  1. No....just...no. I don't know how good these picks are or will turn out being, but I can say pretty confidently, the Packers didn't sit there slack jawed for an extended period of time and say, "bu..bu..but they stole the guy we wanted, oh well, just hurry up and turn in whoever!"
  2. He was talking 2016. I don't think anyone would argue that he isn't untradeable/has no trade value now. Braun needs a good benching, a full week or so. I'm still confident that some more value can be squeezed out of him (see 2018 vs. 2019 Felix Hernandez), but he needs to get a little wake up call first. What do you think this is going to do? He's a grown man. This isn't like Bo Ryan benching a guy for a turnover. A benching(good or bad) isn't going to do much for Braun.
  3. I know. I understand that and I have my fingers crossed with regard to his production, just like everyone else. But it still bugs me that people refuse to acknowledge the consequences of their failure to move him in 2016, and that we had people in here saying he would be an MVP candidate again this year. A lot of us predicted Santana would be better than Braun this year, and I'm tired of getting the "you're just a Braun hater" thing when the criticisms are totally valid regardless of how you feel about him. Who's next to be jettisoned to keep the curse going? I'd just release him if he's not making progress by the ASB, if not sooner. Who are all the people who've "refused to acknowledge" this? It feels more like an excuse to just be able to keep banging your head against the wall saying the same thing over and over until there's literally not a single person left who disagrees. Problem is....I haven't really seen anyone disagreeing. Edit-I also REALLY haven't seen this call for Braun to be the 2019 MVP this year. Is this like there being "people on here" who want to move Braun back to 3rd base? Doesn't really seem to be an overwhelming theme.
  4. You're just too far removed from Sheets and the paper bats that came out when he pitched. I don't know how many games Sheets won, but I'd have guess he was about 60-50 or so with the Brewers. I'm surprised he won 94 games total and 86 for the Brewers. Sheets is a pretty good example of the type of pitcher who SHOULD win 100 games with a franchise like the Brewers. If he came up now, he'd likely be a 15 game a year winner year in and year out. So I wouldn't put money on any particular guy, but it also wouldn't surprise me if any of the young guys did it, Davies wouldn't shock me...etc..etc.. As for 300 wins, I just did a quick google search of "pitchers most likely to win 300 games." It was almost10 years old. #5 Jair Jurrjens-He had 49 wins. Roy Halladay was on the list. He finished up with 204 and his last big year came at age 34 when he was coming off a dominant run with the Phillies and had averaged just under 20 wins the previous 4 years. If Justin Verlander doesn't do it, not sure who else could. Kershaw has 183 but has seen a precipitous drop off in his stuff. Still, at 31, if he can figure out how to pitch with reduced stuff, gotta say he's got an outside shot at it. It just depends if he's a guy who wants to pitch as long as he can or if he doesn't want to pitch unless he's an ace. Listening to his recent comments, it sounds like he wants to pitch for a while yet. Verlander is still dominant, on a great team and could pretty easily be at 250 at the end of his current deal. The guy's still throwing in the upper 90's. I'd bet against him, but I also thought the Brewers were smart to not push too hard to trade for him a few years ago because it looked yet again like he had fallen off. Very few pitchers are able to bounce back like him.
  5. I feel like he's a little overlooked because of the two Iowa guys. Irv Smith is more than just solid. He led FBS in yards after catch for TE's and I think could develop into a 700+ a year type guy. Metcalf, I'd feel better about in the 2nd. I still don't like him, but he is a monster. Ford and Taylor are both obvious. I'd have to be convinced Ford could hack it at tackle.
  6. I like Winovich a lot as well. But lets not pretend we can state definitively who is going to have the better career. And Gary's first year is not a "redshirt." He played with the same issue last year at Michigan. He's not a pitcher. He can play with a bad shoulder. He should still be an impact player in year one. Especially given where he'll be on the depth chart. If the team can get the most out of him, he'll be in the running for DROY. That's a huge if though. And actually, looking beyond stats, his QB Pressures and hits were impressive. Still, did not have the college career he should have. Need to hope we can tap into his massive potential at the next level. The reason he dropped is simple. He dropped because he is about as physically gifted as a 6'4 280 LB human being can be, but he didn't set the NCAA sack record like Ferguson or even post double digit sacks. He should have dominated, but didn't. A 9 wonderlic means very little playing as a DE. This is your gap. If they run, tackle. If they pass, get the QB. It's the easiest position to learn. I was a fan of his coming into the draft, just not at 12. I really hopes he validates the decision to pick him as he could legitimately turn into a 15-20 sack a season type player.
  7. Man...I want to see offense, but Greedy Williams is press man corner in the draft. You have to give Rodgers some weapons, but...maybe not until round 3.
  8. Yes to Brown. I doubt he reaches us however. I'm done guessing who's gonna be where. You'd think Metcalf would be gone by the end of tonight. The Pats almost certainly take Irv Smith...but I wouldn't be totally against the Packers doing what the Vikes did a few years ago when they drafted Rhodes, Patterson and another 1st rounder and move back up again to grab Smith if they can do so without giving up too much.
  9. Most rankings had Savage going in the 2nd or 3rd round. That's where it's coming from. Kudos to Mel Kiper for being in on him that high - but again, most people did not. The disappointment is when there is a belief that the pick is a reach because he would have been available later. It doesn't mean the guy isn't going to be good - no one is saying that. It's a simple belief that the pick was too high. Now, that belief may be very wrong as other teams may have been on Savage in the 1st round as well - but if not, it's disappointing that we gave up resources for a guy who we could have had later. I honestly hadn't read anything about Savage until last night when I saw him compared to a bigger Bob Sanders. Now if he stays healthy, that's an All Pro Safety. But I agree. If draft coverage wasn't such a huge industry, we'd probably all be indifferent to the draft. I hope they load up on offense and I hope they bring Wilkerson back on a 1 year 4 million dollar deal with incentives so they can give Gary some time to develop and hopefully use him as a situational pass rusher like the Saints were doing with Davenport last year before he got hurt. A role he was pretty successful in.
  10. Since there is no like button, I'll just make my own. OntheBlack liked your post. He is curious why Gary is waiting another year to get that shoulder fixed if he definitely needs it fixed(maybe he won't).
  11. No, they can't. They need a slot receiver. There a couple from Ohio State, I wouldn't be against one of the Ole Miss WR'ers at 44. But the defense is pretty well set, for better or worse right now.
  12. After the Packers drafted Nick Collins right in front of Baltimore, Baltimore's GM called TT and congratulated him on the pick and said that Baltimore was going to take him with their pick. There were rumors that Baltimore was really high on Savage after releasing Weddle in the offseason. History may have repeated itself. I remember when we traded back in that draft and passed on a WR'er out of Florida...can't remember his name, Jackson or Johnson, but he was considered a top 15 pick. We ended up taking Greg Jennings with that pick. Nobody was calling for either him, or Nick Collins and quite a few people were upset about the Rodgers pick. On the other hand, people didn't love the Justin Harrell, they didn't love the Randall, Rollins combination. We need to be patient. To me, it makes zero sense to get upset over the draft picks. We're all relatively ignorant about these players. Nobody that I'm aware of on here has gotten any coaches tape from Maryland or Michigan for example. We don't know. So....if I don't know, I'd rather just be optimistic until proven otherwise.
  13. Have to agree 100%, tied for third most sacks given up last year with 53. Yeah, you can say it was because he scrambles, but then why is he scrambling! Having said that, I going to cook some eggs! Care to guess how I'm going to make them! Because he holds onto the ball longer than just about every other QB.
  14. And Gary was 18th. So we got two top 20 players...on Kipers board. Like I said, it's not the most exciting draft DURING the draft, but we have no idea how these picks will shake out for a couple years.
  15. Yeah, that's not the problem at all. The Packers OL has been just fine. He takes hits because he scrambles after passing up the short underneath routes while looking for the big play. That said, I'd have happily drafted Taylor...if he was as good as the experts said prior to the draft. Obviously teams don't believe that to be the case or he wouldn't have dropped. The Packers OL is fine right now. Picking a Tackle would have been a succession plan to take over for Bulaga. You say fine, I'll say mediocre. But one injury away from disaster. Well, they just signed a guy who can play both tackle spots, and they got Madison back from last year. But just about every team is a injured tackle away from having problems.
  16. So you're a Patriots fan? Or Colts? Because the Packers haven't done anything smart in years... Are you trying to be a clown? If so, spot on. You mean Jaire Alexander wasn't "smart" last year while picking up another first round pick? Or MVS, St. Brown in the later rounds? Lets not pretend you have any more clue than the rest of us. We know where these guys were mocked by experts(experts who had Taylor as a top 5-7 pick for example). I'll wait to see what these guys actually do rather than whine about the picks on the night of the draft.
  18. The last time Green Bay picked a safety ahead of Baltimore was Nick Collins. Nobody had him mocked in the 2nd round. Or anywhere close. Yes...perspective. We have NO CLUE how good these guys are. Still...it just feels better as a fan to get the top rated guys when we draft. It feels a helluva lot better to have a smarter GM than most teams and draft guys who make a big impact on the field, but that is gonna take a while.
  19. Yeah, like I said, I'd seen him compared to Bob Sanders. We really need to try and get Rodgers some weapons now. Hopefully Arod can work with St Brown, a guy who we'd have likely been talking about had he not come out a year early or Scantling who had a really nice rookie year. Maybe they believe that they have a couple of guys who are really gonna make a jump there and they can still grab a guy like Brown from Okie in the 2nd round.
  20. hopefully it’s just their second and 30. Both 4ths. So...Haha and their 4th. They need impact players and if they think these guys are impact players, fine. We all know WE have no clue about most of these guys...except where others rank them. And in that respect, not a great draft thus far.
  21. If we’re going on the record, I would have taken Jawaan Taylor. I thought that’s who they were moving up to take for the record. That was my assumption. That or they were really doubling down on pass rushers and they wanted Sweat. Two 4ths for the right to move up and take Savage...meh.
  22. Ok, so they drafted two guys that nobody on here guessed. Pretty much par for the course. I like Savage...I like his 4.36 speed and coverage ability, but I feel like they could have just stayed where they were and got the same players.
  23. Meh, this seems like another reach. I've seen this guy compared to Bob Sanders, but a bigger and more athletic guy, but this seems like another reach. And they likely gave up their 2nd round pick to move up, right?
  24. This has to be Taylor, right?
  25. I didn't think that was ever going to happen, but I was hoping they'd jump up and take Fant.
