  1. SP: Anderson, Davies, Chacin, Woodruff, Guerra RP: Knebel, Hader, Albers, Logan, Barnes, Jeffress, Suter C: Pina, Vogt (wouldn't surprise me if Bandy steals the backup job from Vogt though) 1B: Thames, Aguilar 2B: Villar, Sogard SS: Arcia 3B: Shaw OF: Santana, Cain, Yelich, Braun UTIL: Perez Hard to see Phillips or Broxton making the team unless one of Perez/Santana/Aguilar is traded. Anyone with options better pack their bags for Colorado Springs if they're on the bubble.
  2. I guess I'm just hoping that Woodruff is capable of being that #3 guy in future years who can consistently give you like 180 IP and 3.75 ERA. His command was iffy at times last year, but I do think that if he makes the right adjustments and gets some more Major League experience, he's pretty likely to reach his ceiling soon and provide a steady mid-rotation arm that would help the Brewers from having to go out and pay Lance Lynn $15M/year to do that. I do think he got overshadowed a bit by Hader coming up and is now being overshadowed a bit by Burnes, and those two guys may end up having better careers but that doesn't mean Woodruff can't be a huge part of our rotation for the next 5 years.
  3. At the beginning of the offseason, I would've thought trading for Yelich was a little nutty. At this point, I'd say it's my favorite move of the offseason, at least for the Brewers (I think a team that can afford Stanton like the Yankees getting him for essentially just his salary was probably the best move, and the Angels signing Ohtani was more just kinda logic than a good move, not sure he was going anywhere else). He's kinda scarily underrated, even now with all the attention on him after the trade. He'll really boost our OF defense and could be a very special bat at Miller Park too. Added to the fact that he's under reasonably cheap control for 5 years, and we basically gave up depth to get him (I'd rather have a proven Yelich over Brinson or Harrison, and Hiura over Diaz), and the deal kinda looks like a slam dunk for the Brewers.
  4. I'm guessing nobody wants to give up much value for pitching right now when there are 4 notable free agent pitchers yet to be signed and the indicator is that their market is soft and they can be had for a discount. I still get the feeling that before the Yelich/Cain acquisitions, the Brewers made up their minds to acquire a controllable "ace" (no proof of this but it seems like rational thinking that just acquiring those outfielders is a bit of a half measure when our rotation is such a mess). Obviously that term has a different definition for everyone, and I'm not saying all these guys are the same or that they're even all aces, but I'd be surprised if the Brewers get to Opening Day without one of Darvish/Arrieta/Archer on their roster (I suppose Strohman and a few other trade possibilities would fit this also, but Archer just seems like the most likely "ace" to be had via trade).
  5. Not gonna lie I've been checking this thread every couple of hours and scrolling through kinda quickly to see if HighHeat has posted anything. I enjoy discussing the potential deals with all of you fine folks but right now I kinda just want the scoop!
  6. Tweets say several teams in on Yelich, so Indians might be too. We probably want major league pieces for Santana whereas Marlins want prospects so maybe Indians and Marlins don't match up. Also acquisition cost of Santana is probably lower than Yelich.
  7. And now it looks like we might know what they're pivoting too. If new A is Yelich, I'm assuming we won't be trading back Santana. Think Marlins would accept an offer without Brinson? Phillips/Diaz/Woodruff? A trade like that takes us out of the market for Cain, would give us the opportunity to go sign Arrieta or Cobb and trade Santana for another pitcher too. Still room for this chain of trades to happen.
  8. To be fair, the Astros just won the World Series in no small part due to a superstar 2B.
  9. Not enough for Shaw, in my opinion. To me this deal would essentially be Shaw for Torres and Broxton for the rest, and I would think we'd have to be getting at least one more top prospect for Shaw to make it worth moving him. Haha, this made me laugh: https://twitter.com/JP_Breen/status/955496865885278210
  10. Not enough for Shaw, in my opinion. To me this deal would essentially be Shaw for Torres and Broxton for the rest, and I would think we'd have to be getting at least one more top prospect for Shaw to make it worth moving him. Isn't Torres like the 2nd ranked prospect in baseball? It took Torres and 3 more guys to get Aroldis Chapman for half a season. While that was obviously an overpay, I don't see how Torres alone is enough for 4 years of control over Shaw.
  11. I don't really see the Brewers wading into the Darvish pool unless we thought we could get him for 1. less money or 2. less years, probably a mixture of both. An opt out clause would be interesting, say 4/100 with a player opt out after 2 years? I'm not wild about player opt out clauses in general because it's lose-lose for the team (either the player is really good and you lose them or they're not good and you still have to pay them), so we'll see if Stearns sees value in them to try to woo players to Milwaukee who would prefer to go elsewhere. My hope is that the Brewers have entered the fray because the market is so soft, and not because they suddenly decided to get into the 6 year/$140M range for free agents.
  12. Not enough for Shaw, in my opinion. To me this deal would essentially be Shaw for Torres and Broxton for the rest, and I would think we'd have to be getting at least one more top prospect for Shaw to make it worth moving him.
  13. I'd say deal Santana and let Brinson/Phillips platoon in right field. Any deal for Cain will get him into his mid-thirties, so at some point he'll probably shift to a corner (maybe LF after Braun's contract is up?) and Brinson and/or Phillips could take over CF at that point. Brinson/Phillips are huge defensive upgrades no matter where they play in the OF so I'm totally fine keeping both even if we sign Cain.
  14. Wouldn't the Brewers still be well below that, even with signing Darvish? My point was just that I'm good signing Darvish for this if it means we still have flexibility to make more moves in the future. I'm not sure Darvish is the only big contract we'll need to really compete over the length of that contract.
  15. Barstool hedging his bets a bit: https://twitter.com/BarstoolHubbs/status/955226902687567872 Also I have absolutely no indication that this guy knows anything but since there's not much else in the way of news: https://twitter.com/OverNightSports/status/955238740884156416
  16. The more I think about this, the happier I'd be with the Brewers getting Darvish over Arrieta. I think my enthusiasm wanes the bigger the deal gets though. I really hope that any deal we give any starter is 4 years or less. 4/100 is something I could live with for Darvish though, I think, assuming that Attanasio is willing to bump yearly payroll up to the $120M range.
  17. Not to mention they have very little money committed a few years from now (by Yankees standards anyway), they have a lot of flexibility already.
  18. So leaving out all the other reasons why we'd never trade Braun to the Yankees, there is literally nowhere for him to play there. Last I checked, Yanks had the corner OF positions pretty much covered. Yes, I'm aware I just opened this thread up to "he could play 1B" discussion. EDIT: I'm a little slow this morning, so please forgive me for forgetting that he'd probably be an ideal DH.
  19. Yeah, I was trying to figure it out too. Your deal seems light on the Yankee end to me. This is us giving up Broxton, a prospect (both of which aren't worth much) and paying a pretty much useless player $38,000,000. Someone will come in with the values of prospects, but I personally wouldn't pay $38,000,000 (plus minor value) for Albert Abreu. I'd need more. I'm glad someone tried to put it together though. Agreed that it seems like a pretty steep price to pay for one good prospect. Yankees have a lot of interesting bullpen arms, might be worth seeing if we can get our setup guy from them. Betances maybe? Also for what it's worth, Abreu is on the Yankees' 40-man. Swap Ellsbury for Broxton and Abreu could take the spot that Wang will vacate soon, but if we're adding another piece to the deal, we might need to make room after this trade.
  20. So since the Ellsbury deal possibilty seems to be the only one with any hints at being true so far (however spurious those hints are), what would that deal potentially look like? Brewers get: - Jacoby Ellsbury - Albert Abreu - $30M Yankees get: - Keon Broxton - Organizational depth prospect I'm trying to base this at least somewhat around the deal with Arizona for Jean Segura. Broxton's value is a little lower than Segura's, but we're taking on a much worse contract for multiple years than Aaron Hill. Abreu can be the Isan Diaz part, we offer less than Tyler Wagner in terms of prospect return. There's not a good Chase Anderson part in here though, so I wonder if maybe one more prospect from the Yankees in the 20-30 range might balance this deal?
  21. https://www.brewcrewball.com/2018/1/21/16917150/milwaukee-brewers-are-close-to-making-a-trade-per-report I would assume Santana and/or Broxton is involved. White Sox are mentioned as someone we've been talking to (and the Marlins have also been listed lately, among other teams I'm sure). What do we think we could be getting back for one or both of those guys? Other thought, is it possible this is a trade FOR an outfielder (i.e. Yelich) instead of the other way around? I don't see why they'd do that exactly but Yelich would be nice to have.
  22. No details on how much he's going to get paid, but very glad to hear that they at least got his first year of free agency covered in this deal and now he is cost controlled for the next 4 years. Very good news for the Brewers I'd say. http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/2017/10/26/brewers-give-right-hander-chase-anderson-two-year-contract-two-option-years/802027001/

  24. I'd be surprised if the Brewers wanted to burn an option on Woodruff to start 2018. Seems like kind of a waste. I'm ok with graduating both Hader and Woodruff from the list, as they both seem like they've established themselves as Major League players for 2018.
