  1. Does anyone remember if options can be burned anymore in September? In previous years, when the whole 40-man could be called up in September, it was easy to prevent an option from being burned as long as the option was still intact on September 1st, but things may be harder this year for guys like Miguel Sanchez and Justin Topa. If those guys remain optioned into September, would they burn their options or does September time not count toward that? I ask because I thought I remembered that might've been the case but haven't been able to find anything to back that up. My guess is at least one of those two guys will remain optioned for the rest of the season, so I'll have to keep an eye on that.
  2. Haven't seen this confirmed anywhere else, any guesses? Could maybe be they extended a player like Adames or Burnes? Or Counsell? Or something non-game related like some community intiative? Source:
  3. The odd thing was that the COVID situation seemed to make this a no-brainer. He could've been added to the 40-man to replace anybody, then taken off the 40-man without being exposed to waivers when someone came back from COVID. Yet they decided to sign Romano instead. That said, #FreeNateOrf didn't really amount to much except for one spectacular moment. Sometimes a 29 year old minor leaguer with good numbers is still in the minors for a reason. But I'd like to see him get his shot somewhere, and I hope this has nothing to do with his statements about terrible conditions in the minors (which he's 100% right about).
  4. I believe I heard on the broadcast or somewhere that, since they hadn't played in a while, they were sending them to Arizona just to get their feet back underneath them before they were sent out to full-season affiliates, so you'll probably see some or all of them in A ball by the end of the month.
  5. Have to wonder how legit the elbow injury today.. probably legit, but it is rather convenient at the precise moment CC was going to take him out. Without the injury, he is likely released. As is, he is paid league minimum salary through the end of injury, I presume. Or is he guaranteed his salary already for the rest of the year regardless of what happens? The second he got called up he was guaranteed his salary for the rest of the year, so injury or no injury doesn't really matter. Those last two pitches he threw though....he's definitely injured.
  6. Curious timing for the Turang promotion, since he hasn't been hitting very well there recently and his season OPS is something like .715. Any insight from anyone as to why this move is being made now? My fear is that Turang ends up being Arcia 2.0, just another solid defensive shortstop who can't really hit.
  7. Blaine Hardy added to the roster. He's had a whirlwind career of ups and downs but does seem to have 1 option remaining and has not yet reached 5 years of service time, so the Brewers could still send him back down without exposing him to waivers.
  8. when a player burns an option, it just means that he has one fewer option remaining the next season. What he said. The "-" syntax here means that he burned the option this year and will have 0 remaining next year, but you can continue to exercise the option all year even after it's burned.
  9. Loving this trade right now. Stearns gets another under-the-radar guy with good numbers and relatively low prospect cost, bonus is that he's controllable for a while yet (although he's already 28 so we'll see, relievers are mercurial). Pretty much all depth moves, hoping Curtiss can become a 7th inning guy this season along with Boxberger/Cousins.
  10. Even if Lo is a league average bat at this point, he's still going to provide WAY more value than Bradley and probably even slightly better defense too, and I guess they did the off days thing at AAA so that when he came back, he was ready to play every day. Glad to see him out there, I hope he continues to play well because we could really use him.
  11. Apologies as I haven't read back through this thread, but Donaldson makes a lot of sense to me. Any deal for him would likely involve us sending Cain or Bradley back to alleviate some of Donaldson's salary and make it a little more palatable for us to hold onto Donaldson for a couple more years. He could play 1B/3B this year and DH the next few years potentially. His OPS+ the last couple years with Minnesota has basically not dipped at all from his career average, acquiring him would lengthen the lineup but still allow for Urias/Tellez to get some playing time (and even potentially open up more playing time for Taylor). The questions for me would be: 1. Are the Twins serious about contending next year, or is that a line to drive up prices for the trade deadline? Do they want to dump Donaldson's contract? 2. What kind of return are they looking for. Assuming we include Cain or Bradley and their money in the deal, what are we looking at? Is Turang/Feliciano enough?
  12. Guessing we'll see Houser for 3-4, then Lauer for 3-4. Would be nice to score some early runs again to take the pressure off a bit. Hard to guess a lineup with no opposing pitcher, but I'll give it a shot: 1. Wong 2B 2. Adames SS 3. Narvaez C 4. Garcia RF 5. Tellez 1B 6. Taylor LF 7. Urias 3B 8. Bradley CF Guessing Cain doesn't go back to back days just yet unless the Pirates pull some tough lefty starter out of their butts. Kind of crazy that the longest tenured Brewer in this lineup would sort of be.....Tyrone Taylor (if you go by first game played with the Crew, Taylor is the only one to go back to 2019).
  13. It works basically the same for the rest of the year as it does right now, but if a player is DFA'd, teams can no longer work out a trade, they would just have to claim the player. If the player is claimed before end of August, they are eligible for the team's playoff roster. If the player isn't claimed, they can be outrighted to the minors, or if the player has been outrighted before, they could opt for free agency instead and I assume they could sign with another team at that point and be eligible for the postseason as long as they sign by end of August. I think players on minor league deals could still be traded in August, so you could potentially see some veterans that are currently in the minor leagues get traded in August and then added to the 40-man/active roster, but I assume that would be pretty rare and inconsequential.
  14. How can you definitely say you were within 6 feet of someone for 15 minutes or more? Tough to be definitive with that. Don’t they wear electronic trackers for this? If that’s the case then it should be pretty easy. I guess I don’t know how many people are in the dugout at one time, but when on offense it it could be around 12-15 guys and a half inning can early last more than 15 minutes, so it seems very feasible that that many people in close quarters could meet the requirements. I’m just surprised that is only two. I’m glad it’s only two, don’t get me wrong, but I’m just surprised. I wonder if the reason Jace got dinged was because he's not vaccinated. Maybe part of the relaxed rules is that, even if you're a close contact, if you've been vaccinated you'd need to test positive yourself before you'd have to be quarantined for 7 days. The quotes out of the story seemed to stress only that Yelich was vaccinated and that the team was 85% vaccinated or better. Just a guess.
  15. he burned an option in 2020 while on optional assignment. in 2019, he was on optional assignment, but only from 18 - 31 july, so no optioned burned. in 2016, he burned an option. he has one option remaining. Yeah that was more or less what I thought based on looking at his MLB page, thanks for confirming.
  16. Houser starting today:
  17. I'll be honest, I don't know how many options Gustave has left. I think it's 1 but it could be 0.
  18. Omar Narvaez has reached 5 years of service time, and would need to approve any option to the minors (not expecting this to be much of an issue).
  19. Green burned his 1st option in 2019, but he was outrighted after the season and elected free agency, and has only signed minor league deals since, so he still has 2 Minor League options intact if the Brewers were to add him to the 40-man.
  20. Luis Urias has never had a 4-hit game for the Brewers (87 career games). Orlando Arcia only had three 4-hit games in 542 career games with the Brewers: - 9/26/20: 4-for-4 with 2 doubles in a 3-0 win over the Cardinals - 9/9/20: 4-for-6, 1 2B, no RBIs in a 19-0 victory over the Tigers (Tyrone Taylor also had a 4-hit day that day with a homer, a double, and 3 RBI. The Tigers suck.) - The most famous one, 10/1/18: Arcia was 4-for-4 (all singles, no RBI, but 2 runs scored) in our Game 163 win 3-1 over the Cubs. Pretty huge game, almost certainly the most notable game of Arcia's entire career. In 365 games with the Brewers, Jonathan Villar only had one 4-hit game on 8/6/16, he was 4-for-6 with two doubles, 2 RBI, 3 runs scored. Willy Adames has 6 career Brewers games under his belt (only 5 starts), and he already has a 4-hit game. 4-for-5, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, and very solid defensive play. We'll see how his Brewers career turns out, but that game shouldn't be ignored as one of the best regular season performances by a Brewers shortstop in at least the last 5 years, probably 2nd only to Game 163. I could've looked back farther but it was kinda tedious (I basically just found game logs for our main shortstops recently, if some bench guy filled in at SS in the last 5 years and had a 4-hit game, I missed those).
  21. Offense carried the pitching for once on Sunday. As Shaw said, sometimes it seems like they score just enough for what they need to win. With Narvaez back and looking like Yelich will be back tonight, our offense starts looking a lot better. Woodruff and Burnes going against KC, I'm calling a sweep right now.
  22. Yesterday was my first game at the ballpark since August 2019. Disappointing loss but I'm not going to blame the offense when they were hitting the ball hard all day with nothing to show for it. Peralta looked pretty stellar, and in the 9th inning with the game on the line, the bottom of our order absolutely scalded 3 balls in a row right at guys for outs. That Cardinals devil magic didn't die with the old name of the ballpark apparently... Back at it today, glad we have Woodruff/Burnes going, I think we have a good shot to still take the series.
