  1. You’re probably right. I’m sure he would want assurances that he would be starting before even considering signing with the Brewers.
  2. Disclaimer - I have always been a fan of David Dahl. That being said, he seems like he would be a nice fit with our current roster. I know he struggled last season, but the season before he was an All-Star. At minimum, I think he would be a significant upgrade over Gamel in the 4th OF spot. He would be a good complement to Cain and Garcia as a LH bat. Defensively he can play any OF position, and could step in as a potential quality starter in case of injury or if Cain or Garcia struggle to get it going offensively this season. I know his home and away splits weren’t great in Colorado, but I think his bat would still play well at Miller Park. One thing I’m unsure of is how much he would command on a free agent contract. Maybe someone else would have a better idea on that. Thoughts?
  3. I agree that you don't part with Hiura, but you lose me on having to separate them. Just based on sheer probability, if they were batting next to each other in the order all season long, they would hit back-to-back homeruns approximately 3 times.
  4. Something tells me the Twins were the only team willing to go 4+ years. Otherwise, based on everything I’ve read, I really believe he’d be with the Braves or Nationals right now. To me, the bottom line is nobody else felt he was worth what the Twins gave him.
  5. You could choose to look at it another way: The Braves, Nationals, Rangers, Dodgers, etc. all thought he wasn’t worth that much money. I’m willing to wager he didn’t sign with the Twins because they were the team he wanted to play for. He signed with them because they gave him the most money. Not sure why the Brewers should have valued him as much or more than the Twins did.
  6. I agree. I don't want him to be our everyday third baseman. I very much prefer him as a reserve player, but a couple starts a week would be just fine (filling in at 3B, 2B, and SS). I would much rather we go after a higher upside third baseman. I would love to get Donaldson (pipe dream), but someone like Kyle Seager would probably be more realistic.

  8. If Sogard starts two games a week, that is 2 games too many... I'm not a Sogard fan either, but this comment is just hating on someone to hate on someone. Championship teams still have role players like Sogard, and if he produce like he did last year, it makes this comment look even worse.
  9. Few things: 24 years and $528mil for Donaldson is way too much Brown has not even appeared in the majors yet, let alone drawn a big salary to get rid of next year. I don't know what celery has to do with resigning Yelich This made me laugh. All good stuff.
  10. How about just giving Dubon a chance?
  11. The article states that the Indians asked about Senzel and Trammell, not that the Reds were willing to offer both of them. I think if they were willing part with both, the trade would already be done.
  12. So, Hader wasn't available after a day of rest following 2 days of work, but Jennings was available for the 3rd straight day and 4th in the last 5 days? I'm not pretending to know why he wouldn't be available. Just saying it makes zero sense not to use him, so he must not have been available.
  13. I refuse to believe that CC wouldn't have used Hader if he was available. It would defy all logic. If this is proven otherwise, then by all means, crucify CC.
  14. The bat remained in a bunting position when the ball hit it, so strike 3. You can argue intent all you want, but that's a slippery slope. The umpire should not be guessing as to whether he still intended to bunt it. He should simply use his eyes to observe that the bat still remained in a bunting position.
  15. Let's at least give Schoop credit though. He fooled everyone as a "useless" player when he finished 12th in the AL MVP voting last year.
  16. I don't see anyone here saying we traded for Babe Ruth. All I see are people saying they know he's not as bad as he's looked and the career numbers support it. It would be foolish to cast Schoop as the guy we've seen so far in a 2 week sample. You're the one with the flippant remark that he's no good. You're deeply enlightening comment was "he was no good in Baltimore". The fact is he had a very valuable season at the plate last year and had a huge month at the plate leading up to the trade. Be better. He wasn't good in Baltimore this year. It took a month of hitting .360 to bring him to below average. How exactly was he good this year? Nothing supports that when looking at the entire picture. And piss off with your be better remark. Okay, let's just be really angry and irrational.
  17. He wasn't good in Baltimore either. It took him hitting .360 for a month (with an OBP lower than his average) for him to become merely below average offensively. Like I said, I get frustration, but your're still being disingenuous with your information to prove your point. The guy is only 26, and had an .841 OPS last year, and has an at least respectable .740 OPS over his career of 2,400 AB's. Now if you wanted to say he's prone to streakiness due to his swing and miss tendencies, I'd be in full agreement.
  18. It baffles that me that any knowledgeable baseball fan could say a player is ueseless after only 40+ plate appearances. I get being frustrated, but c'mon.
  19. I think that the Rays will want Nottingham, Ray, probably either Burnes or Peralta and likely another high ranking guy as well. For me, Burnes would be off the table. He's looked dang near dominant out of the pen, with better stuff than what I gave him credit for. I'd probably do this deal for Archer: Ray/Nottingham/Peralta/Carmona That deal is going to sting, as Ray is playing like the stud prospect he is, Nottingham is the catcher of the future, Freddy has looked good and is so young, and Carmona is an uber-talented young SS. But you have to give value to get it. I'd only do something like that for a clear TOR starter. I like Archer, but not so sure he fits that description. I think if you shopped that package around you would find someone better than Archer.
  20. Can we just change the title of this thread to "How Great the Cubs Are"?
  21. My take on Cain is that the Brewers have made a 3 year offer, and at this point, it is the best offer. Cain's agent is putting out info. that he has multiple 4 year offers on the table in order to get the Brewers to go to a 4th year, even though there are no 4 year offers that have been made at this point.
  22. The statement could also be, "Not sure how much worse than Garza $5M is going to get you."
  23. Who are all of these relievers you reference? I get Feliz, but he wasn't an exorbitant cost. And who is this top tier reliever Stearns could have gotten?
  24. I agree. There's no disputing Jimenez is a better prospect than Ray at this point. I'm glad the Cubs traded him, but I think the Brewers could have put together just as appealing of a package, even with Ray as the centerpiece. Even still, the White Sox may have elected to go with Jimenez, but I think we could have pushed the envelope even without Brinson.
  25. I'm guessing GM's pay very little attention to prospect rankings. I've seen Jorge Soler mentioned as a Jimenez comp. Not exactly a ringing endorsement. True, he's not Soler, and he could end up being far better, but my point is you saying "no way" the Brewers could have offered a trade surrounding Ray and Ortiz is ridiculous. Ray could easily end up being better than Jimenez, but of course it all depends on how the White Sox front office views each player (not on BA's rankings or anyone else's). If Stearns offered a couple of better 3rd and 4th pieces than the Cubs, it could have certainly swung the trade the Brewers' way. Either way it's all conjecture, but I hardly think they are any absolutes unless you have firsthand knowledge.
