  1. They tried “running that play” during the Reds or Mets series, didn’t they? I feel like that was definitely called by CC as a way to force some action.
  2. The way our offense has been scoring runs...we can’t be greedy on how we get them. The offense has been sucking, so let’s give up outs seems counterintuitive
  3. This pitcher sucks, giving up an out there on that play seems like a really dumb call for CC
  4. Why does Cain always look like he’s grimacing in pain after he slides or runs?
  5. The owners They could expand the playoffs by making the WC best of 3 or 5 and division series best of 7 to add games to help make up revenue for the league that’s shared.
  6. I saw it at a game I was at earlier this year, pretty sure it's either the new radar system they put in place last year or used for stat cast would be my guess.
  7. It appeared to be. I don’t like that Fox Sports took away the K-zone in the side screen for every pitch this year and only have it on replays.
  8. The Reds might not win more that 50 games. They are awful. Good to see us take care of business and win this series against a bad team.
  9. Yeah, I want to say he rated neutral or even slightly negative in CF last year
  10. We are not watching the same player apparently. Villar is the same player as of last season, minus the benching in September. I would like Sogard to play everyday until he proves that he can't. If we could give him half the rope Villar has for some reason gotten, I'd be thrilled. Sogard gets on base more, takes more pitches, makes better contact, walks more, plays better defense, and runs the bases better. Villar has a higher career BB% and OBP than Sogard. Villar has been worth as much WAR as Sogard in 1/4 of the career PAs. We have over 1,500 career PAs that tells us Sogard is not any good. On top of Villar still in prime years and Sogard out of them (not that he ever had any).
  11. I think at this point, the Marlins are pretty set on the shedding contracts unless somebody wants to take on Chen. Other than Stanton, I don't think they were ever really motivated to give guys away and to take cost/money as the only motivation in the trade. Their longterm outlook is pretty good now in terms of player contracts. Taking a few million bucks off their hand wouldn't be of zero value, but I don't think it's a motivation really as shady as they seem at this point. They do eventually want to win again in a few years. True, but I still think they are trying to put as much to bottom line as possible. Agreeing to take back one or even both the guys I mentioned maybe means you don't need to give up Burnes and could get away with using only Woodruff or even Suter (if they like him) as the main pitcher in a package. Something like Woodruff, Villar, one or two of Erceg, Lutz, Dubon, Ray, a lower level lotto ticket and like Broxton for some major league filler could conceivable do it with taking back salary. Throw in Bandy or something too if they want a catcher replacement.
  12. Don't know if we could afford it but taking back a contract could help diminish the assets needed to give up. Castro would be my number 1 target since he's pretty good and we have a need at 2B and he's only signed through next year, Tazawa has a $7 million contract this year then is a FA which you'd assume we could absorb and $7 million (a little less since it would be prorated) isn't nothing to the Marlins.
  13. "It's early" but as a team we have the 2nd lowest BB% rate in the league and top 10 highest K% in the league. That's not a recipe for success no matter how many HR's we hit.
  14. Tough to lose to a bad team but it's going to happen and happen again. Key is not to lose series against bad teams so hopefully we figure it out quick here on the home stand.
  15. My HS had summer baseball, I absolutely loved it and we were a small school (around 240 kids total) there's no way we could've had a baseball team if it was in spring with so many kids that also did track and golf, me and maybe 6 others were the only guys who did strictly baseball. With this news I know my school is going to have to combine with a few others in the area in order to keep a program and be able to do spring ball. Is what it is, especially with travel/legion ball but from just a strictly HS perspective starting in May and ending in late July would seem to be the ideal season. I can't say I pay much attention to HS baseball anymore but I'd have to imagine with how Spring is going most couldn't have played too many games at this point and have to be close to almost canceling seasons.
  16. Amazing what happens when an offense just puts the ball in play and doesn’t try to hit HRs every AB
  17. I'm guessing unless there's injuries they are pitching through (which I doubt since their velocity seems in line with career averages) I'm guessing all them will start pitching closer to career norms than what they've done their first 2-3 starts this year. I still expect Chatwood to be a really solid 5 since he's out of Coors, but you never know. They also have had some crazy extra rest and this early in the season maybe that's not a good thing for starters since their routines get screwed with. Either way I know this weather is way out of the norm but MLB should do a better job scheduling more games in domed cities/south/west stadiums until the last week of April or so. Also just make every new stadium require a dome/roof of some sort. Thank god we have a roof.
  18. Even by pre PED standards, these guys are not old baseball-wise and the older players aren't even being asked to play everyday, yet they still can't make it through 9 innings without backs tightening up or hamstrings getting sore or whatever. Not to mention the times pitchers have injured themselves hitting. These are athletes? I mean that’s kinda true. But Cain has been hurt for stretches nearly every year of his career except last year, Braun has had stretches of injures the last 3-4 years, Anderson has been hurt his whole career here and there, Yelich has had stretches earlier in his career (I believe), catchers are bound to get banged up so while unlucky it’s not unexpected with Pina and Vogt, I just think it’s mostly who these guys are more than anything.
  19. I’d guess more roster construction than anything they are or aren’t doing from a strength and conditioning perspective. I mean a lot of the guys that make up the roster have a history of injuries and missing time. Obviously some of it is fluky but some of it is just these guys being who they have been and aging.
  20. Any of those, probably depending on Braun/Yelich health may need to figure out a way to keep Phillips up. Could be Braun to 10 day and make room for one of the pitchers. If Phillips is sent down and Braun out but no going to the DL along with Pina banged up we'd be back to having a real short bench.
  21. Dodgers about to fall 6 games back in the division I know it’s early but I think they might be in real trouble. Of last years division winners I think the Nats and Cubs are going to be fine and still should be the favorites to win the East and Central but idk if I’d give the benefit of the doubt to the Dodgers right now, there’s some real concerns there.
  22. MLB umpires are unionized and basically untouchable for poor job performance, that's the sad thing. There is absolutely no accountability for bad umpires. CB Bucknor and Joe West are living proof of that. They get their little report card, probably trash it, and go out and do it again the next day. There's no fines, no suspensions, no discipline for umpires who suck at their job. Yeah it’s crazy. Just automate the zone already. You still need a himplate umpire to announce the ball/strike call, make safe/out calls at the plate and other things. It’s not like they are going to lose jobs.
  23. No. I'm worried long term. Without his velocity hard to see his continuing to be solid pitcher. Yeah long term it worries me but he’s been getting away with it tonight
  24. He’s pitching great so not overly worried, but has Anderson topped 92 tonight?
