  1. My only point was that there are fewer games left against the other NL teams. Crew has played the Mets, Phillies, and Diamondbacks for their entire allotment. They have series remaining with Padres, Marlins, and Rockies (I think 3 games each). We don't know how the series with the Dodgers will go or whether the Nats decide to make a go for it move. Just found it interesting that those 4 teams are either contenders or expected to be in play for big moves and we have 26 or so games to go with them. More important will be how they do when facing the Pirates, Cards, Reds along the way and making sure to split when facing the Cubs.
  2. Here are teams that our Brewers have yet to face: Atlanta Braves LosAngeles Dodgers Washington Nationals SanFran Giants Detroit Tigers That is a bit imposing. The team has already played a majority of their games against the other NL teams. These teams along with their division foes make up most of the remaining schedule. Considering the Reds recent improvement, the schedule looks very tough right out of the break and continuing all the way through Sept. No more AL Central to beat up on until that final series with Detroit. Who knows? Maybe the Nats will continue to flounder. Just thought it was interesting that the 4 NL teams we haven't played are teams that might be acquiring talent and pushing for the pennant race in upcoming weeks.
  3. The 1979 Brewers hold the team record for most wins in the first half with 54. That team went 54-38. Here’s a look at the Brewers teams with the most first half wins in a season. 1979 Brewers, 54 2014 Brewers, 53 2008 Brewers, 52 2017 Brewers, 49 (as of July 7… two games remaining in first half) 2007 Brewers, 49 2011 Brewers, 49 1978 Brewers, 48 1982 Brewers, 48 16 over at the break in 79 when I was 6. Let's do just one better!!! Edit... assuming no rainouts, they would need to be 58-40 at the break to do better.
  4. 7-3 road trip. Let's do the same or better on the 10 game homestand. I'm really liking this team. Considering the pitching that we are throwing being a different group every 10 days, pretty amazing. Hope Guerra can keep it up, we get Anderson, Davies, possibly Nelson back sometime later this year...throw in a rookie that does a Eldred or D'Amico and we could have something real special.
  5. Think there are 2 things that play into the rotation not being improved. 1) Brewers have a higher value on young controllable talent than other teams. Their "extra" OF, while good, are not necessarily game changers. Santana and Broxton both are serviceable and could still become even better but at this point aren't all-stars putting up .900+ OPS. Could Stearns have dealt them away for something? Sure, but he didn't get offered what he felt was a high enough return for their overall talent/control. 2) At this point in MLB, I think teams have decided that only the very very best starters that hit the FA market over 30 are worth giving more than 2 year deals. Too many teams have been burned signing guys to 4-5 yr contracts where they are not good in the last 2 years. That in combination with Miller Park being known as a launching pad, makes it difficult for the Crew to sign the guys that were out there this off-season. From their perspective, why sign in Milwaukee for 1 or 2 years and perhaps struggle? Then you might not get offered a deal when you hit the market again. Quite simply-It takes two to tango. As much as Stearns may have wanted or planned to improve the staff, if an opposing GM or available FA isn't on the same page regarding value, there isn't much he can do. formerly obobo55
