Just wait until Fangraphs has the Cubs winning 92 games to take the division next year. Of course, the Brewers will be a close 2nd with 82 wins. (not blue ... because this is very likely IMO)

And the answer is 18-6, for an incredible 75% winning percentage in September. Congrats to @ErnieRilesBrianGiles who at 16-8 was the closest (although @torts with 24-0 was surprisingly close!) Several of us went with 15-9, which goes to show that even the most optimistic of us sometimes underestimate the wherewithal of this team. -
Logically, I agree. Wouldn't make any sense financially for him to hang them up. But he's also a guy who has a lot of pride, and its pretty easy to see how frustrated he's been this season. My head tells me he isn't going anywhere, but my gut is telling me that maybe this is it ... That said, I think he'd be a natural for a future front office role.

I am probably completely off base, but I can't help but have this feeling in the back of my mind that perhaps Yelich has let a select few in the organization know that he intends to retire after this season, and this is the organization's way of honoring him without letting the cat out of the bag. He doesn't seem like the type that would want the fanfare of a retirement tour.

Cubs. That pitching staff is atrocious. They are not playing great ball going into the playoffs. We have had good success shutting down their better hitters.

If it were possible to go below 0%, that would be my response. Patrick has been one of the team's main bullpen cogs all season. There is absolutely no chance he isn't on the playoff roster. A rough outing in a throwaway game with no stakes isn't going to change their mind.

Yes, Miz will be making one more start this season against the Cardinals this weekend. That will be a planned full start, after he made a planned short start on 3 days rest a few days ago.

The answer to that is above my pay grade. But it isn't above theirs. All I know is when your models concerning one team in particular are pretty drastically wrong year-after-year, and you are a website that prides yourself on accuracy with your predictions, something is pretty demonstrably broken. They'd probably hate the suggestion, but it likely starts with adding some sort of automatic positive regression to prospective Brewers rotation members. The teams' pitching development mechanism, at this point, has proven that it can regularly out kick its coverage.

As I've noted before, models can be adjusted. This isn't a one-off. Fangraphs has seriously underestimated the Brewers for years.

I thought Murphy said that Miz's last start was a planned short one, but that his last start this weekend would be a normal lengthened one to get him ready for the postseason?

LOL ... it was pretty well-covered at the time, and I was fully aware. And I agree it was a fun story for an organizational solider type like Pannone to defy the odds and throw a perfect game. That said, I don't think he needs you to defend him.

And? One good AAA game doesn't make him any less of a complete non-prospect organizational soldier.

The long and short of it is that they are really good, and if they so choose, can essentially coast to the finish line.

Question is ... would we trust Stallings to face the Dodgers in the NLCS? Umm ... it's still a very winnable game.

Sproat strikes me as a guy who may excel being able to come in and throw gas out of the pen. I'm not saying convert him right now, but I would consider that before cutting bait for sure.

For as much starting pitching talent the Brewers have in the majors and in the pipeline, you need to keep trying to develop guys like Harrison and Sproat simply to maintain that depth at the very least. No playoff team wants to be in the situation the Brewers themselves were in earlier this season when they were forced to call up a AAAA journeyman in Thomas Pannone for a spot start. Is it likely that both Harrison and Sproat can be turned into valuable starting pitchers longterm? Probably not. But I think there is a decent shot that one of them hits, and you hate to pick the wrong one or dump both because you were impatient.

Disagree with this. Mainly because many wanted Corbin dealt when he struggled immensely during his first extended stint in the majors. You don't give up on young pitchers with TOR-type stuff. Especially for pennies on the dollar.

Time to put Harrison in mothballs for this year, get him in the lab this offseason, and start fresh next spring. Obviously the arm talent is there, but the mentals are a mess right now.

Gonna be honest here ... unless Woody can logically serve a useful and valuable purpose, he has no business being anywhere close to the active playoff roster. I love what the guy has given the team over the years, but we have what very well may be the most complete team in the Brewers' playoff history, and it is going to take an "all hands on deck" approach, especially considering the lack of experience and MLB innings in our current rotation, to get through the Phillies and Dodgers of the world. That said, the Brewers brain trust, especially when it comes to pitching, has earned a lot of trust, and if they were to make the decision to activate Woody at any time during the upcoming playoff run, what a terrific story it would/could make.

Based on the MLB's established clinching rules, there is simply zero logic here. There is no longer such thing as a "shared" division championship or a Game 163. Choosing not to acknowledge rules doesn't mean they don't exist.
