  1. I share this perspective. Use him as opener to and claim advantage of what he’s giving you rather than waiting to see if a spot to use him emerges in an unfolding game.
  2. I recall Rottino noting this in a broadcast right around Vaughn's call-up.
  3. I found brewerfan.net back when Doug Davis represented organizational improvement. These seasons amaze me.
  4. I've got a load of sets (factory and hand sets), decent individual cards (highlight is a '56 Jackie Robinson), and some decent autographs. My strong preference would be to sell everything together for the sake of time (and my sanity). If you'd like to know more details, send me a message.
  5. Any suggestions on the best way to get it appraised?
  6. Thanks for the insight, TheCrew07. I always enjoy reading your minor league assessments. There's a limit to what I can glean from the stats line (with young guys I typically pay the most attention BB and K rates), so it's nice to hear first hand accounts.
  7. Anyone have any information about the pitches Wagner throws? Velocity? Any deeply knowledgable minor league disciples have a strong opinion about what his future could be like? Nice to see him having such a successful season.
  8. Might have been even better if it had been the Episode IV Han line when he and Luke fend off the Tie-Fighters and after Luke's shoots one and yells in celebration, Han responds, "Great…don't get too cocky!".
  9. I know we've got organizational need at 1B, anyone think he's defensively able at 3B? On the heels on Tony Gwynn's death, I'll admit I've caught myself looking at Zarraga's stat line getting pretty deep into some future production day dreaming.
  10. Pulp Fiction, Lebowski, City Slickers, Young Frankenstein.
  11. I've recently taken possession of all my old cards and memorabilia from my parents house and don't want it it my house for long. Any tips on how to go about getting decent appraisals of the collection so I don't have to go card by card myself?
  12. I have many favorites, but I think that "Colonel Angus" with Christopher Walken was crushingly good.
  13. Ariel Speedwagon....write that down. Awesome This made my morning.
  14. Couldn't figure this one out for the life of me because I wouldn't bring myself to believe that a "Little Mermaid" reference came to mind that easily for you
  15. Thanks for the offer; I'll be sure to be in touch if that's the route I end up needing to take.
  16. Thanks, I've got those already. The bases of the bobbles are pretty tough for drilling. Also, I definitely want some kind of base that he bobble will be mounted on. What I'm imagining are tap handles that resemble baseball bats with the bobbles mounted on top.
  17. Could any of you in the Milwaukee area recommend a carpenter that does small, custom jobs? I want to repurpose my bobble heads as tap handles for my keggerator.
  18. Since this thread is about being obnoxious and over the top, let's dream big: what happens if Braun wins the Triple Crown? Geez I'd love him to put the writers in a bind like that after they way they shabbily reported info over the winter.
  19. Huge fan of Pastiche Bistro in Bay View.
  20. No, I don't think. Just being cynical, but I probably should have added some more thoughts to my post to clarify. I do get his point. What I find troublesome is how players who (unfortunately) skirt rules - whatever they may be - become scapegoats for a system that's got plenty of issues to go around. Obviously that doesn't absolve them of their offense and they're dealt with in myriad ways as spelled about by the labor agreements. It's tiresome to me that the Hall is used to represent some sort of public shunning - a punishment not handed down my MLB but by other participants in the industry. My preference would be that the Hall tell the story of the game and it's best performers - worts and all - and be OK with that, recognizing that the story is insanely compelling (beautiful and tragic) and set aside the judgment aspect. But, as that is not the purpose of the Hall, I guess "in vs out" debates will rage as long as the game stands. Lastly, it was good to read the posts re: Shoeless Joe's actual performance in relation to his inclusion/ exclusion in the Hall vs all the other stuff as it's what you generally hear about.
  21. But they can set up an financially lopsided system for teams to compete in, allow owners to tank teams like the Pirates and the Marlins, and ask fans to suspend disbelief that it doesn't matter while telling them that parity exists. They sell that to great success. I don't believe that the system is on the up and up at all.
  22. I loved the Couch to 5k running program/app. Was a great system for getting off my rear. I think it was three days a week. You can repeat weeks if you need to. Around the time I did that I also bought a bike and started going for multiple rides a week. Started short and and gradually built distance. I'd say that the biggest consideration is that she actually ENJOY what she's doing. If that's absent, long term commitment might be tough to establish.
  23. Blacktop is excellent. I still think the best example I've ever had is from Boundary Bay, but I'd love to put that to the test in a head-to-head tasting. I'm thankful for a lot of things in my life, not the least of which is having the good fortune to live in the midst of a beer renaissance in the US in the early 21st century. We are lucky. Very, very lucky. It's never been a better time to be a beer lover.
  24. The older I get the less emotional I become in my attachment to the game while growing in viewing MLB and the Brewers as a product. Every off season I've begun asking myself whether or not this product warrants my time and money. Baseball is far and away my favorite sport, but for reasons already articulated in this thread, deciding not to patronize this system isn't that far of a leap for me. Even with the improved owernship and some positive seasons, I sense I'm on the fence every year regarding my continued support. As long as MLB is seeing record profits, there is no incentive for the owners to change a single thing. The only thing that can force their hand is loss of revenue. This is what makes me re-think my fandom all the time.
