  1. and if you really want to see how much of a crapshoots drafts are, look no further then the history of the Brewer's first round drafts. Between 1991 and 2001, Only three quality mlb players came out of those 16 picks. Geoff Jenkins, Jeff D'Amico and Ben Sheets. (and i'm stretching it a bit including D'Amico on that list.)
  2. The only mistake Beane made in that draft was to say that Prince Fielder was too fat even for the A's. I respect Beane and Moneyball but it sure was great to see Prince become THE YOUNGEST EVER TO HIT 50 HOME RUNS after getting dissed like he did in moneyball.
  3. they did have the first 3 minutes or so and then cut it off.. such a tease.
  4. this is a long shot but anyone know a way I can stream this game live without buying the mlb audio package? I'm in Seattle.
  5. I also have a kind-of-like/hate relationship with Biggio. When I saw he got his 3,000th hit, I was happy for him but then he tried to stretch that solid single into a double and was thrown out by 10 feet. It's a play most ballplayers would know not to do after middle school ball. It was the most embarrassing 3,000th hit on record.
  6. footnote: Week's .374 OBP ranks as the 8th highest by a Brewer this decade. Last year was his best year yet and he is only getting better. Don't look too heavily on .AVE when you have an great .obp. Oh yeah, and also cut his errors last year by half!
  7. I'm a little confused on the "weeks bounce back". Am I the only one who thinks that weeks had an overall good year last year? Sure, he was streaky and you would like to see come consistency but the guy had an .374 OBP. 2nd highest on the team next to Prince. Can you imagine if he batted .275? He obp would be through the roof. So if anything, I hope that weeks wrists are healthy, he keeps up the great work and gets a few more base hits. if his wrists are healthy and he maintains the same discipline at the plate, he is in line for an amazing year.
  8. Oh man, what a great pic. http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20080223/capt.4fbaf445d3f743889c097b1e17f14dfb.brewers_spring_baseball_azmg106.jpg
  9. Look at the crazy 35 days Branyan had last year between 7/28-8/31 7/28 Padres release him. 8/7 Indians sign him 8/9 Contract purchased by the Phillies. 8/31 Traded to Cardinals. 4 organizations in a little over a month. That has to be some sort of MLB record. and In just over 2 years he he been part of 6 big league organizations. (7 total if you count his 2nd go around with the Brewers now.) And talk about toying with a young man's heart.. If you count drafting him, The Indians have picked him up 3 different times. Brewers now in a close 2nd with two. Impressive.
  10. I think it's a pretty bad ass photo to tell you the truth.
  11. I really don't think anyone is giving Braun enough credit on this thread. Braun just keeps getting better. We really don't know the ceiling for this guy. In his 767 minor league at bats he had a .313 AVG with a .572 SLG. Now, he gets to the major league. The most competitive league in the world and in 451 at bats he hits .324 with a SLG of .634?!?! 62 SLG points higher in his rookie year in the bigs?! We even still do not know the limit of this guy yet! 60 HRs seems very possible.
  12. Dempster should be reminded that for team that is going to "Win the world series." He feel very lucky to even be on the team with his 4.73 ERA last year.
  13. What a great article!
  14. Kinda interesting that he will be competing for a spot on the team with one of the very players he was traded from in Nelson Cruz.

  17. I think the Royals moving to a AAA league would benefit them most.
  18. I figured it wasn't. I think this was in 1992 or 1993. The pitcher looks to be Todd Burns. Is that Dicky Thon at bat?
  19. Is that our Doug Melvin behind him? Good stuff. Also notice the usher in the background sporting those great old usher uniforms they used to wear.
  20. He always seemed to get key hits whenever he would play the Crew.
  21. No, Miller is not part of the Union.. Here is a very good article from 2002 about it.. http://espn.go.com/magazine/kurkjian_20020829.html Miller, the catcher for the Diamondbacks and one of the leaders of the team, doesn't consider himself a replacement player. He played in one "B" game that spring because he was told by his team at the time, the Twins, that he would not be punished by participating. Yet, to some degree, he still is being punished. His name was not included on the Diamondbacks' T-shirt celebrating the team's National League West title in 1999, nor on the T-shirt commemorating the 2001 World Series championship. When the Diamondbacks have met on union matters, Miller would leave the room and sit in the manager's office. How uncomfortable is that?
  22. Peterson had the single worst season by a player in 50 some years.. that is enough for me not to sign him, even if he has rebounded.

  24. I sounds harsh but I think players should have to live up to higher standards to get into the HOF if they played for tons of teams in their playing days.
