  1. I could see Watt taking a bit of a discount to play in Green Bay but I don't think he's going to play for cheap either. I also don't doubt he's going to shop around and see what's out there and who's interested and what other team's pitches would be, it's likely this will be the last time he's going to be a hotly sought after free agent. I still think he's going to prioritize winning and good odds at winning a championship I just don't think that's going to keep him from getting paid good money either.
  2. News leaked about Trevor Bauer agreeing to a contract with the Dodgers on Feb 5, he wasn't officially signed and added to their roster until yesterday which is 5 business days including the day the agreement with Bauer was reached. The Dodgers could agree to terms with Turner today and not officially add him until after the 17th or 18th pretty easily.
  3. I think there's a lot to like about Moose as a player if someone is just being a fan and not looking at the money, but yeah when he signed elsewhere for the money he did you wish him well and say thanks for the memories. I don't recall anybody here wishing the Brewers had signed him to the contract the Reds did, if there were a few they were in the minority. Or am I remembering wrong?
  4. I have my doubts about the Brewers relative interest in him as well but depending on what they'd hypothetically be trading back to the Cubs I'd bet that there'd be some salary relief built in to bring that salary lower. Also they're a year removed from paying Yasmani Grandal $18.25 million for one season so they've done it before and Bryant is a better offensive player than Grandal, though Grandal being a catcher added some extra value.
  5. Watt wearing a Wisconsin hoodie in his video address to Texans fans. Packers bound confirmed!
  6. And also whether the Packers want him which I'm going to guess they don't. If he actually wants a contender, Pittsburgh is in a lot of trouble. They're coming back worse, not better. If they part ways with Preston Smith I could see them working something out. Depends what kind of payday Watt would command on the open market. I agree that Green Bay would probably not be interested if he's seeking to maximize his market value.
  7. If he prioritizes chasing a ring it's easily GB over Pitt. Add in all the Wisconsin connections and I think playing for GB would be pretty special for him.
  8. *34 games He's been mostly outstanding otherwise.
  9. Darren Sharper just asked Freddie Mitchell to hold his beer LOL That Seattle game was terrible, but 4th and 26 was truly nightmare fuel. I both remember and don't remember that game, I remember watching the play happening and being disgusted but I don't remember the context of the game itself without looking it up. Maybe it's just been too long and I've forgotten some details but I still feel worse about losing to Seattle so my choice stands. Edit: I just read a recap of the game (it's amusing that 4th and 26 has its own Wikipedia entry) and yeah, I don't have any memories that stand out to me other than the 4th and 26 play itself and already hating Freddie Mitchell even before he caught the pass based on Badgers vs. UCLA in the Rose Bowl.
  10. That Seattle game was the worst. I remember going from feeling pretty good about getting a win, to becoming annoyed with how things were going and the Packers lack of aggression with the ball, to the horrific realization that the Packers were in real danger of blowing the game, to a stupefied silence as Russell Wilson converted that 2 point attempt. It felt like nothing was going right and all the unlikeliest things Seattle needed to even have a prayer of winning kept happening. I can't think of a worse loss in all my years of being a Packers fan.
  11. I realize that continuing to bring up Cruz comes with a mountain sized grain of salt, but he had one of his best, if not THE best, season of his career at age 38. A 3 year deal would take Turner through age 38. There's always reason for concern with advanced age but there's a chance he could be pretty good for 2 if not all 3 of a hypothetical 3 year contract. Again I go to his plate discipline and understanding of the strike zone to find a reason for optimism there. Ryan Braun hasn't had a comparable season to Turner since his age 32 season in 2016 and the Brewers paid him $80 million over the 4 years since then and people here still want him back.
  12. I'd do a 3 year contract for Turner in a heartbeat. As has been said, not quite expecting Nelson Cruz but Turner has been a slightly better hitter than Cruz through the meat of his career (minus the power which evens it up nicely for Cruz) but in AVG/OBP and look at his strikeout numbers. While the HRs are low he hits plenty of doubles. He's the dream. Which is why I think the Dodgers would be nuts to let him go.
  13. Isn't there a Vent thread where this should go instead of cluttering up several other threads with it?
  14. Why do the Brewers have to knock them off? What if they lose before then? Big payrolls lose all the time in the playoffs. Case in point, the Dodgers themselves. 1 WS title since the 80s and probably around $1 billion spent on payroll in the last 5 years.
  15. Has there ever been a player in creation that didn't say he was in the best shape of his life at whatever point in the offseason? Bartolo Colon maybe? Do I win anything if I'm right?
  16. I'm 1000% ok with the Packers not signing Antonio Brown. That's not the way I want to win a Super Bowl. Communication with Rodgers on player moves? Eh, I'm not against it but if they're not going to make his input anything like a priority then it's all lip service and Rodgers is more than smart enough to know that. I truly don't think Rodgers wants to be babied that way if it ultimately means zilch. I don't think anybody in the Packers front office hangs up in Rodgers' face if he initiates a call and says, "So and so is out there as a free agent, what are our chances of going after him and does he fit the plan you guys have?" I think they'd listen to him and give him as straight of an answer as they could. I don't get the impression from Rodgers' comments that he's made those types of calls or requests.
  17. I think Tampa's strength isn't just their defense, it's when the team is able to get out to a lead, not just a one score lead but a 2 score type advantage it enables them to just go off on defense and play attack football. That's what I admire about them. That's coaching and philosophy as much as having the talent. Tampa Bay was better than the Packers on game day both times. I didn't really get the sense they were so much better than the Packers though. I was pretty unimpressed with their offense in the NFCCG. Brady threw several Hail Marys that connected. Then the Packers had that horrible stretch where Rodgers throws an INT with :30 seconds left in the 2nd quarter and TB is able to get the killer TD before the half, then GB gets the ball to start the 3rd and Jones fumbles and TB gets another quick TD. Super Bowl suicide. Choke job extraordinary. Gift wrap that present for a decent team but I won't call them better. All I can do is shake my head over all the credit Tom Brady is getting for Tampa's championship. I didn't watch the game Sunday because I couldn't stomach it, but him getting the SB MVP makes me laugh.
  18. Yay Tom Brady won his 37rd Super Bowl so interesting zzzzzzzz..
  19. I keep seeing this. I guess I need someone to explain this to me like I was 5 years old why a bad defender that plays 2nd base becomes the lynchpin of the coming apocalypse if he shifts to playing 1st base? Is it simply that he'll be involved in more plays? Aren't most of those plays going to be routine "put foot on bag, catch easy throw for out"? Its not just the fielding a BBIP but how's he going to do on pickoff attempts? Ball thrown a little off and suddenly runner on 3rd or scores. Certainly with Milwaukee pitching he's got at least 1 less defensive play on a BBIP since Brewers pitchers K rate is so high. At same time they do walk a high amount. Correct me if I'm wrong but pickoff attempts at 2nd base are also a thing and seem like a more difficult execution than pickoffs at 1B. Concerns over his moving to 1B are way overblown IMO. I'm not saying there shouldn't be a baseline level of doubt but the team was already absorbing a percentage of risk playing him at 2B, I just don't know that the risk becomes significantly greater with a move to 1B and it's possible it ends up reducing that original risk.
  20. Deesha @DeeshaThosar Mets should get an answer on Trevor Bauer’s decision today, per a source. This from a Mets beat reporter.

  22. If I had to play a bad fielder and my choices were 2nd base or 1st base I'd choose 1st base every time. Stand there like a tree and catch balls that are thrown to you is 90% of the job description.
  23. I was in the right place, but it must have been the WONG time!
  24. Considering the Brewers signed Sogard to a $4.5 million deal before the start of last season I like this signing so much more. He should be solid offensively, great defensively and be an all around good asset. Refreshing. I'm not thrilled with the prospect of Hiura being a potential trade piece, I'm not against trading him but his value is definitely at its lowest point after his struggles in 2020. I supposed his value is only marginally lower though so it might not be quite so bad.
  25. Other than the fact that a major league baseball club hired her? Whether you agree with the quality of the hire or not, she was hired. There are some pretty smart people running this organization. I'd think that would tip the scales more towards "yes she'll be good" than "no she won't" until proven otherwise.
