  1. I never liked beast mode, because that is what I call my neighbor lady. She's got this horrible cough that goes on all day/night. When she goes into those fits I always called her a beast because it doesn't even sound human. I have asked her to cover her mouth to muffle the noise a bit, but she still lets it rip. Anyways, I think this should be in the what's bugging you thread!
  2. I'm not really a golpher, but my sister's husband worked as a caddy at the Straits for a few summers or so. I know he took the job pretty serious, and made it seem as if the caddies were expected to know the course very well and be able to off up advice.
  3. The Diamondback announcers made points during the game that the Brewers and Kennedy were not matched well to produce double plays. If I remember correctly, Kennedy hasn't induced a single double play all season. Overall I liked Yost as our manager. It took me a while to warm up to Macha, but I don't really have too much toocomplain about him. The quotes from Macha and Weeks don't appear to be in conflict to me. Macha wasn't saying to take a pitch regardless, more or less I took the quote to make sure the batters are swinging at strikes. --------------------------------- Moderator note: The original intent of this topic (disdain for Brewer managers in general) has long since run its course and is now focused mainly on Ken Macha. Because similar discussion is occurring in the "anyone else seeing big changes ahead?" topic, I'm closing this and directing any further discussion about Macha over there. --1992casey ---------------------------------
  4. I should have whipped out the camera on Saturday when Salamone was visiting Vargas on the mound. Yikes, that looked weird with the height difference.
  5. I was at the game on March 6th vs. the Giants. Every inning the team came in from the outfield, Edmonds appeared to be coaching Braun or Hart on something. His arm sure looked great that game also when he gunned down a runner a third by quite a bit.
  6. The Diamondback games I can watch on local FSN-AZ. I am unable to watch the Padres. This is the downfall of MLB.TV.
  7. I guess I am a person that always liked that baseball doesn't send half the league to the playoffs. I don't think the wild card is too bad. One thing I always thought of was a best of 6 first round series. The division winner needs 3 wins to advance to the next round while the wild card team needs 4 wins. The thing I don't like about that idea is when the wild card is a superior team to the division winner.
  8. I moved to Tucson, AZ in 2006 and have used MLB.TV since then. I like it. It was nice because I could use both audio and tv. A lot of times I was at work, so I could still use it. If I purchased the Extra Inning from DirecTV I would harldy get to use it. MLB.TV lets you choose which set of broadcasters you want also. It improves each year. The only thig to worry about is which games you a blacked out from. Tucson is the Diamondbacks, Padres, and maybe one other team. The diamond backs I get with the normal Cable package though. If you live in an area with many teams blacked out, you may not like the package so much. Also you can go back on watch previous games any time you want. I still wish I could just order FSN-WI, but it just isn't that easy. Anyway, I am just adding another endorsement for MLB.TV. Just watch out for blackouts.
  9. I always loved Ben's sense of humor. I think it made most people think he was dumb as a stump, but I always loved interviews with him.
  10. I bought a tablet right before the release of Windows 7, am I eligible for the upgradw too? I meant to look into this before the Spring semester started, but I didn't have the time. I purchased the computer on ebay. I am fine with the way it runs now, but I was told the battery life improves with 7. I was originally afraid of driver issues, but a good deal of time has passed since the release and I am not as concerned anymore. This is not my primary computer either in case a few small bugs hit in the conversion.
  11. Did you actually get the Bing Cashback? I bought a tablet on ebay for $700 with 8% cashback. I guess I haven't checked paypal to see if it actuallu showed up though. As far as laptops I have been purchasing HP's with decent luck. I am writing this from a convertible tablet computer. It's pretty cool. A lot of co-workers keep asking about it, but I tell them don't get a tablet unless you have a good reason for it. I am a engineering student, so it comes in handy for school. Overall HP's have been good to me. I am not opposed to other brands though.
  12. Thanks for the great interview. I was just thinking about Spivey the other day, little did I know that he was playing right here in Tucson. Too bad I was busy with school all summer long. I live about 5 minutes from where they play and the HR guy for the Toros used to work where I do. I remember Junior being pretty popular, along with Overbay, at the On Deck event the year he was traded. I remember some guy thanking him and hoping he would stay in Milwaukee for a long time. Junior handled the question great even though I am sure he knew the writing was on the wall with Weeks. Once again, great interview. Junior seems very happy and content with his life.
  13. Well Bear meat is pretty darn good if you can get some. The boss of my first job was a hunter, so we would get to try some not as common meats. My uncle is a big hunter and actually killed a bear with a knife. I still laugh every time I think of that - it just doesn't sound like a good idea. Maybe if you buy him a new knife, he will go get you a bear!
  14. I don't think you would have trouble buying tickets the day of the game for any Brewers home games, but all the other teams might be a little trouble. There are always scalpers just like at Miller Park though. I like the Angels park a lot, but it is pretty small and usually sold out.
  15. Well the playoffs do not appear all that likely anymore, but a winning record and 2nd in the division is still very possible. I still like keeping up with the team as reading about the Brewers is still one of the first things I do with internet leisure time. I haven't really been able to use my MLB.TV subscription much this year and that kind of stinks. I was looking forward to listening to see how Provus compares to Powell. The little bit I have heard, he is pretty good. All in all a busy life (10+ credits/semester and summer courses of upper level engineering courses along with 40+ hours working this season) keeps me from following as close as I would like, but the misfortunes have probably kept me from putting in the extra effort. My girlfriend keeps asking me if I want to go up to Phoenix for the Brewers series, but I keep telling her to wait and see how that weekend looks when it gets here. If I had the opportunity to blow everything else off for a weekend, I would still go despite the season's results.
  16. I have quit at two jobs. Both times I was afraid of the employer's response, but both cases were handled well. My first boss was absolutely ruthless, but he took it well. He told me I could stay as long as I want, or leave earlier if I wanted because he knew I was moving too. I was really shocked, but grateful. The second boss wasn't quite as crazy, but still a bit odd. I thought it might go bad. They originally found out through the grapevine rather than my word. They approached me about it. I was leaving for school reason like you are. In a way he seemed envious. He knew I had it good at that job, but I was still willing to move on to try and do more schooling. He told me stories of one of his buddies that gave up a prestigious job at a young age to pursue school. He went on to be a very prominent figure in whatever field he went into. Anyways, I am just hoping to calm your fear of an episode. I would have bet my life savings my first boss would have done anything to screw with me, but he was very accepting. Just do your best to make sure they know you put in 100% effort to your last day. Hopefully your reputation has earned you some respect.
  17. I don't think the shirts are all that awful looking either. When I was home for Christmas I looked at the pictures of the shirts and shook my head. My sisters joked they were going to get my brother and I some for Christmas. When my family did come visit for Spring Training, my brother did have two of the shirts along. I have to say they look a lot better in person. I didn't think my brother looked goofy in the shirts at all. They had an event in a mall in AZ. My brother and sister went to it. They said not many people were there, so they got to spend a lot of time to talk and take pictures with Braun, Hardy, Derrick Lee, and I think Bill Hall. I am too cheap to spend that type of money on clothes. Afterall, I still rock out my buckethead t-shirts most of the time. That is how I went clothes shopping. haha.
  18. That was probably one of the most entertaining interviews that I have read. Great job by both involved.
  19. I am shocked that people obsess over this so much. I understand what Valpo is saying for sure. Collecting balls obviously means a lot to the guy. Someone who puts that much effort into collecting batting practice balls, I think would value milestone home run balls by quite a bit. I think a lot of people are pushing their personal beliefs should be held by everyone. Just because a ball means nothing to you, does not mean it doesn't mean something to someone else. I sure can't say I would do everything the way HY does, since I don't really care about catching home run balls. At the same time, never catching one doesn't let me see the thrill and the value there is in it. I don't see why people are so bent out of shape about this. From the things I have read, I think I can see HY's side every step of the way. He is right, attendance in Florida stinks, would it have been a big deal to give up some tickets? Is asking for an additional player's signed bat considered classless? Maybe, but I don't see the harm in asking. I guess threads like these are one big reason why I have shied away from this site over the past year or so. It seems too many people are just so full of themselves and they are too confident that they are right and others are wrong. Personally reading people's weird obsessions over this, Yost, Helms, and whatever else put a bigger black-eye on Brewer fans than HY in my opinion.
  20. I think the fat fingered thing is a good guess, but I am no expert in this.
  21. There are a lot of goof ones on here. Some pretty funny! Here is what I would say: Dear me (1995), I am currently 29 writing back to you. First things first. You know when you look at all of the senior pictures of the past grads of high school? You think they really look like dorks but think you will never look like a dork. You think you'll have a picture that will be great for years to come, but in the end, the kids nowadays still laugh at you. You will make the right choice about dating in highschool. You won't. In a class your size the pickings are slim, and there is much more and better girls awaiting after high school. When you do graduate, you will finally date your friends little sister after he leaves for the army. She is a good girlfriend, but like I said, more fish in the sea. You will have your social life open up a lot at about 19 years old. That's when the girls will come. You will have a new date almost every weekend. Eventually the well dries up. If there is one girl that you will really feel like you should have put more effort into it is Michelle. She's the first one you meet after Dawn. She is amazingly beautiful then, and one of the nicest girls you will ever meet. She only gets better looking as the years pass. I don't know if things would have worked, but it is something to try a little harder on. Don't always go with the idea of there will always be more. You will have lots of funny stories. You will start on fire at school, but it didn't hurt too much. Everyone gets a good laugh from that story. You will get busted for drinking the 3rd time you ever drink. It is a great story. It was in a field 1/4 mile from the house, and you asked the cop if that was your flashlight. You parents don't get too upset. In 2001, you are going to dump a ton of money into retirement funds after your 22nd B-day. It will be best to wait a few more months. You will also buy a brand new truck that you hardly use. Be smart, get a used one that doesn't cost much. You will love that blue escort you just bought. You will keep it for nearly 10 years. Also, you think that you will be able to buy a house with cash with the career you had out of tech school, but things will never work out that way. I still don't own a house in 2009. In 2003, you will experience a very rough start to the year. You will lose your 17 y.o. cousin. You will get your "dream job" only to have the company downsize 2.5 months later. You learn a lot that year. You end up with a good job, and you become a much more humble person. Working 88 hours a week probably wasn't the best idea when you were at your first job. In 2006 you move to AZ, where I am now. I am not sure if I like it. I am going to school and working full-time, it makes life rough sometimes. I am going for a Mechanical Engineering degree, which you will never think of once during high school. I think it is better that I waited, even though it seems tough. Overall, you do a good job. A lot of people admire and respect you. There isn't a whole lot to tell you to do different. Maybe start taking classes earlier, so you can go to school at a slower pace while you work. You will feel rushed the older you get. In 2009, you will have a great girl too in case any of the earlier ones don't work out. There are a lot of things in your life that you want to share with others, but some of them pass on before you finish. Work hard on that '67 Mustang you buy so that you can show it to you uncle and grandparents. You just don't know when someone may leave you. Laying and watching an extra hour of TV can add up to a lot of wasted time in your life. Signed, you (2009)
  22. Maybe Doug missed, but I don't think it was going to happen for him in Milwaukee. He would be on the bench here. He probably be better than the bench guys we have, but I just don't think we had the room for him. Wasn't it the Cordero deal though, or did we get him from the White Sox?
  23. I live in Tucson now. I think it has a bigger population that Milwaukee, but it reminds me more of West Bend, WI. I don't mind it, but I really don't love it. I am going to school and working full time, so I don't really have much of a chance to enjoy anything here. I think it is kind of a hippy town. I am used to moving a a much faster pace than the locals (unless they are driving). I had a bunch of friends here who loved it, but moved away for one reason or another. I figured once I finish school I will give it a chance for a while, since I am dating a local lady. I have already told her that I would probably like to move back to WI though. If you are in to mountains and hiking, rock climbing, etc., Tucson will be great. As far as city life, I don't think it feels much like Milwaukee. My opinion is the weather is great 90% of the year. So much that it is boring. It is nice enough to drive my scooter year round. I think there is a stretch in mid-July to mid August where the weather is better than WI. I gets really hot before and after that, but it doesn't seem to be that awful for all that long. It is always nice to see a beautiful woman jogging in a bikini top and very short shorts in November! Phoenix is a lot greener, and has much more of a bar scene. People in AZ seem to like one of the two cities and despise the other. Phoenix is kept looking a lot nicer than Tucson, but Tucson does have some nice spots too. I think the law school is supposed to be pretty decent at the U of A. I don't think Tucson is really a place someone can tell you you will love or hate. I think, like any place, it has things that are pretty crummy, and things that are awesome. Some days I love it here, and others I wish I could just pack up and go back home. You will get that in any city though. I think it is great to try another city though. I might even encourage a city not much like Milwaukee, so that you can get a better judge of what you really do enjoy. I miss things about home when I a here, and I miss things about Tucson when I go back home. Getting stuck in the snow in the middle of the road stinks, but the grass is so green (in WI) it looks fake to me in the warmer months. I think moving away to a different type of area really makes you appreciate more little things. Edit: Also about the weather: The summer I moved here I visited in early July to pick an apartment out. It was so hot, that I questioned why I wanted to move here. The next summer I went home to WI, and I wondered how I could stand that weather. It was 80 degrees and I was sweating like a pig, getting bit by all kinds of bugs. It felt awful. My point is that your body adapts very fast. It might feel horribe to start, but you get used to it fast. People would live somewhere if it was that awful.
  24. Yeah, I think it is something you really have to appreciated the power to enjoy. Circle track racing takes a good car, but is heavily relying on a good driver and other guys not being idiots. I used to be on a pit crew for a guy that ran late models. He was darn good, but the frustrating thing was you could spend hours each week getting a car ready and another driver still can wipe you out by the first turn. Drag racing is primarily about setting up the car. It is something you enjoy if building engines is your thing. It is a lot easier to see your work without having to worry about other guys wrecking you. I enjoy watching both on occasion yet. I used to work with a guy that worked for John Force and some other top guys in the NHRA. I forgot the amount he said it cost for to run a championship worthy car, but it was minute compared to NASCAR. I think it takes a good deal of brains to be successful at any level of racing. You can't just read the Internet for a day and know how to set up a car or engine. It takes a lot of reading and picking other people's brains to get good. I am glad I got the hick background, because I use it for my job; developing Fuel Injection systems for military hovercrafts. I am also grateful for the hicks that work on my car when I don't have the time or tools. Having a hands on background sure helps towards an engineering degree. There are enough coworkers that I don't think can even change their oil despite their degree. It takes all kinds to make the world go round.
  25. Yeah Tucson, AZ doesn't seem so so bad now. I think it has been in the 70's all week and was over 80 last weekend. I was working on my car today with my girlfriend's dad. he was amazed at much WI cars rust. I still enjoyed WI weather though. I had a snowmobile, so the snow was nice. You appreciate the seasons a lot more when you leave.
