  1. I thought Enigma was a fine brew. Actually, I could drink that by the bucket. Picked up Ale Asylum's Bedlam and gave it a ride. It's their version of a Belgian IPA. Which would make it an American Belgian IPA. An interpretation of an interpretation? I know Belgian IPA's are hot right now, but I'm not sure how I feel about this. Anyway, enough of my drivel. The beer had all the qualities of a fine double IPA, though I couldn't figure out which characteristics were resultant from the Belgian influence. Truth be told, I've loved Supper Club this summer. Tastes great after mowing the lawn.
  2. I live only three miles from the office, so I've been trying to bike a couple times a week. I've yet to hit on the perfect arrangement for taking my stuff with me, but I'll work it out. That being said, I really don't like feeling sweaty when I get to the office.
  3. 6/3 7/22 Sorry about the late notice for tonight.
  4. Do you really think Witrado could put together a coherent paragraph?More than anything, what I find really interesting is how long management can engage in these types of arguments (or cliches as Rluz demonstrated) and expect the public to take them hook-line-and-sinker. I'm sure that we could find a number of different reasons as to why this is the case, but there's only one that really matters: it works. It's frustrating to me because it smacks of condescension but as long sound bytes are what rules the day, cheap answers will get endless play in newspapers and on the radio and on international cable sports networks. They're more than happy to take my money for the product, but as soon as questions are raised about how and why things occur, we're kept at a distance by mysterious things like "unwritten rules," "the book," "the right way to play the game," or just your average "good baseball man." As long as they can find something to draw our attention with something dazzling, we'll eventually look away from the man behind the curtain.
  5. It may be funny... but shouldn't we be giving him some credit? We are so quick to bash Macha (and Melvin) when things go bad, but when it turns around, they get ignored. I'm not saying I'm a Macha lover, but we should at least be fair in how we treat him. I thought rluz's post was suppose be in blue. I was confused for a second. To be honest I don't know how much Macha should be to blame in the first place, other than Hawkins in the 8th inning cubs debacle. Most of the bashing tends to be from an emotional/frustrated response. I noticed in my time that when a team goes bad it is the manger/general manager/coaches fault, when a team does well it is the player's doing. I would like to know if anyone is aware of way to statistical measure of how many games a manager can win or lose versus a norm or an expected?Indeed. Rluz's post is satirical jab - at the very least - about the cliched analysis we usually get about a manager's influence over a team. Witrado himself could have written that. Rluz, are you Anthony Witrado?
  6. By and large, it's great! Towards the end of last summer the speedo died, but fortunately I found another one almost immediately. I've only had it out once this year so far, but I'm thrilled to have the whole summer to ride this year. I didn't get used to the interstate last summer. That's going to take some time. I think I'd like to add a windscreen and some bags at some point as it looks as though this might be my machine for a bit. That being said, I would not be opposed to something with more power for 2-up riding.
  7. Feel free to use me in the OF and 1B too.
  8. I think I'm free for a scrimmage. Add me to the list. If something changes, I'll let you know.
  9. I bought it long enough ago now where it doesn't fit me all that well anymore. This spring I bought my first road bike and I'm loving that (I can't wait until I build up the ability to do some long distances). The new one is a Fischer AR Super. Not this year's model, but last year's model. Anyhow, I thought I'd sell it to help finance clips and shoes for the new bike. I'd love to have a mountain bike available to keep things interesting, but this one is just a bit to small for me anymore.
  10. I'd like to sell my mid-1990's Trek 850 mountain bike. I'm pretty sure I bought it in 1996. How does one go about figuring out how much to sell a bike for? It's in very good condition and I just had it cleaned up this year. Thoughts? Suggestions?
  11. So what would be the best bar near the BC to take in the game tonight? I usually just watch at home, but thought that tonight it could be cool be be on the scene for the big game.
  12. Back in March Haudricourt had an update about Butler's elbow. Has anyone heard if he's making progress in his recovery?
  13. maybe its me, but I feel when the players put pressure on the org to move them up, Melvin get antsy and deals them if he doesnt have an immediate opening... like dealing Nelson Cruz for a bag of balls.. I seem to remember that part of the issue there was Cruz's age. Because of that, it seemed to me there was doubt as to the strength of his prospect-ness at the time. Couple that with Corey Hart's burgeoning game and it's not too hard to see how Melvin made the decision he did. Even so, it seems to me that it's a really fine line a GM has to walk when it comes to maximizing the value of abundant talent in trade and losing value because the whole league knows you're at an organizational impasse at a certain position.
  14. Many good thoughts to read this morning. I do indeed agree that neither one should be traded. In asking the question I was just trying to get a feel for how the log jam might be dealt with. If it does pan out where the Brewers can manage to keep both for another 2-3 years until the best one emerges, that would be pretty awesome. Hopefully Salome will stay healthy and really continue to make this a fun competition to watch. Do you suppose they'll do the same thing with our developing 3B situation? I love it when our young guys put pressure on the organization to keep moving them up. Good problems to have. Is Green destined to stay in AA all year no matter what he does with Gamel at AAA and Casey in MKE?
  15. I sit here tonight wondering what people think about how the organization might choose to deal with Salome and Lucroy. Is there any chance that either one of them gets called up this year? The season is very early, but Lucroy is off to a fine start to prove that he really doesn't belong at AA (which seems to be the way the organization likes to handle promotions). Honestly, how could they reward success by either catcher at this point? Seems like the 25 man roster is set for the season with Zaun and Kottaras. Anyone have thoughts or insights on this? I much prefer these types of organizational issues to the kind we had 8 - 10 years ago when the cupboard was really bare.
  16. Just wanted to report back. We ended up at Uncle Mike's Highway Pub in Kenosha as it was of great convenience for the both of us. The beer list was worth going for. The multiple TV's w/ sports games was great. The Brewers game was even great until the 8th inning. I thought the food was pretty typical for a sports bar. But, when you haven't had the chance to hang out with a buddy in 5 1/2 years, it all really proved to be good enough. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.
  17. Awesome stuff! Keep 'em coming.
  18. Friday night I have the chance to hang out with a long time friend of mine who lives out of state, the catch, is that we need to connect in Kenosha. I know nothing about Kenosha. Do you all have any good suggestions as to where to grab a brew, some decent food, and watch the game? My preference is for good local places instead of chains. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!
