  1. How is that optimistic? Here's how it's optimistic, the Stearns is a terrible GM and Attanasio is a cheapskate owner talk subsides in direct proportion
  2. Once again highlighting the Brewers' good fortune that circumstances led to them getting Yelich for around $200 million.
  3. That's what bugged me. Apparently not catching everyday was going to hurt his value. How? That makes no sense. It's not like he was going to forget how to catch playing some games at firstbase. I think if anything it would increase his value if he could show the versatility to play another position not to mention he would save some wear on his body by not catching as much which would probably extend his career and therefore his earning potential. I really don't care if he didn't care about winning, the vast majority of professional athletes don't give a rip about the final score as long as the check clears. The Indians didn't win the World Series that season so by this logic I guess he should have been lobbying to be traded to the Cubs and only the Cubs. The Rangers literally finished with the best record in the AL that season. Anything can happen in the playoffs. A guy can want to play for a winner AND prefer a more desirable situation for his career at the same time. He got both. Lucroy was a catcher, his free agent value was as a catcher, the Indians wouldn't commit to giving him playing time as a catcher and told him straight out that he'd have to compete with Yan Gomes to be the #1 catcher going into the next season. Again, not great news for a guy that needed to log a full season as a starting catcher to establish his value in free agency. Gomes had been fairly unremarkable in his career up to that point, especially compared to Lucroy's career, and went on to post a .708 OPS in 2017 for the Indians. This feels really, really simple. I guess it's not real simple for everyone.
  4. I kinda feel like the Packers want to move on from Rodgers sooner rather than later. I could be wrong and it's not like I'm rooting for his departure but just the way they've approached this off season causes me to feel like he plays this season and maybe next but not any longer. Unless he takes them all the way to a Super Bowl victory, then I think they have no choice except to commit to him. I'm really interested to see Love get some playing time this pre-season. He's been such a mystery it has to be one of the most anticipated events in the entire NFL this year.
  5. I believe the Bucks have (or had) 2 open roster spots.
  6. It's kinda tough right now with Portis playing so well, but I have higher hopes for Tucker. If nothing else, wasn't he one of the best defenders against KD in the NBA? Tucker, Jrue, two guys who play better in the postseason. That's reason for optimism. Don't get me wrong I think Tucker is a great add. But when you look at how Bud manages playing time only 3 guys average 30+ mpg, Giannis, Khris & Jrue. Even then Giannis is playing more minutes this season than he was the last two. It's just how it is. Lopez & DDV are getting 27 mpg and everyone else is 22 mpg or under. I'd expect Tucker to be in the 18 to 20 mpg range mostly for his defense. It's possible he gets more but you gotta think they'll be adding another guard to replace Augustin so that will be another guy to fit into the rotation.
  7. So Devin Williams hits a batter in his appearance, didn't really think much of it, the inning continues and I forget about it. Inning ends, commercial break and the Brewers begin their half inning. First batter gets beaned in the leg. I kinda tilt my head puzzled because it looked like one of those intentional unintentional HBP and I can't fathom why at first but then Schroeder mentions the Brewers hit a batter and immediately I just roll my eyes. Tony friggin LaRussa. What a tool. He's just so petty and predictable. It's just a spring training game, settle down old geezer.
  8. It's been a while since I've attended a game, how does the "no cash" thing work with beer, hot dog, etc. vendors that walk the rows/sections?
  9. I think Tucker will need some time to get used to the offense but even then I think he'll play fewer minutes than he did in Houston where he was getting 30 - 34 min/game. He's been a 6 to 7 PPG guy at that usage level, that will decline in proportion to his minutes played. Defense, rebounding and the occasional corner 3 is going to be his game. I expect less scoring than even Matthews provided.
  10. I wonder if they could come up with a more premium charge for getting your team's games w/o blackout penalties. It would have to be expensive I'm sure but there's probably a decent number of people that would pay it. If the RSNs were compensated using the premium charge fee maybe it could work?
  11. Yes this is, I think, where many are in regards to King, that he should definitely not be the only move. I think a lot of us are expecting they address the position in the draft at the very least. But I guess I could see harsher critics of the move feeling like the Packers seem to be on another planet when it comes to expected moves in the draft. Hopefully they don't throw us another curve ball but I feel like they've never been shy about drafting CBs in the past. OSS I get what you're saying too, I think there are a handful of guys I'd feel pretty bad about losing from this team, King definitely wasn't one of them. I'm hoping the plan isn't just bringing him back and keeping things status quo. New DC so we'll see.
  12. King is fine. Could he be upgraded, sure. He plays opposite Alexander, stands to reason teams will challenge King more. He hasn't been a sieve where teams score huge plays at will against time after time after time. R-E-L-A-X (this is not to suggest that discussion about him should not take place but it feels a little dramatic at times)
  13. Still having trouble adjusting to that whole "get used to the idea of Arcia getting fairly regular playing time" I see I mean, even in a platoon he gets the smaller end of playing time so I'm not sure why this is such horrible news. To me the bad news is we're going to have a strikeout machine getting a ton of starts in the middle of the order, at least when Arcia plays he's usually batting 8th.
  14. A little surprised nobody has mentioned this but saw an article on ESPN that confirms Hader will be mostly used as a traditional closer this season. I know most believed this would be the way things go but to have Counsell and Hader both talking about it brings a level of finality to it. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/31122019/milwaukee-brewers-try-keep-josh-hader-traditional-ninth-inning-closer-role
  15. He has an opinion, from somewhere I'm not sure where, that Cain is a chronically injured player. I'm truly at a loss where this is coming from. He played more total games than Christian Yelich over the course of the '18 & '19 seasons and opted out of '20 but not because of injury. But hey, whatever narrative floats your boat. Oblique strains aren't odd injuries for baseball players, neither are groin strains which landed Cain on the 10 day DL in 2018. Yelich also landed on the DL in 2018 by the way, with, you guessed it, an oblique injury. As far as I know Cain doesn't have back issues that flare up on him like they do for Yelich from time to time. He's got the thumb thing which can be treated with cryotherapy the same as Braun's thumb was. Braun isn't out of baseball right now because his body won't let him be productive, it's that he only wants to play for the Brewers and the Brewers likely don't want to pay him enough to make it worth his while.
  16. I think I lean more to "sometimes good teams lose" rather than "good teams lose because they didn't make enough moves." Different sport but the same premise, the Dodgers and Yankees are going to outspend most other teams in the league year over year but chances are they're not going to win, or even make it to, the World Series every year. At some point you have to win with what you've got.
  17. I'm curious if there's a signing bonus and how much it is. While it's extremely likely King makes the team he does still have to actually make the team before the salary is guaranteed.
  18. Are you Cain's doctor? Because I have no idea where you get off stating as fact his body is failing. It's laughable. Maybe let's wait to watch the guy play before shopping around for homes where he can be placed with assisted living. Meanwhile, they have Garcia, they signed JBJ, Derek Fisher might just have had a roster spot locked up but got hurt and Billy McKinney is still in the mix. Not to mention David Robinson as an emergency guy. Cain isn't the guy holding Taylor back. Taylor isn't going to break camp on the 26 man because he's not top six on the depth chart and Stearns made a point to bring in several other guys because he wanted better options. The number 1 reason is that they most likely want him to keep getting consistent at bats and being the 5th OF in Milwaukee he'd get very sporadic playing time. Nope, not a doctor, but anyone who watches this team on a regular basis can see where Cain is headed. In 2019, he acted and moved like he was in constant pain. You think that is going to be any better 2 seasons later? He's old in MLB terms, not real life. Assisted living is a bit of a stretch. He is inured frequently, and there is just no way we get value from him these next two seasons. I like Cain, I really do, but the guy will be hurt a lot imho. I'd like Taylor to get a legit chance to succeed on this roster, and he will probably be able to up and down all season due to Cain's injuries. Sorry to offend you. I wouldn't call it offense, flabbergasted is more like it. But I get it now, just very extreme and totally separated from reality bias. Cain's injuries. Wow.

  20. To clear up what you need to watch on Spectrum, I believe it's the Select cable tier. Spectrum Choice and Spectrum Essentials are their "streaming" options but neither allow you to watch the Brewers/Bucks. With the Select or higher tier you get FSN Wisconsin, soon to be Bally's Wisconsin, and you can watch via the Spectrum app if you don't want a cable box. I would think you would be able to use the Fox Sports Go app (or whatever they're going to call it) if your Roku doesn't have the Spectrum app. My plan has been to not play the switcheroo game but I've been kicking around the idea of doing AT&T TV for one month to begin the season. The allure of opening day is nearly irresistible, if I do a month that should satisfy the itch that comes with enduring the long baseball off season. I was never really one that tuned in for every single game anyway so I know I'll get by. If they play well enough to be exciting during a playoff run I could revisit at that point. That's the beauty of subscribing and cancelling with the click of a button and not have to endure phone calls with cable's garbage customer service.
  21. Exactly! Not sure that would be enough.
  22. I think King has gotten a bit of a bum rap but I don't feel that strongly about him to disagree too much with those that want to move on from him. I'm just saying I don't think it would be the end of times if he came back. AB on the other hand... Not with a 42-1/2 foot pole. I don't trust him to not be a total headcase, distraction and waste of time and money.
