  1. but how do you really feel?
  2. I absolutely agree that Hader should get a large return, but I caution against using the Chapman-Torres deal as framework without the context of "the team acquiring him had their best chance at winning the WS after going the previous 108 years without winning it." Not all deals have parallel circumstances.
  3. Just spitballing for the sake of different packages, but could you ask for Lamahieu, Severino/Paxton, and a prospect? I think I'm mostly trying to avoid and Andujar inclusion in this exercise, but how off is this?
  4. I feel as if Andujar is going to be tough to leave out of any deal. One question as we continue this exercise because I'm not too smart when it comes to baseball. How does Andujar being brutal in the field affect the team compared to Arcia being brutal at the plate? I know that's not who he'd be replacing. I guess my question is where do you think the Brewers see better value? Good/great defense and terrible offense or (potentially) good/great offense and poor defense? Are we mayyybe underrating Andujar's potential a bit because his concern is already throughout the team?
  5. I know several people would not like a trade with the Yankees to get done, but what would Stearns' asking price being met look like? Can we make any reasonable guesses? To be clear, I'm not asking for the most likely deal or one that fits holes only. Put on your David Stearns mask and tell me what you being blown away (and having your high asking price met) by the Yankees can look like.
  6. I apologize if this is stupid, but (assuming trade talks are legitimate, which is a big maybe, but...) what if whatever prospects Stearns would ask for is for another team and not a return for Hader? Is it out of the realm of possibility that he’d need a third team involved to create a good enough package for, say, Arenado? I don’t think Stearns can pull off much with the status of the farm in a straight up trade, so could he do something like deal Hader to the Yankees in exchange for the additional farm power to get a player of Arenado’s caliber?
  7. So why do we think the Yankees are the team popping up in the rumors/primarily Heyman tweets? I doubt that they're the only team talking with Stearns, and I really doubt Stearns leaks anything if talks are truly ongoing. So why do they appear the most with Hader? What's their angle in being in the news when they can sign Dellin or do anything else? Put another way, why do we think we've only heard from primarily the Yankees and maybe two other teams when Hader is clearly excellent and highly valuable?
  8. Do you think the Rockies will want more from the Brewers since they'll be switching to AmFam in 2021 and abandoning the Miller-Coors bond?
  9. I think if I had to pick my favorite outcome going forward it would be a Hader for Lux or Hader for Riley swap and then spend a chunk of whatever money you have left on Betances or Will Smith for the year. I do understand that the trades are unlikely until further notice, but I feel like this avenue would lead the highest combo of upside + sustainability, at least for me. I would like Donaldson if they pulled that off, but there is some risk there at the end of whatever deal they'd agree to. Seager would be fine-to-good but you'd be gambling on a couple of things as well. You'd be gambling on those prospects as well I guess, but...well...[points to first two sentences]
  10. Immediate disclaimer: I know the roster is not complete. There's no way this is their 40-man come opening day. However! Could someone smarter than me detail the lineup/depth chart as it currently stands and how much money is still available, just for the sake of having a visual only?
  11. IMO you trade Josh Hader for the best package possible - not the one that plugs the most holes. Yes, those agendas will likely cross over, but if you move on from Hader you do it for the best value in return. To me that means I’d prefer a Lux return over McNeil/Davis unless the Mets include valuable pitching to put that package as a whole over the top. Should the Dodgers include an arm of some kind, then I shift back.
  12. I assume this is insurance and seeing what happens at AAA, but part of me wonders if deals like this (specifically, one-year deal as opposed to a NRI) can also be favors to agents and agencies in exchange for fairness in negotiations upcoming or down the road on other players. I'm not talking about a discount in negotiations, to be clear. I just wonder if that's an avenue that gets explored.
  13. I agree, and I'd feel better about having payroll be the majority of capital used to bring in talent than prospects+ at the deadline.
  14. I like the move on its own, which I think is also the healthiest way to examine it in December. I think we as sports fans fall into compartmentalizing moves, as in "they need a, b, c, and d" or "we have this much payroll left and then we're tapped out." Those parameters do matter, but they both scenarios are still entirely fluid until they have to play the games that matter. I think it'll be more tough to acquire a Donaldson or Ryu/Keuchel, but it also doesn't eliminate them until those players have signed elsewhere. Who knows? A Hader/Cain trade could happen and now money is available again. In trying to think one move at a time with careful consideration of which context matters right now and what doesn't, I like the move!
  15. It seems as if a handful of deals have taken a few days to get officially announced, but I haven't seen one be in advanced talks without much news one way or the other before. Hopefully the ship has not...ahem...Avisailed.
  16. Again, he projects about as good offensively as Moose. Was he a bottom of the barrel player in your mind too? Projections projections projections! I think this is what irritates me so much about every cheap signing the Brewers make. People will say well he projects to be the same as so and so. Except to this point in their careers they haven't produced like player so and so has. Projections aren't worth the paper they are printed on. You know what matters?? PRODUCTION. Until you prove you are as good as so and so, projections mean crap. The irony, of course, is that calling a player you want a needle mover is, in itself, a projection. Is it not?
  17. A large percentage of that reply was in jest. Just trying add a little bit of levity to the proceedings as we wait for some news.
  18. I like Castellanos better, but the two of these guys are not that much different in the overall scheme. If Castellanos time with the Cubs is who he really is, then he's better. But Garcia is a good player.
  19. I'd be down for this move in it's own vacuum, which is to say I think Stearns sees some potential for some surplus value with his bat and capabilities in the outfield. I also think that when we try to think a few steps ahead (how will the outfield shape out? Who will move to 1B? Is that enough?), so many of these moves will end up not seeming worth it. There are only so many obvious moves you can make, and I think Stearns and Counsell have done a pretty good job so far of figuring out how to make things eventually work out.
  20. I'm not terribly enthused or bummed out by this move. Big names excite me for obvious reasons, I admit that. If these kind of signings leave more room in the budget for a medium-to-high level impact bat or two via FA or trade, I'll be really happy with the total puzzle.
  21. Well off Walker goes to the Yankees. I still have tons of faith in Stearns and Co., but I'm getting more and more surprised that they haven't made more moves considering how much the value has depressed on some of these guys. Still think a move or two is made before OD though.
  22. Wasn't Nightengale on MLB Network a little while ago speculating that they might take another run at him? I know that's not a report, but I don't think it's totally false either.
  23. Is this still an option if Cobb goes to Baltimore?
  24. Well I feel dumb. No matter how entertaining it was or how busy it kept us, it was still all lies. Dang, that stinks. Hope Cobb or Arrieta signs soon so I can move on from guessing. Bring on San Diego.
  25. I'm sure the Brewers will pull off a move or two at some point before opening day. I'm pretty confident, you could say. I'm super annoyed that I'm beginning to bite on less credible looking rumors (though I don't blame anyone for sharing in the thread). [deep breath] ...One of these days, we'll have something fun to talk about!
