  1. Could the crowd be any more dead? Man, I've seen more lively gatherings at County Stadium on a 40 degree night in early April. They're probably upset that neither Corky nor The Big DH are in the derby.
  2. Brian Kingman must be sweating now that Glendon is back. I think he's more worried about the Detroit triple threat. It'll be interesting to see just how ugly the Pirate unis will be tonight. The 70s should be forgotten when it comes to turn back the clock nights.
  3. Huntsville, Birmingham(White Sox) PPD HUNTSVILLE, Alabama (Ticker) -- The game between the Birmingham Barons and the Huntsville Stars has been postponeddue to rain. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader on July 31 beginning at 6:05 p.m. EDT.
  4. That hill and flagpole are so out of place in that horrible stadium. That train is a joke, the hill is a joke, the flagpole is a joke, and the Astros' unis are a joke. I just hate that place, it's just one big gimmick after another. I honestly like Pro Player Stadium more than this joke. I can live with the train, that doesn't affect the game, but the hill and the pole have got to go.

  6. I would think that since you put the DH into a fielding spot, even if it is pitcher, that you would lose the DH. And in that case, Estrella would bat in Brooks' spot in the order. Oh, and it feels real nice to be on the good side of a 9-1 ballgame. Lets keep this up.
  7. Whatever it is, it still isn't real grass. I think NexTurf is a little longer and not as rough as normal turf. There are quite a few makers of more realistic turf. You see it a lot nowadays in College football. I believe Wisconsin is getting one of the new types of turf installed at Camp Randall.
  8. I just realized this today but this is the first of only three series that the Brewers play on turf this year. The others are @ Montreal - Aug 1-3 and @ Philly - Aug 12-14.
  9. That was nice! What a great game to see in person. Sheets was unreal, Sexson's play at first was one of the greatest defensive plays of the year(even if it was luck), and shutting up those Twins fans was great. I think the crowd was about 65/35 in favor of the Brewers. That was not the best home game of the year, that award has to go to Eddie Perez's walkoff vs the Reds. But this win was special because the Brewers were so close with a couple of nice drives by Helms and Ginter, but came out on top in the end. A good game all around; nice to see the Brewers win.
  10. Beloit robbed of win? A play at the plate...Jeff Eure coming around....slides....catcher catches ball standing up...swings arm around.....Misses....Eure called out... Horrible call. Bad calls all around as Blazin Chris will attest too. Are the same two umpires used for the entire series? I was at the Thursday game and there were a slew of horrible calls. Fair balls called foul, a large baserunner called out for having the ball hit him when the ball wasn't anywhere near, and many balls, not even close to the zone, called strikes for both teams.
  11. 14,000 plus in Indianapolis for todays game? It was Coop bobblehead day in Indy.
  12. I was lucky enough to attend the Beloit game tonight. Jeff Housman, while not overpowering, was very consistant and made the pitches that he had to make. He was at about 89-91 mph most of the night. A couple of interesting defensive plays for the Snappers. Callix Crabbe's error was a tough one. It was a high chopper to the right of the pitchers mound and he had to come in hard and never got a hold of the ball. I doubt he would've thrown the guy out but they gave him the E. Callix had a very nice game at the plate with a couple RBI on a couple hits. Then in the 8th, Ryan Trytten loaded the bases with one out. He got the next guy to hit a short fly ball to center, the man on third tagged up but Kennard Bibbs had to let it drop in. Bibbs threw a lazer to the plate to get the force out. Trytten got the next guy out to preserve the shutout. All in all, a very good all around game for the Snappers.
  13. High Desert 4, Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) 3 Looks like a good night for the farm; the Link Report saves the day, again. Mike, this is the first night this season, I believe, where the farm clubs all played and won -- too bad the parent club is incapable of cooperating as well...MassBrew High Desert Site Game Summary: An electric night in the desert as well! Easily the best night the kids on all the farm teams have had this season both in terms of wins and excitement! At least Jim Powell will have an exciting "Down on the Farm" report tonight... ADELANTO, CA ? For just the second time this season, the High Desert Mavericks put together back-to-back wins, knocking off the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes on Friday night by a final of 4-3 at Mavericks Stadium. Dan Hall (4-1) picked up his league-leading fourth win of the year, coming within one strike of a complete game victory. Hall turned in the best performance by a Maverick starter this season, going 8.2 innings, allowing three runs on just four hits, while striking out eight. The right-hander had a chance to throw the first complete game by a Maverick since Matt Parker did it to the Quakes in Rancho, on August 8th, 2001. After getting the first two outs of the ninth inning easily, Hall allowed Derek Mann to reach on a high chopper that was just over the glove of Hall and into center field. He would then walk his only man of the night, as Jason Aspito walked on a 3-2 pitch. Bobby Bystrowski would come on to face Dallas McPherson, who represented the tying run at the plate. McPherson drove one off the wall in center field which pulled the Quakes to within one at 4-3. But Bystrowski would nail down his second save in as many nights, getting Michael Napoli to ground out to Todd West to end the game, giving Bystrowski a team-best sixth save. The Mavs took a 1-0 lead in the first, as Daryl Clark knocked in Johnny Raburn, who opened the inning with a single and a stolen base. After Tommy Murphy?s second homer of the year tied it at 1-1, Dan Boyd drove in the go-ahead run, with a double off the wall, off of Quakes starter Steven Shell (2-2). The Mavs added a third run on possibly the most exciting play of the year. Ralph Santana tripled to lead off the fifth inning, and was still on third after two ground ball outs. On a 2-2 pitch to Clark, Santana broke for home as right-hander Scott Schneider worked from the wind-up. Santana slid in safely, beating a high fastball for a straight steal of home plate. The Mavs would add a run in the seventh, as Santana knocked in Chris Morris, who was hit by a pitch to open the inning. The Mavs are home again on Saturday night to battle the Quakes. Brian Mazone (0-2) goes for the Mavs, while Jake Woods (1-2) throws for Rancho Cucamonga. High Desert Box Score: OF Chris Morris on pace for an 85-steal season in 110 attempts (77%)...
