  1. Tough crowd. Realize Ortiz is the better hitter than Frelick right now, and there’s no equal outrage or calls for Sal to be demoted, benched, etc. The Brewers at least have options in the OF besides wasting outs on Frelick right now. Which isn’t to defend Ortiz but difference between him washing out of the majors and having a lengthy career as a defensive SS/utility player is a much smaller step (Orlando Arcia 10 years .239/.292/.369, Alcides Escobar 14 years .258/.295/.345) than Sal Frelick continuing long term as a starting OFer with a .698 career OPS and scuffling mightily at the plate.
  2. They really need his bat for now enough to overlook he is striking out at Hiura level proportions (39%)
  3. Maybe, but even with last year his career OPS is .699 in 1400+ career PAs
  4. Maybe Sal Frelick has maxed out his talent and he’s just not big and strong enough
  5. Maybe there was an indemnity theft at the WBC
  6. Junk reminds me of Hunter Renfroe who reminds me of JBJ which was maybe the worst contract handed up by the Brewers in the Stearns era.
  7. Wow, that’s some real hoops to bend through to support your point! Less playing time than Taylor? It’s like 40 PAs difference (660+ to 700+), that’s like 8 games difference.
  8. I remember listening to that game. Remarkably, there may not have been a game with more appearances by players who played 15+ seasons in the major leagues: Molitor, Yount, Gantner, Greg Vaughn, Surhoff, Scott Fletcher, Mike Fetters, Roberto Alomar, Dave Winfield, Joe Carter, Pat Borders, John Olerud, Jimmy Key, David Wells.
  9. He has not been even at replacement level in a half decade.
  10. Hamilton is in the game at 3rd. They pinch hit for Ortiz they don’t have any infielders left on the bench for Jones. They have other options in the OF
  11. You’re right, and most of that WAR is from Ortiz in ‘24. But hard not to be underwhelmed when you get an oft-injured long reliever and a all glove no hit SS for one of the ten best pitchers in the game at the time Orioles also got Ike Irish with the comp pick when Burnes left as a free agent. He’s the orioles #4 prospect
  12. With Hall and Ortiz on the field at the same time, can’t help but think sort of an underwhelming return for Corbin Burnes + comp pick, even if it was just one year of Burnes.
  13. Does Tyler Black need an extended chance in the majors? With nearly 1,000 AAA PAs his line is .264/.383/.423. He’s limited to corner outfield and first base: positions where is pop-gun bat with good plate discipline do not different skills than the players currently on the roster, and he was unable to beat those same players out in ST. Although I will admit the Brewers have an unacceptable number of regulars (Frelick, Ortiz, Rengifo, and Hamilton) with sub .300 SLG%. I would imagine if the Brewers believe they have someone who can out slug those players (Black?) while playing comparable defense some of those names above could find themselves in AAA or released (depending on contract status).
  14. From a practical standpoint, that probably doesn’t matter either. Pratt will be out of minor league options by opening day 2029. He then would have five full seasons of service time (‘29-‘33) before the club options. With Pratt already in AAA the chances of him accruing less than a year service time between now and opening day 2029 is slim to zero. Further, if Pratt actually did tool away mostly in the minor leagues until 2029, it probably means the club options have no chance of being exercised anyway
  15. They’re a pitching and defense team that hasn’t pitched or played defense very well the last week. That’s not a weakness it’s a performance issue.
  16. He’s has a guaranteed contract, of course it’s not tolled.
  17. Maybe, but it’s impossible to consistently win without a superstar, and equally hard to find a superstar. On top of thatThe GM probably loses his job in the next year or two, unless he threads the needle perfectly. Finally brand value, marketing etc are all significantly diminished with a trade. I’m not so sure the bucks don’t try to go for broke one more time trade the three first round picks they have, and try to clear salary in order to bring in some players like they’ve done each time. Giannis has been eligible for an extension previously.
  18. There is going to be “fluid” around any injury it’s called inflammation and part of the body’s healing process.
  19. Arnold looks like a genius when the formula is working. He looks like a buffoon with the second tier roster when it isn’t.
