  1. As much as I like Green, I think I could deal with it if it were him. Hes the farthest away from the bigs, and we seem to be set with infielders, at least for the foreseeable future, with Weeks, Hardy, Escobar, possibly Irabarren, Brent Brewer.
  2. At this point, missing the playoffs is starting to look like a real possibly, so if they don't have to give up another player, that would certainly help ease the pain. When considering who you'd most like to give up, there really is no good choice. Each player brings plenty of upside and talent. I think I want to keep Brantley most because we need someone with good strikezone discipline that can hit leadoff. Weeks is only hitting leadoff kind of by default. Then Lucroy, because good catching is hard to come by, and if we can get a homegrown one, all the better. Then probably Cain because of his tools, but we don't really have a spot for him, and Green is a left handed hitter at a position, either second or third, where we need him. Its a tough call, whichever way you look at it.
  3. Really? After less than one year of pro ball you're willing to say that His walk rate in college was just as bad. Last season at the U. of SF he had 61 walks in 75.1 innings. I had a hard time finding any stats from previous seasons, but I cant imagine his walk numbers all of a sudden jumped up his last year in college. Thats why I said what I said, it wasnt based entirely on his 32 innings in West Virginia. He may get it fixed, he may not, but right now its hard to compare his success to that of Will Inman, who is still fairly young for his league.
  4. Phillies lose tonight we will be 4 up in the wildcard. I love that kind of sad. Unortunately both the Cardinals and Astros won though, so they both gained a game. Philly has an extremely easy remaining schedule, including 6 games against the Braves and 3 against the Nationals. If we dont at the very least split with them in Philly, we are in trouble. St Louis, not so easy...they still play Chicago 6 times, and Arizona 4 times, but then again we still have to play Chicago 6 times and Philly 4, so its kind of a wash. Its just pathetic seeing the team fail in so many areas, offense, defense, pitching, at the most important time of the season when after a quarter of a century the chances are playoffs are actually real.
  5. The cubs are struggling bad and if we were winning at all lately we could be a game or two back. Instead we get swept by the Mets AND lose 2 of 4, at home no less, to the worst team in the National League. St Louis Philly and now Houston are all sneaking up on us, and losing series in Philly and Chicago could knock us out of the wildcard lead. This is getting pathetic to watch a team that was this good during the season all of a sudden blow it in September (now I know how the Mets fan felt last year). The offense is putrid, the defense is worse than its usual bad, and the pitching is inconsistent at best. Chicago has a very rough schedule left and we dont....they need to get this done!
  6. Frederickson apparently has no idea how to throw strikes, and never has, so i think at this point at least its safe to say both Inman and Garrison will have more success than he will. On a related note, I think Melvin's biggest failure, I guess you have to add Jack Z. in there, is the failure to develope any pitching, Gallardo and Parra and the only two starters that have had any success whatsoever while guys like Hendrickson ( i know Bando drafted him) Luis Martinez, Mike Jones, Mark Rogers, Dana Eveland have either taken a dump when they hit the majors or got hurt and will probably never make the majors. Even Jeffress, pretty much the only real good pitching prospect, hasnt had much success other than a high strikeout total. Perhaps if we could develope some pitching , we wouldnt have to take risks like on guys like Gagne and Mota.
  7. Did I say $20, i meant $15!!!
  8. A big problem I see is that not only are we probably going to lose our top two pitchers, but that cupboard for pitchers in the minor leagues is basically empty. You have Jeffress who has the potential to be a #1, but he has been wildly inconsistant and will start the year at Huntsville. Below him there is really nothing that will be ready for at least 2 or 3 years. Thats why getting a guy like Cain or Lincecum will be necessary. I still think you need to bite the bullett and give Sheets whatever he wants. The contracts we have expiring in the next few years (Kendall, Cameron, Suppan), plus the likely trades of at least 2 of Hart, Weeks, Hardy, and Fielder will give you some room for error. With 3 million in attendance and very good tv ratings you'd think the payroll would jump quite a bit. I still think SF is the ideal partner. With what about Fielder for Cain and Baumgardner (sp?)? We could throw in a guy like Gillespie or Irabarren if necessary.
  9. I've got 2 extra tix, sec 420 row 13 for 9/9 that I cant use. Anyone interested in them? Face is $14 each, so Im asking $20 total.
  10. Would Fielder bring back more than just Cain? Maybe Fielder for Cain and a prospect. SF needs offense so Fielder would look great at first there, and we desperately need a starting pitcher. This would make the lossess of Sheets and Sabathia more managable, plus there'd be a ton of money free'd up with Gagne and Sheets off the book, as well as Counsell, Mota and Turnbow. It would allow us not only to pickup the option on Cain, but we could get a few more bullpen arms on top of Torres, McClung, Stetter, Dillard, Villanueva and Riske. We could get a good utility guy, someone in the Derosa variey who can actually hit. This would also involve moving Gamel to first and letting him start, which is very risky considering he's never played first and he struggled the last 2 months of the season. But, i think something drastic will have to be done to compete next year without Sheets or Sabathia, because I dont think Gallardo and Parra are going to cut it at 1-2, at least not next year.
  11. I sent you a message back with my number.....I am definitely interested in those. Get back to me asap
  12. It really is too bad that there are no minor league games left for him to pitch in. If he could 2 or 3 starts down there and up by mid september starting games, that would be about as awesome as awesome is allowed to be. A healthy Gallardo as a #3? Thats ridiculous. You could go the entire playoffs with your worst starter being Manny Parra......i think it just wet myself.
  13. Any chance we resign Mike Jones and move him to the pen? I know his numbers are bad this year but it was nice to finally see him healthy. Anyone know how hard he throws now?
  14. I was wondering if anyone here had 4 tickets to the Brewers game in Chicago on 9/16 that they were looking to sell. If so, send me a message and let me know what you're asking.
  15. I'm kinda torn on where I want Gamel. It'd be nice to have to stick at third to finally solve that black hold we've had there, but the fact is at the very best his defense will be average to below average, and after witness the past few years what bad defense can do, I wouldnt mind seeing him move to first. I also wouldnt mind seeing Hart at first replacing Fielder after next season. That could leave the outfield to be Braun, Brantley, Gamel, Cain, and Gillespie with Hart at first, Weeks at second, Escobar and Hardy at short and third. Very young team in '10 but lots of talent. Hopefully Prince can be flipped for some good young pitching to go with Parra and Gallardo. As far as '09 goes, I dont think CC is realistic, but i think Sheets is. Give him $64 million for 4 years. I guess pick up the option on Cameron, let Gagne and Counsell and Mota go, along with Turnbow obviously.
  16. Does TWC get multiple Big Ten games like the dishes do? Anyone know?
  17. $22 million might. Whats a extra $12 million over six years for one of the best pithers in the game? Don't forget after next season we will have Cameron's $10 million will come off, I think Kendall will be making $5 million, and Suppan will only have only one more year on his ridiculous contract. So i don't think it would be too risky to pay Sabathia what he's worth.
  18. are they still available? If so check you inbox I sent you a message
  19. Well now these shenanigans are costing Eric Hosmer, as MLB has ordered him to stop playing because his contract was actually sent it or signed after Alverez's was. To me, Alverez is being a complete jerk. You just got $6 million dollars, and you are still complaining. Now, his childish behavior is costing someone who has no business being involved. If I were Hosmer, I would drop Boras instantly because this is just further evidence he cares more about money than his clients.
  20. Im not really comcerned on how its refunded, but considering i had to take this money of out of my "saving for a house" fund, I am concerned about when they refund it. Anyone have any idea?
  21. Agent39...if you know for sure Cain isnt on the list, doenst that mean you know what the list is? If you don't know what the list is, how do you know Cain isnt on it?
  22. The question was...if you go to a bar or something, they have i believe 3 or 4 different games on, all on the Big Ten Network.....so like....The Big Ten Network will actually have 3 or 4 different channels showing 3 or 4 different games. I was wondering if that was the case here or if we only get one game at a time.
  23. For what its worth, I called TWC today and they dont know if we wil lget all the games or just one. I will be mad if we only get one game because the majority of games are on at the same time and its basically one extra game per weekend, which to me is no big deal, especially if its like Indiana or Minnesota. Plus, I am not a huge Badger fan but follow another Big 10 team (i'll keep that team to myself thankyou) and hope to watch all their games.
  24. Thats what I am hoping, although knowing Time Warner they'll find some way to screw this up. I'm also interested to see how much my bill goes up now. I really do hate Time Warner.
  25. Looks like the Big Ten Network finally agreed with Time Warner to get the channel. I think its about friggin time. My only question, for anyone who might know a little more about this.....the BTN plays a bunch of games at the same time, and I saw bars always played them all. Will we only get one game, or will we get all them on a couple of channels? (edit: added information to title to reflect Charter agreement --1992)
