  1. I just had the pleasure of hanging out at Surgar Maple in Bayview for a little bit. It was my first time there and well, I'd really been intending on heading to Cafe Centraal until the Dogfish Head beer sign in the window caught my attention. My first brew was a Bell's Hopslam which was outstandlingly good. It's amazing you could get in IPA with that many BTUs to be so drinkable. Kudos to Bells on that one. I was thrilled that they had Weyerbacher's (from Easton, PA) Double Simcoe IPA (which you really ought to sample if you love hops) and Heresy Imperial Stout on tap. But, for my second brew I went for Furthermore's Thermorefer and I do have to say that I admired their brewing spirit on that beer. Made with beets and black pepper it really reminded me (flavor wise) of a saison. Body wise it was much heavier than I was expecting. The flavor makes this beer worth it. I'd definately buy more.
  2. Another beer I liked at HNP was Dogfishhead 60 Minute IPA. Didn't like the 90 min. I'm with you on 60 minute but not the 90. I think 90 is a wonderful, wonderful beer that I've not had enough of. Maybe I've just been going through a hop craving phase that hasn't been satisfied yet.
  3. So I was out last night with a buddy and was thrilled to discover Three Floyds Alpha King on tap at Hooligans. It's only the second time I've had it and only the first time on tap, but I've got to say, it was a bit less "big" than I remembered it being. Don't get me wrong, it was quite tasty, but it didn't live up to my memory of it. Maybe I'll have to go back and give it another try... At the moment I'm enjoying my final bottle of New Glarus's Alt. Since my return to Wisconsin this is by far the best seasonal I've had (and I've just gotten started!). Every time I have this beer I fall for it all over again.
  4. I really appreciated ready this today:as it provided a lot of detail about Scarpetta's situation that I don't think had been brought to light yet. I seem to remember at some point last season reading on BF.net about the voiding of his original contract, but this really casts everything in a different light. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090302&content_id=3908276&vkey=news_mil&fext=.jsp&c_id=mil
  5. Alpha King is fantastically good. I can't wait to get my hands on some soon.
  6. After what I experienced at games one and two, there's no way I could possibly cheer for Philly. Many people have noted that the Brewers needed to earn the respect of Philly, but honestly, I'm not sure that if we'd won the series they'd have given it. Philly fans don't even give respect to their own players. They do not know compassion or how to root for the underdog. They have space in their heart for only one team and they do not know how to lose...or win with class and humility. I hope the Dodgers whoop them and then meet the Rays in the Series.
  7. I was at both games in Philly and I felt that the fans there put on a clinic not only on how to get loud, but when to get loud. They did not miss an opportunity to get on their feet and scream their heads off. I experienced a good amount of behavior at Citizen's Bank Park that was not dignified in anyway, but I give them extremely high marks for not missing a chance to cheer on their team. If their pitcher had two strikes on one of our guys, they were up and cheering. If one of their hitters fought back to even the count, the were up cheering. Runner on base? The put up ear blistering decibels. You guys get the idea. And aside from the cheering, they absolutely let the Brewers know that they were not welcome at all.
  8. Yup, I'll be there in the 300 level on the first base side.
  9. Living in southeast PA, the fans and the media are pretty much giving us the Bushville treatment and making no bones about looking past us to the NLCS. Aside from the silliness of the "mock" sausage race and faux-Randall Simon, I'd have to say that the Phillies fans were pretty much "as advertised" for the game yesterday. I've lived in the Philly area for a long time and have attended many Phillies games and every time, I'm reminded about why I don't try and make it down for more games: the company sucks. They didn't behave any differently than they typically do. My wife and I sat one section to the right of the left-field foul pole and were taunted pretty well, along with having junk tossed on us from the seats that were higher up from us. I know that Brewers fans and Midwesterners can be far from model in how they treat others at sporting events, but, my usual sense is that we give other fans a lot of rope to hang themselves with before we get sucked in to petty chicanery. Philly fans just get in your face right from the get go and they revel in their obnoxiousness. It'd be nice to see the crew shut these folks up today by thoroughly thrashing the Phillies. I'll be there again taking my abuse but cheering my heart out for our team.
  10. Since WAMU is FDIC insured, you probably don't need to be concerned about your money unless you've got more than $100,000 with them. HSBC's online banking has a great savings APY right now and have heard people speak very highly of their experience with them. I've got an ING savings account that I love so far. They also offer an interest bearing checking account.
  11. Athough the self check-out lanes are convenient, I refuse to use them. It's my own mini-protest against the decline of good customer service. If I have to check my own groceries and bag them, the store needs to be giving me a much better discount than they're already doing.
  12. Chichen Itza is an amazing place. The day I visited though, it was about 110 degrees and I thought I'd spontaneously combust. Man, it was brutal in the shade that day.
  13. Did we get Cody in the Capellan trade? If so, I know it's still really early, but there's a chance here that we've "Villanueva-ed" the Tigers.
  14. Jamie, I've been barbecuing for a while on a Weber Smokey Mountin Cooker (vertical smoker w/water pan) and probably the best site I've found for exactly what you're looking for is www.bbqu.net. It's the website of Steven Raichlen who had a PBS cooking show. His written some great books, but there is loads of info on that site as well as a killer discussion board where you can get all the bbq tips and talk you can handle.
  15. So I found myself killing some time this afternoon at baseball-reference.com. Does anyone know if Santo Manzanillo is related to Josias Manzanillo who pitched our of the pen for us back in 1993?
  16. thats from indian ink..... i dont get why so many of those guys think that the brewers would give up there only (IMO) true pitching prospect (like future ace 1-2 pitcher) along with laporta and green, i mean aft jeffress we have just a bunch of bottom rotation guys. Alex Periard, Zack Braddock, Evan Anundsen, Aumary Rivas, Cody Scarpetta, Evan Fredrickson, Jake Odorizzi, and Seth Lintz beg to differ with you (and these are just the first names that popped into my head). You're right that Jeffress is the highest ceiling young arm in the system, but to write these other fellows off as "bottom of the rotation guys" isn't quite accurate at this point (at least I don't think so)
  17. Since he isn't on the DL, it would basically be the equivalent of trading someone who missed a few days for personal reasons or something, wouldn't it? Unless there is some rule I don't know of, which is certainly a possibility. I guess I was wondering if there was a rule about it or not. It makes sense that you can't trade a player on the DL, so it seems to me that there might be hurdles to jump if you wanted to trade an injured player not on the DL, if you could even do it at all.
  18. I'm pretty sure that you can't trade a player if he's on the DL, but can you trade an injured player who's not on the DL? I'm just thinking outloud after some of the posts a couple pages back speculating that Brantley could be included in the deal.
  19. Actually, it's even better with Anundsen starting too. Evan is quietly putting together a very, very nice season at WV and is certainly worth following.
  20. My bad on that. I should have looked it up. I can't believe that I forgot though that the trade included the six-fingered man.
  21. By "Bigheado", I assume you're referencing Zambrano. If I'm not mistaken, he was part of the D-Train trade and came to Chicago from the Marlins.
  22. I'm pretty sure that Prince's signing was handled by his dad. I'm not sure though about when Boras became his agent. I would suspect that some type of deal has been worked out in regards to this.
  23. I'm pretty excited with McClung's efforts as a starting pitcher. Looking back over his career, it's as if the coaching staff has found a way to channel 1.25 gigawatts into the flux capacitor.
  24. You beat me to the punch, logan3825. I was just coming here to make a post to this effect.
  25. Brian would be a fine option, however, I think that Geno could pull it off in spades in one of his glorious rants.
