  1. I think you need to wear out the idea of Bickford as a starter completely before you convert him to a pen role. He's got the stuff and the pedigree to be a successful starter. Plus, a young starting pitcher is always going to have more value as a trade chip than a reliever. Even an average minor league starter is going to have more value than a lights-out minor league reliever. That's what's make the conversion of Jorge Lopez a little bit of a buzzkill. But Bickford is still very very young, and has hasn't thrown many pitches in the Milwaukee system yet. If he can come up in the 2019/2020 range and be an effective high-leverage reliever, great! I want him starting until then.
  2. Wrong! Scooter's 2016 OPS was .728. No one, and I mean NO ONE could have seen the kind of numbers he's putting up this year. Hindsight is 20/20 though, I guess.
  3. I would guess that's because it was always the plan for Woodruff to start Friday. If he doesn't take that turn, I'll be very surprised. I think you'll see Brinson down for Woodruff following today's game. I just don't think they are real high on Jungmann right now for whatever reason. It's too bad because he's been very good in Colorado Springs. Complete turnaround from last year.
  4. As much as you hate Villar, his 2016 numbers indicate that the Brewers made the better choice. It really is too bad that he has regressed so badly this year, but Sterns made the decision based on potential. Gennett was 100% a known quantity at the time. And also prone to horrible streaky play.
  5. What about Neil Walker to fill what's turned into a black hole at 2B? A little younger than Ian Kinzler, and probably wouldn't cost much.
  6. $5 million is peanuts even for a below-average starting pitcher. There is absolutely no way the team isn't going to pick up that option. Plus, it isn't like there is a ton of youth knocking at the starting rotation door. Possibly Woodruff (lets see how he does for the rest of the year) and Hader, but the rest of the AAA and AA rotations are journeymen (Jungmann, Espino) or young guys that likely need another year (Ortiz, Burnes). If you get to next year and Garza it pitching well, and there are young guys ready to step up, you trade Garza as an inexpensive rental. Right now he is pretty cheap rotation insurance for 2018.
  7. I'm guessing Brinson gets the axe for whoever will be starting on Friday/Saturday. My guess is Woodruff finally makes his debut.

  9. I think it's a bummer that Anderson is gone so much for national gigs, but it's also a benefit that a small market team like Milwaukee has a TV play-by-play man of that caliber. Lepay is good as a fill-in, but like the others have said, it's really no contest. Not if you're talking about comparing Lepay to Coshun, that's a whole different story.
