  1. So which divisional foe is going to catch or pass us in the standings tonight? The Cubs?
  2. I'm not sure Pina for Aguilar is much of an upgrade at this point. Can't be worse though.
  3. I almost wonder if the success of guys like Miley, Jeffress and Chacin last year give this team's front office a false sense that they could turn lead into gold when it comes to the pitching staff? I wasn't a big believer that Derek Johnson made that much of a difference, but that resolve is starting to waiver. Or maybe, just maybe, last year was a bit of lightning in a bottle.
  4. Then most fans haven't been paying enough attention (no real surprise). Most projections had us around a 50/50 shot to make the playoffs this season in a stacked NL. If you flip a coin, I call heads & it comes up tails, is that a major failure? Sorry but most of those same projections had us at less than that last 2 yrs. Sorry, but so what?
  5. I disagree. They made a choice. In my opinion that choice was the better choice for the long term success of the franchise. I'm fine with that even if it means missing the playoffs this year.
  6. I get what you're saying, I just disagree with it on multiple levels. The bottom line is that at some point you have to let them pitch. What were you going to do, lock them in to bullpen spots? What if they missed the World Series by one game this year? Do you put them back in the pen again in 2020? At what point have you wasted the opportunity to let these guys develop? What is your alternative plan? They were never going to give a tone of money to multiple starting pitchers and if they had we would have even bigger holes in the linup than we already do.
  7. What's the solution? Seems like they are pretty much trying everything. Let the kids pitch and take the lumps. One step back this year to take a whole bunch of steps forward in the coming years is worth it. None of these guys was ever going to be Kershaw or Scherzer and anyone expecting them to come up and light the world on fire had misguided expectations. Jettisoning them to the pen or a league they have already dominated isn't going to help in terms of being the answer.
  8. I mean, did you really expect anything more? I don't agree with the assessment of Houser being just a guy any more than I would of that assessment of Burnes, Peralta or Woodruff. They all have decent talent but they are all young. The choice remains the same as it was before Houser came up. Are you gong to take the lumps and let the young arms grow up or not?
  9. Let’s be PG here... Ewwww. Where is your mind?
  10. It seems odd to me that they wouldn't leave him out there for his typical starter's pitch count. He seemed to be pitching just fine. Maybe he threw so many breaking pitches, they protecting his elbow. Probably just saving bullets.
  11. Same could be said for about 25 out of the 30 teams at this point. Probably, but I'm watching this one. The opinion that other teams "do it to" has nothing to do with my observation. This offense sucks right now. They won't suck all season and will have brilliant stretches, but they suck right now.
  12. Swing at balls take strikes. I remember stretches like this last year too but this offense is like watching a car wreck outside of the occasional home run.
