    Maybe, but he could also be totally full of it. I sincerely wish you're right, but he could just be a guy monitoring the rumors and then making something up that seems realistic.

    ....so how do we feel about 3/52.5, if that's true? Also, Rydquist just tweeted that Arizona's MBB coach will resign in about 20 minutes. We'll find out how accurate his sourced info is pretty soon.

    I think it's just common sense that these guys will sign sooner than later. They'll want to get into camp and be ready for the opening of the season. Arrieta seems to be holding things up at this point - but even with Boros as an agent - he'll eventually want to get signed. Is there an average time that it takes for a pitcher to get ready for the start of the season? I'm assuming no or that it may not matter with how stiff negotiations have been, but it's worth an ask.

    Woodruff might work as well. He could step right into the rotation. This isn't to suggest that the Rays are more likely to deal Archer, right? You guys are just speculating on the potential package?

    I’m annoyed by the lack of movement in general, but I won’t lose patience until the Brewers see a lot of moves pass them by. I have a high level of trust in Stearns and haven’t had that burned too badly yet. I do admit that it’s hard to stay patient because I like the energy that a trade or signing brings, but it’s all I can be right now. I suppose anxious is the most accurate word for how I feel now.

    I like the Phillies as well, but I wasn't quite ready to put them in one of the slots. I like how they seem to have things in good order with Klentak and Kapler. Of course, that could make things a little more difficult for the Brewers, but I enjoy more competition.

    Totally get it, but don't say I didn't warn you with the title of the thread No, I get it. I like prediction threads and can't wait till we do a "Brewer Leaders" one for stats/titles. Just feels really really early for it. 100% understandable. It is too early. From my end, I'm okay with doing it now for fun and then seeing what moves in Spring alter my predictions. As a defect of sorts from the Bucks universe, I'm very eager to chat Brewers and this is the result of that.

    With 'baseball' on TV tomorrow, I figure it would be a good time for a futile exercise in predicting who will make it to October. Because what better time to predict future success than before the first exhibition game? Also, I'm bored, so let's just have some fun. As far as the Brewers are concerned, you can add whatever qualifiers you'd like. It doesn't have to be as it stands right now.     The only similarities between Archer and Yelich is the amount of control and a below market contract. Archer is not young. He'd be under contract through his mid-thirties, while Yelich is under contract for the rest of his prime years. Not to mention pitchers are much more volatile in general. Archer would be a far bigger risk than Yelich was. And while Yelich was costly in terms of prospects, while the Rays definitely could come down from their asking price, I think Archer may end up costing more in prospects. You all have made very valid counterpoints. No disagreements with what you said. Yelich wasn't a great comparison. I admit that I like Archer and think he's really good, so I'd be willing to pay. I could be very wrong, though.

    Don't know if anyone has asked so my apologies if I'm repeating, but are we assuming that the 'soon' was NOT passed by with the 3-team deal? Just looking for your opinion; I doubt your source would be able to clarify.

    I think it's fair to say that giving up a lot for Archer is a huge risk and makes you feel very hesitant. I also think it's easy to make a case for why a, b, c, and d is too much for the value of Archer and talk yourself out of it. But like...a pitcher of Archer's caliber (which I would argue is objectively good and probably really good) likely being available at a cheaper rate and with several years of control is rare. It may not be a no-brainer for valid reasons, but the Brewers aren't going to have unlimited opportunities like this. This reminds me of the Yelich deal, to be honest. The Brewers didn't necessarily need to go out and get him, but you aren't going to be in a position to acquire young, controllable star talent every single time. I don't necessarily see this as the Brewers seeing identifying their window to compete as much as it is their window to acquire the talent to compete now and going forward. tl;dr - it will hurt, but do it

    So with this Odorizzi trade, I have two questions that I hope to make as specific as possible: 1) Does it make the chances that Tampa trades Archer any more likely? (To be clear, I'm talking about the likelihood of any trade, not the price moving at all). 2) If I may be honest, I forgot what my second question was.

    I like the way that's worded. It doesn't suggest that Stearns thinks that Cobb is necessarily the missing piece to the rotation. I'd argue that he sees getting Cobb at a price they're comfortable with as taking advantage of an opportunity like you said. Extra talent at reasonable value can't hurt.

    Should be Woodruff as I just copied from the previous post. Yes I do. Woodruff is 25. He has the stuff, he performed over that level last year if you scale his innings to ~160 even when he had a bad end of the year (likely tired due to his longest season). I am not against signing Cobb, I have advocated signing him in multiple posts as long as we don't overpay for the production he brings. I think he is excellent insurance against delayed Nelson recovery/performance and to keep us close going into the trade deadline where I hope we add that TOR starter through a trade. But at some point in the near future we will have younger alternatives that could out-produce him at a fraction of the cost. Cobb wouldn't be replacing Woodruff in the rotation. He'd be replacing the 5-headed monster of Suter/Guerra/Wilkerson/Gallardo/Lopez, knocking the other guys down a spot. I think Woodruff is the #5 with a Cobb signing. When Nelson comes back, if everyone is still healthy, you kick whoever is performing poorest to the pen. Those type of situations typically have a way of working themselves out. I think if adding Cobb and maybe another arm makes your rotation too deep, then I'll find a way to be okay with that.

    I don't know who he is or isn't better than in the current rotation, but I don't think that's necessarily the right question to ask for Cobb. I forgot to include this in my first post last night, but I've warmed to Cobb+ because I think Stearns sees value* there if his price is under 18-20m a year. Maybe it doesn't make the Cubs afraid of the Brewers like a Yu or Arrieta signing could, but it does make the Brewers better and their rotation depth better, which I think is Stearns primary interest. * to be clear, when I say value, I don't mean discount. I think Cobb is good and may possess a little more upside with this being Year 2 after TJ. With Yu or Arrieta, I get the sense that Stearns may not have wanted to concede everything they've asked for without some reward on the other end for him.

    Hey gang, this is my first ever post. Wanted to hop in and say that I'm okay with Cobb on the condition that they turn around and make a trade for another quality starter. I was hoping for Yu or Jake too, but the more I thought about it, the more comfortable I am with it. If you sign Cobb and get someone like Salazar/Odorizzi now, you kind of turn the rotation into a position of strength [in terms of depth]. If an opportunity to trade for Archer or Stroman comes before Opening Day or the deadline, you might be able to include a major league-ish ready arm in addition to whatever the other parts of the package are. Perhaps that's too dreamy, but if Boras is holding Arrieta to the point where Stearns & Co. can't consider signing him as valuable, I'm okay with this plan of action. What do you all think?
