  1. Any one have detail on the Rasmussen outing? Hiura going deep, really starting to come around now.
  2. All I care about it the velocity. He basically had no spring training so giving up some hits and even home runs is not entirely unexpected or worrisome.
  3. Those guys weren't in the pen all year. I think people remember the latter part of the year and the playoffs and think that is how things worked all year. Bottom line is that we have to develop starting pitching and, often, that means growing pains. Yes, Woodruff had a bad inning tonight, but he's been pretty good otherwise. A couple of breaks in that inning and things look much different. He has to learn how to get through that as a starting pitcher. It sucks right now but it has to happen.
  4. Totally agree. Dodgers lineup against this staff could be curtains. Or not. A couple of them could be brilliant for a couple of starts. It's going to be up and down.
  5. If Nelson comes back strong that helps obviously. My guess is one of the young guys goes to AAA and basically rests and then takes innings when the other two start to hit their limit.
  6. This is exactly right. We have to be able to develop starting pitching and that is going to mean taking the lumps that go along with that development. Unfortunately we have to do that in triplicate this year. Throwing them back in the pen is the wrong move.
  7. Well, I don't think the plan was for Knebel and Jeffress to both get hurt and leave the bullpen thin. It was a risk to go with all three young starters and bullpenning like they did last year was probably going to be how they mitigated the risk. Didn't work out.
  8. I think Woodruff is a starter, but going through similar growing pains to what Jimmy Nelson did at the same age. I agree and you are going to have to allow him to learn. The answer can't be to just turn around and throw him in the pen when he has a chance to be a starter. Unfortunately, the fact that we have three of them is probably going to mean we take a step back this year.
  9. This isn't a playoff team as currently constructed. That isn't a reaction to tonight's game. Rather, tonight's game is confirmation.
  10. It certainly wouldn't be the fun option, but I imagine we would see Spangenberg before Hiura. If Shaw were to be out an extended period of time, Spongeberger would be the wrong choice, fun or not.
  11. They have to find out if the kids can pitch or not. It may cost us a playoff spot this year but they have to do it.
  12. Not a bad thought but the young starters are gonna have a hard enough time without jerking them around like that. I wouldn't do it.
  13. If necessary, I'd think so. This certainly isn't a must win but it'd sure be nice to get the series, obviously.
