  1. Any legitimate offer you get will be better than a comp pick at the end of the first round. Even a bad return should net you a organizational top 5 prospect. That is almost certainly going to be better than one pick in the 30s or 40s. A likely return will be one good prospect plus one or two with potential. I'll take that ten times out of ten vs taking a comp pick.
  2. I was going to say something about this. The species was Bothans. But that quote was actually from ROTJ, so that had to have been stealing the plans fir the second Death Star. Still, this trailer does show revel pilots being led away with their hands on their heads so I'm sure there has to be a failed attempt in there somewhere
  3. Trailer for Rogue One is out. I have to admit it looks pretty sweet. I didn't have much excitement for it but now I may be getting my hopes up a bit. I really hope Vader makes an appearance.
  4. Yeah I'm disappointed that a top of the rotation pitcher is not likely to be available at 5 (this, along with things like Lucroys conclusion is why I root for veterans to sit towards the end of a lost season). I'll just have a hard time getting excited for yet another outfielder or shortstop. But, I do agree you take BPA unless two players are so close. Either way we should get a very talented player at 5.
  5. So Kalisto and Zack Ryder are champions. Guess we can forget about them building the secondary belts up. That's always been a huge pet peeve of mine, that and the refusal to build up the tag team division.
  6. Little surprised to see both Taylor and Phillips repeating. Are the Brewers being too safe/passive with their roster assignments?
  7. If the Cubs pay even slightly more than the next team then we should take the offer. The whole "teams in your division have to pay more" thing is silly to me. If we were in a position to compete with the Cubs we wouldn't be trading Lucroy I the first place. By the time we are in a position to compete with Chicago Lucroy will either be gone or likely beginning a decline due to age.
  8. Except that that is how the system works. And he knows that is how it works. I'm sure he'll be ok with the very same system in a few years when he's making $15 million a year to play baseball. Or at the end of his career when he'll be completely overvalued because some team is desperate for a pitcher. I'm sorry but I have zero sympathy for pro athletes. Zero. Even at a league minimum they make SO MUCH money that any complaint comes off to me as petty.
  9. Boo Hoo. It still takes the average person 10 years or more to earn what he's earning in one, despite being "underpaid". It just amazes me how out of touch pro athletes continue to be. Maybe he should set up a Gofundme page for himself. I couldn't imagine having to survive off if $600k a year.
  10. What difference does it make if he throws 102 or 140 if he can't throw strikes? Beside, I highly doubt he'll be throwing that hard when he turns pro. In order to learn control he'll have to take something off. Don't get me wrong. I won't be upset if he's our pick. I'm just a little skeptical of these super hard throwing little ability to control it pitchers.
  11. He's got some control issues doesn't he? I'd prefer to stay from the hard throwing no control type guys. We didn't have much luck with Jones Rogers or Jeffress. I'm desperately hoping Groom falls but that's looking unlikely.
  12. At this point I think the Brewers best option is to take the best offer they can get for Lucroy before the season starts. I say this because I think the trades of Davis and Segura have taken away any hope at all of even being a somewhat decent team. I don't think Lucroys value can get any higher but I do think it can get a heck of a lot lower. Another slow start or injury and the return will shrink. And God forgive he gets another concussion because if that happens the return will be next to nothing. One of my biggest criticisms of Doug Melvin was that he missed the window of opportunity to maximize a players return too often. Lucroy is the last player we have who we can expect a significant return for. I'd hate to see us miss that chance. I know Stearns is looking for a home run on the return for Lucroy. Right now is settle for a triple, or maybe even a double with the runner thinking about third, than to risk a single or strikeout by holding onto him too long. He's not going to be motivated this year because he's not in a contract year and he knows the Brewers aren't going to win. So really the only thing he'd be playing for is to increase his trade value and quite honestly would he even care what his trade value is?
  13. By the end of this year we should begin seeing guys who are a part of the future. Arcia obviously. Santana. Phillips. Probably Lopez. Maybe Hader. Maybe Taylor. Maybe Reed. Really this year should be the worst of it. We just have to hope guys in AA and below (Coulter, Harrison, Clark, Gatewood, Medeiros, Lara, etc.) progress the way we need them to. But this shouldn't be a situation where it takes four seasons to see progress, especially if we get a good haul for Lucroy.
  14. That's not exactly accurate. As someone who participated in that thread I can't necessarily say I was rooting for them to lose. I was just unhappy with how they refused to sit veterans a few times a week. And I think looking at what's happened since then I can say "I told you so". First off I wanted them to sit Lucroy more often. They didn't and what happens? He gets a concussion and doesn't catch again. Then I wanted them to give someone like Smith or Jeffress to get some experience closing games. They didn't. Now KRod is gone is the two leading loser candidates go into the season with zero closing experience. Then you see guys like Jason Groom taking off but realize that the more he, or other draft prospects for that matter, take off the less likely it is we get a chance to draft them. Like I said I didn't want them to "tank". I just wanted them to realizing keeping your best players healthy and giving young guys opportunities is more important than wins at that point. In regards to the draft the two changes id like to see: 1) International draft. Whether it's a separate draft altogether or all players are included in one draft but it needs to happen 2) A hard cap in draft spending. I don't care how it's done but I'd like to see it done.
  15. If you held a gun to my head and made me pick I'd say have pitchers hit. I get annoyed by career DH's who make $15 million a year doing nothing but hitting four times a game and it adds a ton of strategy. But most importantly I want it to be the same in both leagues. I think the AL has a huge advantage by having a DH. Think about all the moves we've had to make bc we don't have a DH. All the trades to make room for a prospect. The position shuffling in the minors because guys have to be competent somewhere. The guys you don't pursue in free agency because his position is already covered. Having a spot for someone to hit but not field is a huge advantage in terms of roster building and it needs to be fixed.
  16. Look at what we originally got for Gomez. That return was almost universally hated. Like the Gomez deal maybe we should consider adding a piece. Personally I'd look at including Peralta. He's so inconsistent and it's looking like he might not meet his potential. It'd be risky but it should improve the return rather significantly. We have enough arms to throw in the rotation until we're ready to compete.
  17. I think the Brewers would make a mistake not moving Lucroy. Awhile ago I was on the fence but Stearns' moves so far indicate he has no illusions of competing this year. The longer you hang to Lucroy the lower his value becomes, and if he sustains another concussion you can probably forget about trading him. Obviously don't trade him just to trade him but also don't overestimate his value. The Brewers still have huge organizational holes at catcher, first base and third base and could always use more high ceiling arms. The proposals I see around here seem reasonable enough. Personally I'd like to see Tate and Ortiz come back as part of deal with Texas.
  18. People are grouping all chants and taunts into one category. That's the big problem here. Chanting "air ball" is not the same as yelling "nice shot loser". I'm all for punishing kids for legitimate insults. The problem is that the examples the WIAA cited are not even close to legitimate insults. That's why there is such wide spread reaction. This IS a wussification of society because the WIAA is going way too far. Had they simply said "refrain from using personal insults, abusive language and swear words during games" nobody would even be talking about this. But they took to a level that quite honestly included G-rated chants and that's why they are catching so much slack for this.
  19. That's all good and well.....for the coach. Or the parent. But you can't expect the opposing teams fans to positively reinforce a players good intention. Their job is to try to help their team win by cheering them and motivating them and, yes, chanting and booing and getting under the skin of the other teams players. Fans don't chant air ball because they have something against that player personally. They do it because they want to remind the player that he or she screwed up, which will ideally make that person play worse and help their team win.
  20. Im not saying these chants should be allowed because it teaches kids mental toughness. Im just saying that teenagers shouldn't have to constantly be shielded from every little thing that might hurt their feelings. Doing that does more harm than good. By this age they should already have the mental toughness to get through this without having to go to therapy. We are talking about HS athletes here. If someone was yelling "air ball" at a 6 year old playing little person basketball then yeah I'd have a problem with that. But we're talking about high school kids here. These kids by now are playing sports more so because they enjoy/are good at it and not because their parents make them so they can get some exercise, meet new people and/or see if they enjoy it like you do with little kids. And like I said most of these chants are rather tame. "Air ball". "You can't do that". "We can't hear you". Come on. Do you really have to "protect" a teenager from that? I feel sorry for any teenager that can't get over that because they are going to have a rough go at it when they grow up. Again, actual insults I'm not cool with. But discouraging chants like this is ridiculous.
  21. How is shouting "air ball" or "you can't do that" an insult? If someone shoots an air ball and the crowd starts chanting "You are fat! You are fat!" then we can talk. Also, having been to many HS boys basketball games over the years I can pretty much guarantee 500 people don't chant. More like 50 maybe. And it lasts all of ten seconds. I stand by my comment. All rules like this accomplish is preventing teenagers from learning how to deal with situations in which someone dares to not treat them like a delicate little flower.
  22. This is pathetic. Seriously. And we wonder why kids can't deal with failure or stress anymore? Why don't we just ban scorekeeping because when you keep score someone loses and their feelings might be hurt. I played a lot of sports growing up. Whenever I lost or did something stupid it motivated me to try harder next time so it didn't happen again. We are slowly making that unnecessary now by eliminating as many opportunities to fail as possible. And no that's not a good thing. Kids have to learn how to deal with and overcome failure and mocking and things that show them they aren't always precious little kittens who can do no wrong.
  23. I got two talking Bob Uecker/Harry Doyle bobbles on Major League night last year, right in the middle of when I was moving. I packed them away and kind of forgot about them until I came across them just now. Anyway I'm looking to sell them asi don't collect bobbles anymore. Anyone interested? They are both in good shape and come with box. To be honest I don't even know what avoid asking price is. On EBay they seem be range from $70 down to about $40. I can even go little lower just to get rid of them. Any interest? If not maybe even a suggestion as to where the best place other than EBay to sell them and a good asking price?
  24. I read one theory that Rey was actually related to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Something about her fighting style and how it was Ewan McGregors voice that spoke to her. I forget the entirety of the theory but it made sense.
  25. I think the original trilogy established that people can use the force without little or no training. Yeah but using it is different than dominating someone who is as knowledgeable and skilled in the force as Kylo Ren apparently is. When Luke first fought Vader in ESB, even with a fair amount of Jedi training Vader was just toying with him. So if Rey can defeat Ren with no apparent training, or even the small amount she would have received as a Padawan under Luke, how could Ren be considered a viable threat to either Rey when she does have more advanced training or Luke himself? Kylo Ren himself would need to significantly improve his training and skills to defeat them. I just thought it made him look weak. And for what it's worth I think you guys are right about her being a sibling of Kylo. That seems like a very plausible scenario. Her memories of her parents leaving were actually Han and Leis leaving to protect her from Kylo. Perhaps Kylo thought he killed her with the rest of the students.
