  1. I’m obviously not making my point clearly enough. I don’t care if they bring him up and stick him in bullpen if it’s a long term move (long term being at least 6-7 weeks). I disagree that we need to start limiting his innings in June but whatever. I also disagree that this move has anything to do with getting him major league coaching but again whatever. And finally given that we are currently in a tight battle for first place now isn’t the time to worry about getting our prospects “experience”. That’s what September is for. My issue stems from (admittedly an assumption) the fact that if this does indeed happen he will likely spend a short time in Milwaukee’s bullpen and then go back to the rotation in CS. And it wouldn’t surprise me in the least bit if they then bring him back to Milwaukee’s bullpen if he pitches ok only to send him back down to the CS rotation. It’s what they do. I don’t like it. Others can disagree but I don’t think doing that it is in the best interest of the player. I think you either a) keep him in CS until/unless we need someone to start a game or b) bring him up and put him in the bullpen with the understanding that that’s where he’ll be for the remainder or the majority or the remainder of the year.
  2. If that were true we’d already have Syndergaard
  3. I don’t know. How? My point was not going from Milwaukee to CS and back. My point was going from starter to reliever back to starter back to reliever. As I said, it’s one thing to bring up a starter and throw him in the bullpen and keep him there. It’s another to constantly shuffle him between the rotation and the bullpen. People keep bringing up the Cardinals. I don’t follow the Cardinals. I don’t know if they constantly shuffle their young guys between the rotation and the bullpen or if they simply bring up starters and put them in the pen for awhile. But as I said this was done to both Thornburg and (Wily) Peralta, two our better starting pitching prospects in the last decade, and it seemed to affect them both negatively. Peraltas numbers got significantly worse that year and Thornburg ended up getting hurt. I don’t know if was just a coincidence but what’s the point of risking it? Corbin Burnes is far and away one of our two best starting pitching prospects. He’s viewed as a starter down the road. As I said I just don’t see point of doing this right now. Do we have no better relief options? (Nick Ramirez anyone)? If you want to simply get his feet wet because he’s pitching so well in CS (he’s not really) and have no better options, then fine bring him up. But keep him in the bullpen and let him get used to going shorter stints for more games. Dont keep flipping him back and forth. How does that help his development?
  4. It absolutely drives me nuts how the Brewers jerk around their top pitching prospects. It’d be one thing if they called up Burnes and had him pitch out of the bullpen the rest of the season. But history tells me they’ll have him come up for a little bit, pitch a game or two, move him back down to CS and have him start, then bring him back up to pitch out of the pen, then send him back to CS to start. They’ve been doing that with Woodruff. They did it with Peralta awhile ago and it seemed like it set him back. They did it with Thornburg and he ended up getting hurt. Why can’t they just let their starters start? Are there really so few bullpen options that there isn’t a better choice than Burnes?
  5. And that’s goig to all of a sudden make them into a contender? They can’t just keep signing players for $200 million contracts. A good argument for the Mets to sell is this: They may very well feel they aren’t going anywhere with what they currently have. Much like we weren’t going anywhere with Gomez and Lucroy. So rather than continuing to play subpar baseball with Degrom and Syndergaard they could trade them both for an absolute haul of major league ready prospects to go along with their young talent and hopefully prevent a five year rebuild after two more years of average to below average baseball while simultaneously lessening their return for their pitchers by trading them with only a year or half a year left of control vs two or three years. I’m not saying this is what they are thinking but it’s certainly one way to go.
  6. You’re kind of contradicting yourself here. You mention the Mets would be insane to trade them but also then say there’s a distinct possibility Syndergaard blows out his arm. If the Mets think there’s a decent chance he blows out his arm then they’d be insane NOT to trade him. The upside for the Mets is the hope that the package of players they get in return ends up being more valuable then the two guys they give up. I know it wasn’t prospects and it was a long time ago but remember when Milwaukee traded Richie Sexson to Arizona? None of the guys they got were as good as Sexson and some of them bombed. But overall the package probably ended up helping Milwaukee more than Sexson would have. That’s the hope when you trade a star player for multiple prospects.
  7. Let’s not forget the Mets have SOME risk too. Neither Degrom nor Syndergaard have been the picture of health and of happens to go down with a significant injury, or even a series of small injuries that causes them to continue to miss starts, teams are going to start getting a little more hesitant to trade the farm for them. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not suggesting the risk is all that great to the point where the Mets need to move then as soon as possible but it is something to consider.
  8. I just don’t see the Mets accepting an offer without Hiura. And given that Hiura is our only elite position prospect I’d have a hard time giving him up. And that means something given how big an advocate I am about obtaining a TOR rotation pitcher. It’s just a shame that the organization has dropped the ball with so many recent early round picks. Coulter. Clark. Roache. To a lesser extent Gatewood and Ray. We need to hit on our first rounders. That being said, if we can get New York to accept a package built around Burnes and Peralta we have to do it don’t we?
  9. Moving on...... I think Hiura might be the best bat this organization has seen since Ryan Braun. He doesn’t have quite the power but man can that dude hit. He could realistically have an impact on the Brewers this year if they need him to. He might be moving towards “untouchable” territory for me. Hopefully he can at least provide adequate defense so it doesn’t diminish his overall value.
  10. I don’t mean to get in the middle of this but he made it awfully clear he would have been there had he been paid for it. I don’t blame him for not being there but if you’re going to make it clear you’d have been there had you been paid for it don’t try to come up with all these other reasons for not being there.
  11. Atlanta though has a lot more than Acuna. MLB.com has them with 5 additional players, all pitchers no less, in their top 50. It would actually be a very wise move for them to send two of them to NY for either Degrom or Syndergaard because surely some of them will eventually lose some value. It might also help the Brewers if NYM trades both of their pitchers and Atlanta gives up some pitching prospects for one of them because maybe then the Metropolitans would be more likely to accept positional prospects like Ray and Phillips as secondary pieces as opposed to Burns or Peralta. I wonder if Hiura, Ray, Phillips and maybe a lesser pitcher like Ponce or Dilplan would be enough. Probably depends on how the Mets view Ray. Let’s look at the overall hypothetical picture for the Mets: They trade Syndergaard and Degrom and acquire, hypothetically: Allard, Soroka, Toussaint, Hiura, Ray, Phillips and Diplan. Enough?
  12. If I decided I’d be ok moving Hiura, which I’m hesitant to do, I’d make an offer of something like Hiura, Burnes or Peralta (they can pick) then Phipps and Lara. Obviously Hiura and Burnes are the headliners. Phillips is the major league ready piece and Lara is the talented “lottery ticket” as everyone likes to say. I’d consider Ray as opposed to Phillips if they preferred because he just hasn’t shown me much yet but I’d prefer to give up Phillips I think.
  13. Oh come on. The guy has a sub 3 career ERA over close to 800 innings and may be the leading NL Cy Young candidate right now. On top of that we’d not only get him for the rest of this year but all of next year and all of the year after that. The Mets should not only expect to get Hiura and Burnes but should also, rightfully, expect to get more. Burnes ceiling is nowhere near that of Degrom and he’s done all of nothing in the major leagues yet. I’d be hesitant to trade Hiura just because we seem to lack very many high ceiling prospects right now, particularly positional prospects, and because he seems like the real deal. But you can’t acquire a talent like Degrom or Syndergaard with a bunch of mid level prospects. As far as teams that could match what we could offer: The Braves for sure could. Hell Atlanta probably has enough to get them both if they wanted. I think if things really came down to it they’d be our top competition, though they might have to pay a little more being in the same division as the Mets.
  14. The Mets are going to demand Hiura to begin. And probably Burns. We have to decide if we’re willing to part with those two plus some.
  15. The more I think about it the more I seriously wonder if Hiura would be an option later on in the season. You could shift Villar to SS. I realize the defense would suffer mightily but Arcia has been absolutely horrible at the plate this year. Even if Hiura only hits .250-.260ish it’s still be a pretty significant upgrade offensively.
  16. I’m not. I’m just saying I hope we make a move for them if they’re available as opposed to settling for “depth”. If we don’t have enough we don’t have enough. Doesn’t mean we can’t try. That’s probably a move I’d make. The outfield is set for years to come with so Ray is definitely expendable. Hiura would hurt but even moving Burnes and Peralta wouldn’t kill us as we would still have some decent prospects in Ortiz, Zach Brown, Woodruff, etc. Degrom gives you something you haven’t since Zack Greinke.
  17. Last year the Brewers had a pretty decent shot at making the playoffs, up 5 1/2 games at the break. Stearns more or less stood pat and the Brewers eventually fell out of contention. This year the team is even better but still has a few glaring weaknesses. If they stand pat again and miss the playoffs again I kind of wonder if Stearns is being too passive. I understand the need not to empty out the system completely but at some point you need to fill your holes with talented players and not just depth. I hope he makes a serious run at either Degrom or Syndergaard because I think that would help us out the most.
  18. I’d stay away from Directv Now. They’ve shown either zero interest or zero ability to fix the same problems that they’ve had since they started. Tonight my tv is basically unwatchable because it stops to buffer literally every minute. And when you chat with their customer service they offer the same tired troubleshooting tips which don’t work. They recently rolled out an update and now the “guide” portion takes a anywhere from thirty seconds to two or three minutes to load the shows. And you can’t select the channel until it loads so even though you know what you want to watch you can’t actually watch it until the guide loads. I wanted to complain again tonight but since my wait time was 27 minutes, after already waiting ten minutes, I decided to say screw it. Literally my laziness in finding a new tv package is the only reason I still have DirectvNow. What a crappy product. Oh and they STILL don’t offer CBS as a live station in the Milwaukee area.
  19. I don’t really see the point of adding yet another mid to back end starter. That’s all this team really has. I’d rather see them go big or go with what they have, rotation wise.
  20. I never said were one piece away. But the starting pitching is more a need than a “cheap rental bat”. I’m not sure what type of player or even what position is being considered for that type of acquisition but we’ll have to give up something to get that as well. Neither Syndergaard nor Degrom would be half season rentals. So even if Nelson comes back to be our best pitcher, which is a huge if, we still have I believe three seasons with Degrom and four with Syndergaard to continue winning. I’d rather go into the playoffs with a legitimate #1 type pitcher who can pitch two or three times over a seven game series than to hope we outslug everyone else. You miss my point. I understand the Mets want to maximize their value. But common sense would dictate that teams trading with them for one of their aces are intent on winning now and would therefore not be interested in giving back players that are contributing significantly right now. It’s the same reason why the Mets wouldn’t expect to get Shaw or Yelich or Cain back in a trade. Also, who is to say that teams with top five in all of baseball prospects are even interested in giving up those players? If the Mets offered up their guts right now I’d bet half the teams in Major League Baseball wouldn’t even be interested. So we’re not competing with teams who have top five prospects. We’re competing with teams who are interested. And yeah we may not have the ammo to get it done. But that doesn’t mean we’d trade someone like Hader instead. It doesn’t make any sense and I think the Mets know that.
  21. The problem is this team isn’t a cheap rental bat away from being a legitimate World Seties contender. I just shutter to think of going into the playoffs with Chacin as our best starting pitcher. As far as the insistence Hader has to be included I don’t see it. Hader is not a young prospect anymore. He’s a very important piece to the current team. Why would the Mets expect us to give up possibly our most valuable pitcher when we are clearly in win now mode? We have plenty of good, major league or near major league prospects to offer. Whether or not they are good enough is the question.
  22. Count me in for one of the two. I actually don’t even care which. I think the Degrom/Syndergaard type pitcher is exactly what we’ve been missing the last few years. Yeah it would further empty out the system but given how the team is currently out together, with almost all of their key players under control for a few more years, it would buy us some time to start building up the system again. They just have to start hitting on their first round picks. My offer would include: Ray, Burnes, Woodruff or Peralta, Phillips or Broxton, and Gatewood or Lara. I’d really like to hang onto Hiura but if the Mets insist on him I’d reorganize my offer to something like Hiura, Ray, Phillips/Broxton, and Woodruff/Peralta.
  23. https://247sports.com/college/illinois/Article/Illinois-Fighting-Illini-athletics-director-Josh-Whitman-increasingly-confident-in-adding-Division-I-hockey-program-118843301 Article on the possibility of the U of Illinois getting a Divison One men’s hockey team. This would be great news for the Big Ten.
  24. I wouldn’t exactly say Ray is “tearing up” the Southern League. He’s hitting .250 with a pretty decent OPS. But really I think one of the big reasons people are so excited about his year so far is because how awful he’s been up until this point.
  25. Come on toolsy outfielder! Come on toolsy outfielder! In all seriousness the Brewers NEVER pick who I want them too but I’d really like to add another high upside starting pitcher.
