  1. Unless the rotation ends up being a complete disaster and they end up flush with elite bullpen options, I don't think Hader to the rotation is in consideration this year. I think they want him doing exactly what he's doing all of 2018, then who knows. I don't disagree, I think given Hader's pretty much absolutely lack of a 3rd pitch he's better off in his current role, especially since he has taken so well to it, he can provide a TON of value as a fireman, but I know last year Stearns said they still saw him potentially as a starter someday. Don't think he said that at all this year though, so yeah unless there's a glaring hole they can't seem to fill I agree he's likely to stay in his current role where he is tremendously valuable.
  2. If they were considering Hader for the rotation at some point this year but were concerned about his innings, keeping him in this role where he pitches a couple innings every few days would do the trick......just a thought.....
  3. This is textbook Hader usage, coming in to face the heart of the order, probably go 2 innings and get the game into the late innings. This is how we should be using him. Throwing more sliders today than usual. Hosmer looked silly when he came back with that 96 mph fastball.
  4. That it for Suter do we think, or do they let him go out for the 6th? With the day off tomorrow, it wouldn't be the worst idea to bring in Hader and see if he could go the 6th/7th to get to Albers/Knebel.
  5. I was going to guess Bonds, then checked and he's a career .298 hitter. He should've retired a year earlier.
  6. Would be nice if the ump is going to give Perdomo a giant strike zone if he'd at least give Suter the regular strike zone....
  7. I mean this is kind of our Sunday lineup. Our 2B corps has looked pretty bad but Pina/Arcia should be fine down there.
  8. Did Cain just stand there with his hands behind his back watching Yelich as he caught that fly ball?
  9. Perdomo has had a rough night with a HUGE strike zone from the home plate ump, imagine if he wasn't getting all those calls 3 inches off the corner.
  10. Nice job by Suter after falling behind there on Renfroe.
  11. Villar had a .686 OPS in March/April 2016, so it's not like he rocketed out of the gate that year. We'll see where he's at after 100 PAs or so.
  12. Villar is potentially one helluva trade chip once Hiura is ready if he could play like he did in 2016. I guess my thought is if they didn't go get Walker, there must be something about Villar's struggles last year that Coles/Counsell/Stearns think could be fixed for Villar. Also to keep this thread on track, that inside fastball against lefties from Perdomo is a pretty great pitch, I'm not going to fault Villar for striking out on that.
  13. Just kind of all the more surprising that they didn't pursue Walker for cheap. He's certainly not spectacular, but he's fairly safe. I think Kipnis could end up being the one we wish we had pulled the trigger on. I think Stearns wanted to see if Villar could get the magic back, and if he can't, there will be someone we can acquire at the trade deadline similar to Walker last year or if Dubon is doing well at AAA you could give him some time there too. Either way I don't think anyone here is too concerned long term with 2B, but this year might be a project to get some production there.
  14. Padres acting like the limit is 6 mound visits per inning.
  15. Yelich would've been dead at home if they sent him there, very glad Eddie showed some restraint. Also Shaw is going to get 100 RBIs in his sleep this year if he has any kind of year.
  16. Interesting that, like Burnes, he was drafted in the 4th round in 2016 and steamrolled the competition in A+ and AA last year. Unlike Burnes, Lucchesi has the benefit of being on a team not ready yet to compete, so he's getting his opportunity a little bit sooner than Burnes. Apart from that, kinda seems like there's not many similarities in terms of pitching style, and was Lucchesi a senior draft pick? He's a year older than Burnes. Is it strange that two 4th round pitchers would've advanced so quickly through the minors while being so dominant? They both have a minor league ERA under 2.
  17. Drake/Jennings are really just a stopgap until Logan gets back (assuming he does recover), and this deal is probably for like $1M at the most, so I'm not really sweating it that much and we needed another bullpen arm anyways. I don't see us holding onto Drake for long if we have Jennings though. A couple bad outings and my guess is we'll be seeing Taylor Williams.
  18. Well, it was nice having you Ji Man, enjoy Colorado. Hope they're making sure Jennings passes that physical tonight and gets on a plane to SD.
  19. I guess it's news to me but man the Padres' bullpen is a lot better than the Brewers'
  20. [sarcasm]Knebel hasn't pitched in a while. Think his curveball will be sharp?[/sarcasm]
  21. Albers fastball has so much movement, not sure what pitch you're seeing.
