  1. It’s my understanding teams have to put deferred money into an escrow account for the player by dates certain and are independently audited to make sure they do so. Therefore, the chance that a player retires and when his deferred payment start, the team says “bankrupt!” Are next to zero. Athletes may be stupid, but the lawyers/agents taking 5% of their pay are not.
  2. It’s been near 100 and humid this week here in Chicago, and I believe both Misiorowski and Harrison mentioned the humidity and sweat affecting their grip on the ball. Second, they’re coming down the stretch and are tired. The playoff formula now makes teams jockey for position until the final weekend. If there was a five game series waiting for them in the post season by virtue of winning their division, the Brewers would likely throw some bullpen games and otherwise try to rest Miz, Harrison etc
  3. Money talks. I’m sure Counsell has no regrets resetting the market for manager salary.
  4. With a lead they go defense and speed. Vaughn has neither. Unless he’s injured
  5. Tyrone Taylor going from looking at NRIs in the offseason to getting $10M for 2027
  6. I wonder if opponents might make the dirt looser there intentionally if it affects Misiorowski’s command
  7. Murphy loves Hamilton’s hustle down the line on a 6-3 groundout
  8. I think the tagline that Arte Moreno is cheap is too crude. His insistence that the Angels be nominally competitive damned the franchise. Their draft philosophy was never who will be the best player, but rather who can be rushed to the big leagues quickest. A refusal to sell/tear down even when it’s the rational decision. Less organizational focus on what’s best for the future of the team and more focus on the immediate here and now.
  9. That’s baseball though. Almost every free agent contract where a player ages into their mid-30s and beyond ends this way, so it’s really hard to call it a mistake, it’s the norm. It’s not a winning trait of a GM to wonder if decisions in the here and now might ultimately be mistakes a half decade down the road.
  10. Little league. They deserve to lose this one
  11. Nope. What are you going to get for $25 million in 2026? Clay Holmes and Peter Fairbanks, or one Xander Bogaerts. None of whom are going to move the competitive needle. I’ll be concerned about the Yelich deal when the front office says they’re handcuffed by it because frankly, and I hate to say it, since the last CBA it’s not that much money in the MLB world anyways
  12. Hard to say. He’s likely not the best selling jersey but probably still Top 5. But retail marketing is weird. If somebody went into the store looking for Yelich themed merchandise and then bought something else. I don’t know how anyone outside a marketing team could quantify that but I’m sure they do.
  13. Why do the Dodgers pay Ohtani $70 million dollars per season, nearly 20% more than the next highest paid player? Because there are more factors that go into a star player’s worth than their stat sheet and metrics. Yelich was and remains a known name in baseball. Does having a nationally known player help the team sell tickets, ads, suites? Of course it does. Does having a big name player generate clicks for the Brewers website and socials? Of course it does. Does Yelich’s presence help move Brewers merchandise, absolutely. Outside of the fans who post on team message boards, folks are probably significantly more familiar with the name Yelich than they are Chourio. That’s the nature of pro sports contracts, they are not many athletes remain productive well into their 30s, from a competition standpoint that might not look good, but it doesn’t mean they’re not still moneymakers for the organization
  14. It cannot get any worse can it? A top media market, big payroll, a couple of once in a lifetime players together on the roster and yet 90 losses every year.
  15. That teams only get 2 September call ups is another baseball over correction. They have the pace of play changes in effect (pitch clock, 3 batter rule) which largely eliminate the reason they reduced the number of call ups. The Brewers starters are running on fumes and sure could use some reinforcements to lighten the load besides a one inning reliever who hasn’t pitched in the majors for weeks. Ironically, it was Doug Melvin who cried foul that it was unfair the Cardinals used their superior minor league depth to get an advantage down the stretch.
  16. The bigger point is why would he come back to Milwaukee in the first place other than as an opposing manager? He didn’t win anything to commemorate in Milwaukee. He spent most of his playing career with other teams and wasn’t a particularly memorable player the few seasons he was with the Brewers. There is no basis to retire his number like Favre or Rodgers. Even the alumni weekends the Brewers hostes have not included the likes of Roenicke, Sveum, Yost etc. I think you’re right, Brewer fans hated Gary Sheffield after he left Milwaukee. Years after his career when the dust has settled most fans would range from indifference to “who?”. Probably the same future for Counsell
  17. Boston kept him in AAA all of last year for a reason. Probably see Sproat now when rosters expand
  18. Man, I was hoping Harrison would tie the club record held by Michael Blazek for most home runs allowed in a game by a starting pitcher
  19. Clay Holmes missed all year with a broken leg and has a player option for 2027. Big gamble acquiring him. If he sucks or gets injured he assuredly exercises his player option .
  20. Maybe you’re right. But for a gift scoring change Harrison has allowed 13 runs in 20 innings since coming off the IL
  21. Maybe un ironically, Murphy was just talking about staying in the moment. Perhaps the Cubs want it more than the Brewers do.
  22. Trying to off load the money he’s still owed for this year, before simply DFA’ing him and eating it. He’s got 10 games pitched in Iowa on rehab and nowhere to pitch in a Chicago. In other words. Willing to let him get claimed but if they have to eat his salary they’ll DFA him Tuesday so he’s post season ineligible and won’t help any other competitors
  23. The Dodgers only have 3 division games left against an opponent that is not the Giants. IF San Francisco won out and the Dodgers lost every game for the rest of the they’d need SD to lose all but 10 games and AZ to lose all but 11. In that scenario, Giants could win the NL West
  24. I mean he turned 30 then was traded 3 times between Opening Day 2022 and July 2025 and traded 4 times in his career. He’s only 14th amongst active players in terms of career games played yet 3rd in career strikeouts. I guess it depends how you define “journeyman” and “just a guy” but fact is he’s a one dimensional slugger that’s appeared with 6 teams in 13 years (DET, CIN, SEA, AZ, SEA, CIN).
