  1. The Bears ran up the score in week one to 59 points. I don’t think it matters who the other coaches if the opportunity is there I think they would do it to any team. But back to the original point, why would he not respect LaFleur? He is about the most vanilla personality there is as coach in the NFL. He won a lot of games when he had good players, and has struggled when he doesn’t have the horses, again pretty non-descript.
  2. I guess I would say Buehler is a lot like those old beer commercials: he doesn’t always get hit, but when he does, he gets shellacked. Buehler had a couple of blow up starts in July (2GS, 9IP, 16 ER) that covered up the fact he was pretty consistent in keeping the Padres in games in 2026. 10 of 32 starts he allowed 1 or fewer runs, 2 or fewer runs allowed in 20 of 32 starts, 3 runs or fewer in 28 of 32 starts.
  3. Buehler has actually been pretty tough on the Brewers in his career (Brewers hitting under .200 against him for his career.). When they beat him in the 2018 NLCS, he didn’t pitch poorly (7IP 6H, 4ER, 1BB, 8K), the Dodgers didn’t score on offense. Outside of King and Miller, he’s the Padres pitcher who scares me the most, because if he can command his breaking stuff to consistently stay ahead in the count, he won’t have to throw his hittable fastball much and will quietly throw 6 innings
  4. Isn't playoff baseball about which team makes the fewest? I would say the the deeper the Padres go to their reserves the better the odds those players will make a mistake, The Brewers infield hasn’t played very well in this Series and needs to pick it up if they’re going to avoid a Game 5.
  5. More importantly, why does Ben Johnson hate the Packers? That’s just gotta be rah rah BS to pump his guys up. sure, the Packers were in the conference title game in ‘19 and ‘20 but since then they’re kind of a team that beats up on their weak division and gets pants’d in the playoffs. Prior to Detroit, I don’t think Johnson would have built up hate for the Packers as an offensive assistant in Miami, unless he’s just a weird guy (possible).
  6. They were only 3 point favorites last Sunday against Tampa with a rookie UFDA at QB making his first ever start. The bookies know the Packers are a garbage squad
  7. Either way, they intentionally set up all their broadcast contracts to expire at the same time so they can take them to market as a bundle. I don’t see the owners having an appetite for billions in lost revenue in the short run and then losing intentionally built leverage in selling their broadcast rights
  8. There will be at least a 60 game season in 2027. Manfred has set up all of the broadcasting contracts in such a way to take them collectively to the market in 2028; a less than a 60 game season would mean several of the national TV contracts extend for another year at the current rates, blowing up the plans they’ve been making for years . Let’s see when March 2027 rolls around what the owners’ actual appetite for losses is and that is probably when the negotiations will start in earnest.
  9. The White Sox winning the pennant would also hurt their narratives. From 100 losses one year to the pennant in the next without spending a pile of money on free agents.
  10. Cynically, with knowing Parsons was likely to miss a large chunk of the season and 11 picks in the 2027 draft which is reported to be unusually filled with talent, they may have viewed this season as more of a soft retooling year anyways.
  11. Trading Wicks for a 6th round pick in 2027 looks pretty foolish now that they have Melton, Moore and Sturdivsnt as their 3-4 and 5th WR
  12. They have cameras all over, if there is footage of Frelick signaling where is the footage of Yelich signaling?
  13. I don’t know, the Padres have a really talented hitting lineup with few if any weak spots They also have received a lot of media credit for their 41-18 tear after July 23rd which resuscitated their season plus their complete suffocation of the Cubs in the WC round. What does gets over looked is the Brewers’ nearly identical 39-21 march after July 23rd. The Brewers were just a little better with their weaker hitters in white knuckle time in Game 2 against a tiring Miller struggling with his command.
  14. Murphy is the best manager in the NL, but you have to respect Stammen. He’s got the best closer in MLB and took a gamble he could get the six out save and head back home tied 1-1, and Miller almost got there. Half the managers wouldn’t have the cojones to take the gamble in the first place. Plus, Stammen might be the only person with San Diego not saying France should’ve had a homer.
  15. Playing an opponent with an undrafted rookie in his first start at QB and head into half time only up by 3 on a monster FG. Gosh, the Jets are going to love having 2 top ten picks (Their own and GB’s by way of Dallas from the Quinnen Williams trade).
  16. It would be interesting to see who the player pool is. Looking at the metrics we can all see what happened but they do not tell us the “why”. In terms of Frelick he was performing poorly before his shoulder injury and performed even worse after it had healed, so it’s hard to say his poor season was causally connected to injuries. Career trajectory also figures into the equation. 2025 was a lucky one for Sal, his .332 wOBA exceeded his .299 xwOBA. Meanwhile in ‘26 his ground balls were up, line drives down, barrels down and launch angle down. All bad signs heading into ‘27 for a player with very little raw power to begin with. With Lara having a $30M guarantee, Mitchell having a breakout season and Chourio; the question is does Sal bring enough to the table to justify triple the price ($2.4M) of say Lockridge ($800k) as 4th outfielder/platoon player. Like I said the X factor is Murphy’s affinity for Sal which makes an otherwise close decision less so.
  17. Badoo 1150 career PAs .224/.305/.369 Frelick 1725 career PAs .261/.328/.357 If Badoo is a non-tender at a projected $1.3M, I think there’s a more than zero chance Frelick is a non-tender candidate at a projected $2.4M given his career stats and trajectory. However, being Murphy’s boy might trump career numbers and trajectory
  18. It’s the old NFL adage, you’re either getting better or you’re getting worse. They don’t have the talent to seriously compete in the conference, but they have a 43 year old QB who likely has enough juice left to keep them in the hunt for a low playoff seed, ensuring they won’t have top picks to make the inevitable rebuild easier. They have a 63 year old coach, not the guy to shepherd the team through a rebuild but also awkward for a team like the Steelers who are one of the models of stability to fire after a year or two. Can’t blame them for Porter when there’s no daylight between the money he wants and what they’re willing to pay, but with a team built to win now it sure doesn’t help. Like the Packers the Steelers are one of the models of stability and success in the NFL, and it’s strange to seem them suddenly adrift with no real direction (rebuilding vs competing)
  19. 43 year old Aaron Rodgers, retread Coach in McCarthy who the Packers fired years ago for lack of innovation, and trading one of their best defensive players for draft picks. A bigger mess than in Green Bay and hurtling towards a lengthy rebuild.
  20. Looks like you might be right and they play them Sunday.
  21. Yeah. Coaches are hired to be fired. Mike Maddux was a genius too before Johnson and has now coached a 1/3 of the teams in the league and has been fired/let go multiple times. In time Hook will likely join them (leave for another organization, get fired, etc)
  22. Sure, but by the same token some guy who’s been working out but has not been taking hits isn’t set up for success to be tossed out there, pull a muscle and miss even more time, put them back to where they started until the season is truly lost. I expect Tomlinson to play Sunday he was on a practice squad. The other two, probably a couple weeks minimum
  23. Good thing they gave him that contract extension. He’s got a $2M roster bonus due in 2027, and will have missed 25 out of the last 34 games with injuries. Probably gets released after the year. Too bad, he probably has some ability but using him as a ball carrier on jet sweeps, screens, and all the underneath routes has dealt more punishment than his body can seem to handle. But at least we’ll get more Bo Melton on offense.
  24. Right, but being “in shape” and having run with the pads on while taking hits are two different things. It’s one of the reasons they have a couple weeks training camp before the preseason games start. Zeitler in particular at 36 they’re going to make sure he’s ready to go before starting him and have him pull a hamstring or groin and miss 8 weeks.
