  1. They don't even need to up it, they just need to enforce it. I'm not saint, but I'm sick of having a drunken group of 20 somethings using the f word 5,000 times an inning. Couldn't agree more. I went to a game with my g/f last year. I always sit in my assigned seats, at least until later on in the game when it's clear certain seats aren't going to be taken. So we sit in our assigned seats. About an inning later three college kids come and grab the seats behind us.....obviously not theirs. One dude was ok but the other two were about as obnoxious as you can get. They were talking very graphically about females and what they do (or claimed they do) They were also eating peanuts and the shells were constantly landing on us. At one point I picked up a shell and turned around and threw it onto the ground and said "no thanks we already have some". My g/f didn't want me to say anything to them. After that they were obviously talking smack about me but I didn't bother to give them the time of day. But it ruined the entire game for us. Just obnoxious. Had there been an usher there I would have told him but of course there wasn't. As others have siad, I've been drunk at a game too. But never this obnoxious.
  2. I think first and foremost you start with Greinke. He's the guy that will get you the most. If he keeps pitching like he has he can get you another team's top prospect. Go for quality over quantity. I floated the idea of Greinke for Profar before. That is the type of talent I'd ask back for him. The advantage we have with Greinke is that he'll get us draft picks if he leaves. All we have to do is offer him that one year deal which the Brewers will no doubt do. Then I trade Marcum. He's been successul enough the past two seasons that he'll get you a decent return. I wouldn't demand pitching back for him because if you ask for a hitter you'll probably get a better player. Then I trade K-Rod. The fact is he's gone after this year and if you don't trade him you get nothing. Trade him for whatever you can get. Then the other guys I look to trade are Hart and Weeks, but I'd only trade one. Hart probably has more value. The Brewers, I think, blew it by not trading him to Atlanta a few years ago. He's getting up there in age and he's definitely replaceable. If you can send to him Atlanta and get a Delgado or a Teheran back I say do it (Or Vizcaino, but he may be hurt???). Weeks may be a little harder to replace in the short term, though Taylor Green could probably fill in until Gennett is ready. However I don't want to trade them both because I think that would be too much to lose. Finally Axford. I think you definitely float his name around and see if you can get someone to overpay. Teams have been paying free agent closers a ton of money. If they can get someone as effective and cheap as Axford I think they'd jump on it. But his trade value decreases each year. Last year was probably his peak, though obviously they weren't going to trade him last year. If you can get a pitching prospect that can be a solid #2 or #3 then I say go for it. If we trade Greinke, Marcum, K-Rod, Hart, and Axford I have to imagine we'd get enough back to prevent the full fledged rebuild.
  3. Is there ANY talk about expanding to 32 and finally doing the divisions the right way (like the NFL) 8 four team divisions? Don't answer because I know the answer is no, just a pipe dream. Increase to 32, drop to 154 games have 6 teams from each league make the playoffs and finally make a decision on the DH.
  4. Peralta struggled again last night. His control has taken step back this year. 22 walks in 42 innings. Not good. I think Thornburg is closer than ever to claiming that top spot.
  5. I always thought Portland would be great but I wonder how much support they'd have now that they have an MLS team. Their fans seem to have really taken in the soccer team. If it were strictly up to me I'd pick San Antonio, Oklahoma City or Indianapolis. It'd be cool to have all 3 Texas teams in the AL West. I wouldn't mind a team in NC but then they'd have to juggle around the divisions. Same with Indy.
  6. Well that's true and I agree. But they all fall in line, according to the rankings at least, with where we are picking. I'd be willing to reach just a tad for a position of need (for instance if you rank Player A #25 and he's an outfielder and you rank Player B #28 but he's a shortstop I'd be ok picking player B). I'd also be willing to pick Russell a bit higher if he can stay at shortstop and Strahan if he can stay at catcher because finding quality players at those positions is so much harder than finding a quality outfielder. Overall I agree with the best player available DHonks but I am willing to make just a few small adjustments to it. I was just wondering about those specific players though because they fit in line with our needs and appear like they may amongst the best players available when we pick.
  7. I was going over BA's top 100 and I wanted to ask about a few players that may be around for the Brewers picks. Addison Russell- Can he stay at SS and will he make it to #27? Joey Gallo - Can he stay at 3B? Stryker Trahan - Can he stay at C? I doubt the Brewers would be able to get all three of them but is it reasonable to hope for two of them? Unless of course all three are destined for the outfield. Milwaukee really needs infielders. At the college level, what about Roache or Piscotty? Are they legitimate targets who are likely to be around when Milwaukee picks? Also BA lists Trey Williams all the way down at #99 overall. Is there any chance he could make it to our 2nd round pick? http://www.baseballamerica.com/today/draft/draft-preview/2012/2613410.html
  8. Burgos is the kind of guy you throw out there if you have absolutely nobody else to throw out there and your team is going nowhere. Think Chris Saenz type move. As it stands, there are probably about 4 guys I'd promote to start a game before I even considered Burgos.
  9. Just for the sake of discussion......is Wily Peralta still the #1 pitching prospect in the system? I think a real case could be made for Tyler Thornburg.
  10. Well apparently he was just promoted to Huntsville. Let's hope he can keep up the success.
  11. Bottom line, Greinke is a bonafide ace... 100% (unless he gets hurt). In my view, you don't trade someone like that for basically a coinflip, unless you are hopelessly out of the race AND have no chance at extending Grienke. I fail to see a legit reason that the Brewers can't do the latter. So instead they let him walk so they can win what, 4 more games this year? If those 4 games are the difference between the playoffs and no playoffs then you keep him. But with the injuries and the lack of production we're seeing....something is going to have to majorly change for me to believe this team is a playoff team. I like Greinke as much as the next guy and really wish he'd re-sign, but at some point you need to be real. If he is going to leave, and Melvin will have a better idea about that than anyone of us, and you aren't going to make the playoffs then you'd be dumb not to trade him. Milwaukee has got to start maximizing the value of the some of their players. If Milwaukee doesn't make these trades then it is likely that over a two year period Milwaukee will have lost Fielder, Greinke, Marcum, and KRod and gotten nothing more than 4 draft picks in return. You can't sustain a franchise like that. Now, if the Brewers are 9.5 games out in mid July and Grienke demands a trade or something, I'll do that deal yesterday. I don't think anyone really disagrees with this. I'd use the more official all-star break which is early-mid July but it's essentially the same thing. I'd say if Milwaukee is 8 or more games out by the all-star break we start listening to offers for Greinke, Marcum, KRod, Weeks, and Hart. Not saying you trade all of them, just listen to offers and take the good deals.
  12. You only moved up 1 pitcher from AA to AAA, who takes the rotation slot Nelson or Burgos? I would say both and and bump someone else to the pen. Someone like Merklinger or RJ Seidl.
  13. I do think he needs to move up to Huntsville because of his age and BC's plethora of starters. Let's start with that. Gagnon to BC and Hall into the BC rotation Burgos and Nelson to Huntsville Thornburg and Wooten to Nashville That's what I'd like to see.
  14. Getting some picks by trading away players might be an ok consolation prize, but its never a "good thing" to miss a decent shot at the playoffs... What I meant was that the injuries may make it more likely to trade away the guys that are going to walk away anyway. I only say it because the team, while they may have the potential, look nothing like a playoff team. And that's not just because of the injuries. Lack of depth is a huge part of it. It's nice to get comp picks but let's be realistic which would you rather have? The 27th and 38th picks (like you got for Fielder) or a shortstop who is already in AA and is considered a top prospect? The Brewers need a lot of help. I understand that nobody wants to go into a rebuilding mode but trading these guys may actually prevent the rebuilding mode, or certainly help make it go by quicker.
  15. Texas looks like the real deal this season and I wonder if they'd be interested in an upgrade from Matt Harrison. Is there any chance Jurickson Profar could be had for Greinke? Elvis Andrus is still under contract for 2 more years so it's not like they are hurting at shortstop. Milwaukee desperately needs a shortstop and Profar would be a huge upgrade over anyone in their entire system. He probably won't be ready until 2014 but he is top 10 prospect. Is this a fair deal? Maybe we could even include KRod in the deal considering their closer has an ERA over 11? Then of course we'd have to ask for more. But assuming the Brewers are still struggling at the break is Texas a team we can strike a deal with and finally walk away with a shortstop?
  16. The City of Milwaukee really blew it by letting Miller Park be built where it was. While it may have been inconvenient for out of town fans, a downtown stadium would have been a tremendous boost to businesses and even housing and office buildings downtown. If they allow a new arena to be built anywhere but downtown they should all be recalled.
  17. The only events the BC would get are maybe UWM games and Wave games and they don't draw enough people for the 18,000 seat BC. Concerts and events aren't going to want to go to the BC. I would bet the Admirals would stay as well. The BC was built for hockey. A new arena will be built for basketball. The Admirals would probably be better off staying in the BC because it will cost a lot less and it's better setup for hockey.
  18. Regarding the US Cellular Arena. If a new arena gets built the Cell needs to go. No reason at all to have three arenas in a city with one professional sports team. UWM, who should build an on campus arena anyway, can go to the BC even if Marquette stays. So can the Wave. The Cell should be torn down and the Frontier Airlines Center should be expanded so it can hold larger conventions, like a Republican or Democratic National Convention. It would be great for Milwaukee to get a convention like that. It would also help lead to another hotel development at the land the city wants a hotel to be built on (W. Wisconsin Ave between 4th and 5th St) Someone needs to take charge of this project, someone who realizes that a new downtown arena is not just the project, it's the first step in a much larger project.
  19. I think the most important thing is for Milwaukee not to panic and overpay for an average veteran shortstop just so they can stay within reach of the division for a little while longer. Believe it or not all these injuries may end up being a good thing. If KRod and Marcum are still on this team at the end of the year they will lose them both without getting anything in return. If instead they trade them you'd figure they could get at least two good prospects. Greinke would net draft picks if he leaves but if traded he could land a top prospect, maybe even a Profar type prospect. Teams may overpay for Corey Hart as well. I just hope they maximize the value of some of the guys they have as opposed to patching together a .500 team and letting their pending free agents leave for nothing.
  20. Milwaukee, like many cities, is a winning town. Bring a winner and it will succeed./i] A new arena will definitely help the Bucks succeed and sustain the success. I think much like Miller Park, a new arena will fill seats, bring in revenue, and help bring in free agents. It will buy the Bucks a year or two before they have to win or risk losing fans. I guess unlike the Brewers though, fans could probably see the new arena without seeing the Bucks. I assume either Marquette or the Admirals or both will also play at the new arena.
  21. The Bucks need two things to succeed. A new arena and a new GM. On its face alone I couldn't care less if the Bucks leave. I've been to one game in the past 7 years and rarely follow them. But Milwaukee as a whole needs them. A lot of businesses in the area benefit from them and it would hard for them if the Bucks leave. Plus, I mean it's gotta do something for the tourism aspect of this city doesn't it??? The Brewers were in the same boat. Without Miller Park they'd be gone by now. The decision that was made was the right decision. Like I said before, if Milwaukee could get an NHL team I'd say goodbye to the Bucks tomorrow. I think and NHL team would succeed much more in this city than an NBA team because the NHL seems like more of a blue collar sport and Milwaukee is definitely more of a blue collar town. But that doesn't appear to be happening anytime soon. Actually, I doubt it will ever happen as long the new team would have to play in the BC. So if the only options are new arena and a 0.1% sales tax increase or no NBA team, I'd rather take the sales tax and new arena. Now if only Kohl would do something about that GM.
  22. I'd just rather see Hart at 1st and Aoki in either right or center. Aoki needs a long look so we can see what we have in him. No reason to sign Russel Branyon and play him over Aoki. I do like giving Taylor Green a shot. I'd probably rather see Green at third and Ramirez at first but I realize you can't just put Ramirez at a position he's never played before in the middle of the season.
  23. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/bucks/kohl-says-the-time-is-now-for-a-new-arena-sq59ifg-150185605.html For the first time Herb Kohl said he'd be willing to help finance a new arena. I think this is very positive news, though he'll probably have to donate more than the $25 million he did for the Kohl Center for anyone to get excited about it. A new arena will probably cost at least $300 million dollar and probably closer to $400 million. I live in Milwaukee and even though I'm not a huge fan of the Bucks I'd have no problem keeping the Miller Park sales tax around to fund a new arena for the Bucks. One tenth or one percent is barely even noticeable but without an arena within 10 years the Bucks are gone. I personally would prefer an NHL team but I don't think that's going to happen so Milwaukee would do well to keep the Bucks. Hopefully Kohl is serious about his financial commitment.
  24. Actually, in 2014 it'd be a "nice core" with Braun, Gallardo & Lucroy. Hart is signed through 2013. Are you advocating extending Hart in a "rebuild"? Ramirez should not be counted on to be top-flight in 2014. Gonzalez would be 37 years old in 2014. I do like some of our prospects in the minors, and I'm not saying I have all the answers, plus of course it really depends on who we get back in these trades but I'm not sure we need to trade away every player outside of Braun & Lucroy & Gallardo I was talking about 2013. You are talking about 2014. What I was getting at is even if we make some trades we won't be horrible next year. Not 1998 type horrible at least. Our core still includes Hart and Ramirez as major parts of it. And I didn't suggest trading every player other than those three. I suggested if the return is good enough you can trade Weeks, Hart or Axford. Not all three. But you're right, of the three Hart probably makes the most sense. The major part of my plan includes trading 4 guys (Marcum, Morgan, KRod, and Greinke) none of who are likely to be back next season anyway. All I am saying is that instead of keeping them and settling for third place and a .500 record, trade them to help improve the future.
  25. Someone in Brevard County needs to be promoted and Brooks Hall should be starting games.
