  1. We found a guy that's hitting .207, has an on base slightly over .300 and strikes out every 2.6 at bats that we all pretend is good because he hits a lot of home runs. That's not very reassuring to me. This is the same discussion we have in the draft. Inevitably the argument about getting a player at a position of need always gets hijacked. Nobody has EVER suggested we take a player at a certain position just because he plays that position and we need help there. The argument is that if there are two players of almost identical value there's nothing wrong with taking the guy at the position of need. If they think Guzman can be a productive major league first basemen then I have no problem at all getting him. I personally prefer Mendez but then again I almost always prefer pitching. Ultimately I don't think it'll be either because I think we would have jumped all over either of them had they been offered. I'm sure it'll be a low level A baller who has a lot of upside.
  2. I'd rather have no AAA team then play two more seasons in Colorado Springs. That city shouldn't even have a team. The Rockies should be mandated to have Colorado Springs as an affiliate.
  3. I wonder if the Brewers are going to target a power hitter or two next draft. The system seems to lack a true power hitter. The ideal future outfield of Brinson, Phillips and Ray is probably only going to produce 35-45 home runs total. I don't see much elsewhere. Roache and Coulter maybe but who knows if they'll even hit well enough to make it.
  4. I'll probably catch a lot of heat for this and it's not directed at anyone in particular, but the term "lottery ticket" to describe a lower level minor leaguer with some upside that we would/should/could trade for. It seems like I can't go more than two posts without seeing this phrase. EVERYBODY is saying it! And it's a relatively new thing. It's like all of a sudden this is the trendy new phrase. Maybe it's because I automatically hate anything that is trendy but I can't help but get annoyed every time I see this phrase now.
  5. I forgot to ask. Are most coin dealers willing to negotiate or is their price their price?
  6. I think the biggest problem was not accepting the inevitable 3-4 years ago. We kept patching together a team that we thought we could compete only to see so-so results with aging players. Mark A. seemed to think fans wanted to see a .500ish team playing every day when in fact most fans wanted to start the rebuild earlier. I'm glad that we finally accepted how lousy our organization has become and started the process. Late is better than never. We've added Brinson, Bickford, Ortiz, Ray, Phillips, Diaz and Hader in the last year alone. That's a pretty good start.
  7. Great information thanks. I'll just look up coin dealers in my area and head over there. I appreciate it.
  8. What a fall for Coulter. My lord. It wasn't that long ago that he and Taylor were 2 of our top 3 prospects. I'd like to see Coulter move to first base. It wastes his arm but at this point does it really matter? I see zero future for him in the outfield and we still lack any real first base prospect.
  9. Love what they did today. Absolutely love it. Bickford and Ortiz are immediately our #2 and #3 best pitching prospects and Brinson is probably our #2 overall prospect. All guys in the top 75 overall in MLB prospect lists. Great moves. I read Brinson is a CF. Itll be interesting to see how pt is split between him and Phillips, and to a lesser extent Taylor (assuming Brinson goes to Biloxi) Overall though excellent moves by Stearns. And even though I liked Mejia I think for the second year in a row we benefitted from a trade being voided at the last minute.
  10. Simple question: What is the best way to go about selling gold coins? I have 2 coins I'd be interested in moving. One is an American Eagle coin containing 1/10 ounce gold and the other is a Canadian Maple Leaf coin containing 1/4 ounce gold. I'm just trying to figure out where the best place to sell them would be and how to make sure I'm getting a good deal. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience in this area? (I have a couple of Morgan silver dollars too but they aren't in the best shape)
  11. The Brewers need to start drafting better too. When your first round picks are Arnett, Jungmann, Bradley, Coulter, Roache and Medeiros you've got issues. I still have hope for Medeiros, along with Clark and Ray but we can't have so many first round busts. And the saddest thing is that most of them aren't injury related. The players just aren't good enough.
  12. On he flip side though he only has a 40 hit and 40 field tool. If he hits the ball it'll go a long way. But that's a big if. And I admit I know little about defensive statistics but if you take his career minor league fielding percentage at third base (.931) and compared it to major league third basemen who qualify to be be counted in 2016, he's ranked 21st out of 22. He's not Ryan Braun bad, but he's bad.
  13. Where are you getting those numbers from? His stats aren't even close to that. Russell Branyan was a career .232 hitter who struck out once every three plate appearances.
  14. So he wanted Cleveland to essentially pay him to accept the deal?
  15. Good way to turn the fan base against you. Express desire to play for a winner then when you get that opportunity make even more demands.
  16. Branyan was a top 30 prospect himself (29 in 1999 and 26 in 1998). That's not far off from Gallo's ranking. And until Gallo actually does something at the Major League level (.192/.287/.408 through 120 at bats while striking out over half the time) I'd hold off on just assuming he's going to be a quality major leaguer. Obviously he is still young and has a ton of upside but he's certainly far from a sure thing.
  17. I'm sorry but I just don't want Gallo. He just screams Russell Branyon to me.
  18. Yeah it's a business. And good business dictates you don't take unreasonable risks where the possible gain is far inferior to the possible loss. Let's say Lucroy plays all three games and the Brewers will all three. Awesome. They're still a bottom five team in the league. Now let's say he plays and gets hurt. Well there goes your opportunity to trade him. And God forbid it's another concussion. Is the chance slim? Sure. But again why even risk it? And It's ironic that you bring up the idea of not sitting guys at the end of the year when not sitting Lucory resulted in him getting hurt and possibly prevented him from being traded last offseason. Finally I highly doubt people are coming to these games specifically to watch Lucroy. But even so you don't, or shouldn't, pander to causal fans who don't understand the intricacies of the game. If people show up to MP and are pissed that Lucroy isn't playing three days before a deadline where all indications are that he will be traded then so be it.
  19. Why play him at all this year then? How far do we want to take this ridiculous argument? And yes something has changed. The date. We are now three days away from the deadline, not 30 days. The difference is not really the risk. The risk of him getting hurt is no different. The difference is the reasonableness of sitting him. Sitting him for three days is reasonable. Sitting him an entire month is not.
  20. This is a strawman. Nobody has suggested we sit him the entire month of July. But we're talking three days before the deadline. If he gets hurt you miss out on a potentially franchise changing trade. There is zero reason to risk it right now. But if you insist on playing him why not play him at first base at least?
  21. Everyone gives the Mets a hard time for what they did, and rightfully so. But THANK GOD that trade fell through. Melvin really, really lucked out. The return we got from Houston was ten times better than what we would have gotten from the Mets.
  22. Very disappointing year for Lopez but I'm still surprised to see him below Medeiros. Medeiros is having an awful year too. I'm also surprised to see Ray as the #37 overall prospect. Seems high to me I'm hoping we can add at least two or three guys to our top ten by Monday.
  23. I don't get it. How can you make the same mistake over and over and over and over again? I think the only viable explanation is that he cares more about his personal statistics then about doing what's best for the team. I mean seriously, trying to steal third with two out down by 5 and your best hitter at the plate? How do you explain that? Counsel should bench him immediately.
  24. At this point just let him play out the season the put him in Boloxi next year and see if he gets better. A third season in BC, you might as well just release him. The Brewers recent first round draft picks have been bad. I still have hope for Clark and Ray but we need to do much, much better.
  25. In fairness to Trent Clark he was in HS a little over a year ago. And he tore up Arizona last year. I'm not worried about him yet. Ray has only been playing professionally a few weeks. And he's gotten better after an incredibly slow start. Medeiros on the other hand has looked awful. I really, really wish they would have taken Grant Holmes instead.
