a small sample size? He's only 21. I wouldn't trade Sardinas for a non-top-100 prospect, no way. Exactly. Some people on this forum make the most reckless comments at times just to see if they stick. Not saying anything is wrong with Sardinas I actually think he did pretty well in his first time in the big leagues. Not sure if you could get a Top 100 prospect though...that might be stretching it. I know for a fact they aren't getting Renfroe, way better of a prospect than Sardinas is. The main problem with a Sardinas trade is the fact it would virtually be prospect for prospect trade which isn't the most common practice. The main problem with a Sardinas trade is the fact it would virtually be a prospect for prospect trade which isn't the most common practice. I would require a Top 100 prospect to trade him too, but I don't think Sardinas is the kind of player where teams are lining up to get him. Also have to wonder if a contending team really wants to trade for a prospect with little MLB experience. I'd think a team like the Padres would want a proven guy.
  2. Are you strictly talking about Sardinas? Sardinas isn't worth a whole lot at this point and isn't worth a sliver of Renfroe(Top 50 prospect). Even Segura isn't worth one of their top 100 prospects unless he has a great first half and then maybe they would part with high risk high reward Hedges. Neither of our SS options are valuable at this point in time.
  3. I imagine the Dominican.
  4. I'd have to argree with everything you have said. If we sign Zimmerman we have a solid rotation for the future, we have a solid OF for the future, our middle infield has a lot of potential talent, and I am confident Lucroy will be here past 2017, though it is no for sure thing...that really just leaves the corner infield. I think this team could compete in 2017 or 2018 quite easily. If Orlando Arcia and Tyrone Taylor are ready next year you have two great trade chips in Gennett/Gomez to auction off. Also can't forget Lohse and Ramirez should both bring back some solid prospects in July too assuming they stay healthy. I don't think the Brewers are in the serious trouble people make it out to be. They have a lot of cheap controllable players right now through 2020 for most and have a lot of money coming off the books. Add that to our pair of Top 100 prospects nearly MLB ready and that isn't a bleak future at all.
  5. Mark AND Doug? The fact we haven't had a rebuild is Mark and ALL Mark. He thinks he can put a competitive team out there every year and always says the Brewers aren't a small market. Every off season he blows the same trumpet...saying the Brewers won't rebuild, don't need to rebuild, and will make the moves to try to win. Doug Melvin just does what his boss tell him to do...and his boss is great that he wants to win...but he needs to understand it gets to a point where you have to hold back a little and reload. I think it's also on Doug. At some point, he needs to tell Mark that the Brewers need to look to the long term - and be willing to put his job on the line if need be. Now, I think the Brewers can be a successful team and can, with proper preparation, avoid major rebuilding projects, and that they can maximize their market. But at the same time, to do that, the farm system is incredibly important, and the team needs to pay more attention there than it has lately. What do you think the Gallardo trade was or the fact they refused to trade any real prospects last July? Doug Melvin could have traded the farm for a guy like David Price. They haven't touched the farm system for a long long time. There hasn't been much addition outside of drafting, but that is to be expected if you are trying to compete. It isn't publicized but I think Doug Melvin has told Mark that they can't trade all their prospects etc.
  6. To each their own. Just because a few say something doesn't make it the consensus, just like 1 start doesn't mean it isn't true. I say this as someone who isn't worried about Nelson. The last guy I remember with a told ya so attitude was a real treat to read. I say it like that just because of how bad people were treating that one spring training start. That and the fact that not only did he pitch well, but he was pretty dominant while doing so. Hopefully it is a sign of things to come. Would be nice to have to have a homegrown duo of Nelson/Peralta. And for the record I would not have said anything if it were just a good start...but the fact he was go dominant I couldn't resist.
  7. Just thought everyone should know he went 7 innings giving up a pair of ground ball singles, zero runs, and struck out 9. Sorry I wasn't concerned about a minor league spring training game...you guys were right. Might have to send him to Single A.
  8. And it wasn't an accident either...was sitting right on that pitch and hit a no doubter. I am intrigued to see if Segura can turn it around or not. The talent is there, but the last year and a half his approach has been brutal. Reminds me of Carlos Gomez in a way.
  9. Hold my beer did Segura just hit a homerun? Someone go check his paper. It can't be him.
  10. Remember when everyone was freaking out because of his spring training stats?!
  11. This year might be a learning year for him regarding that curve, but man he raised his ceiling if he figures it out.
  12. Did they always plan on using Nelson right away or was that a decision after Lohse has that brutal start?
  13. Wow so yesterday we start Adam Lind vs. LHP and he does good and today we start Gomez over Gennett and he has a double...ahh baseball.
  14. This. It's not about what could've been if we didn't trade away prospects to build the 2011 team. It's that immediately thereafter, we no longer had a World Series caliber team - not even a playoff caliber team really. But regardless we've refused to rebuild, not even in a minor way. Instead we've signed free agents in lieu of draft picks, held on to aging players in lieu of trading them for future prospects, all to hold on to a mildly competitive team. If the goal is to win a World Series, the strategy since 2012 has been horrendous, and now any pieces of value we once had to rebuild are mostly gone or aging to the point of decreasing returns. The Gallardo trade was the first move since 2011 that was the slightest bit encouraging that Doug and Mark are realizing the rebuild must begin. The rebuild has had to happen for 3+ years now, and the longer we wait, the longer and more painful this process will have to be.
  15. The only down side to this trade is the fact that there still is that slight hope Segura become a legit SS and this Padres starter doesn't provide a lot of upside. Are the Brewers really dying for a slightly above average starter?...not really. Not going to lose sleep if we passed up on a trade like this and Segura never turned it around. If he ends up turning in a good first half, however, we could get a nice return and possibly a nice prospect.
  16. They are not that bad...yet. Trading Lohse and Ramirez would create two giant holes that could really make the team tank to that point though. Not that those two guys are great, but just the fact that their replacements will be awful. Will be interesting to see if players like Lind, Gomez, and Segura are made available if they are sellers come July.
  17. Worthless? That attendance/merchandise sales over this year and next if they were to be a 65 win team could end up as a $10mil loss or more. So no it isn't worthless...It is worth millions. Now if this is the start to a horrible first half who knows what kind of win total they end up with. I guess cheering for them to sneak into that Top 10 protected picks is a good goal if they continue to scuffle. I don't think think they will do bad enough to get a high top 5 pick.
  18. If our options are to lose 96 or play .500 from here on out, I'd take the former. Yeah, .500 was a nice milestone for the '05 group when we were a young and ascending squad but knew that we just weren't quite there yet. For an aging veteran team on its last breaths desperately trying to cling to validity, it's a pretty worthless goal. The team still could compete that is all I am saying(I wouldn't bet on it...but hey never know). I do disagree with the notion that being .500 is worthless. If we sell off in July and finish with at least 75 wins that would be very helpful for team support. The Brewers aren't going to be stupid come July. I think they know they are a long shot and if they don't look good at that point they will sell off...but as 2012 showed that doesn't mean you can't win some games in August/September.
  19. I know everyone likes to overreact, but it should be noted the Brewers did lose the first 4 in 2011 yet still won 96...though I don't think that 4 game losing streak was this awful and we were losing our #1 pitcher during that. No reason this team can't turn it around and go the .500 ball they are expected to be.
  20. You people realize Roenicke WANTS Lind and Gennett to hit vs. LHPs. It isn't because we don't have a different option. He wants them to "get a chance". Waste of time is what I call it.
  21. This is Segura not Lucroy you know. Segura was one of the worst every day hitters in the majors. I wouldn't expect any top prospects. EDIT: The Brandon Marrow comment is just pointless and means nothing. Marrow is for one on a garanteed contract and secondly Marrow couldn't be optioned while the other could. Most teams prefer to keep depth at the start of the season. I mean do you think Hector Gomez or Luis Jiminez is better than Matt Clark because they made an opening day roster over him...come on don't think so narrowly.
  22. Where is the accept button...has Segura even hit a ball in the air? Ground ball machine...
  23. I think Jean Segues will have a lot to say with that. If Segues is going good I imagine they just keep him at AA all season...won't be shocked if he gets to Colorado though.
  24. Do people forget 2012?.... I agree completely, but he did have a post PED year that was MVP caliber.
  25. I'm all for moving on from Melvin, but Attanasio is a big part of that front office, free agent signings, and direction the team chooses from year to year. Unless that changes, bringing in a new GM can only have so much impact if the owner also wants to have a quasi-GM role himself. I have liked Doug Melvin and the majority of his decisions, but I really think they should move on if they go into a mini rebuild. I just don't see the point of having a GM who is soon to retire controlling your rebuild years.
