  1. Spot on, including the part about my delivery issue. I'm working on it.
  2. Of course the scouting world is going to have a better read on talent than Joe Fan. But why not try and learn the things scouts look at when trying to put together a prospect ranking. If people don't want to put in the effort to do more than gloss over statistics, that's fine. But what's the harm in raising some of the things most people don't think to look at, that the professionals do? Me doing that is contrarian? What board will we have here if that's frowned upon?
  3. Not being contrarian, being realistic. Interesting that anyone who doesn't agree with you is "contrarian". The things I'm bringing up are things the scouting community pays close attention to. Thousands of prospects have put up eye opening numbers and not soared up scouting rankings in the same manner that fans have elevated them. There's a reason for this. And more often than not it's the scouting world that is the side more grounded in reality.
  4. They're created a bigger budget for themselves on the business side via broadcasting deals and development around their stadium.
  5. The value will only be fine if the prospects (at least one of Ruiz or Gasser) pan out. Because one of the major leaguers has already been released and the other is controlled for a full year less than Hader. And when the trade is reduced down to hinging on the 2 prospects as opposed to keeping Hader and not having Rogers, it's hard to say this is the quality of prospects anyone was expecting when the Hader card was cashed. At this point we can only hope that the front office is very sold on Ruiz and Gasser and quite confident one or both will be major league contributors for years to come. Let's hope they're right because at year's end, they're likely all that will be left to show for Hader.
  6. Oh boy. Have you considered that GMs, scouts, and ranking services sometimes go deeper than one half season's stats. There's a discussion going on about this exact thing in the minor league forum in the August Prospect List Update.
  7. Well apparently people can rip clancy's list at will but when they compile their lists in the exact same fashion, relying heavily on stats that can be Googled in 30 seconds, it's off limits for anyone to offer a differing perspective.
  8. Always shooting down discussion because it doesn't go along with your beliefs. Good debate never gets off the ground here. Everyone just posting their lists with zero discussion is real deep stuff.
  9. Funny you would mention...
  10. I'm not even saying Ruiz isn't a legit prospect. But let's see how he stacks up in the same environment as prospects with a much stronger pedigree and track record before we assume he's surpassed than some of the better prospects we already had. If he maintains these numbers in Nashville it will be very exciting yes, but I don't think everyone understands how much of a feat that would be to maintain those El Paso numbers in Nashville. If too many start going only as deep as some gaudy, out of context stats, then we've got a multitude doing the same thing clancy is mocked for.
  11. You of all people should know how where a minor leaguer plays their games can inflate a prospect's stats and lead to unrealistic expectations and overrating. <cough> Joey Meyer </cough>
  12. Did you weigh what the OPS of Mitchell, Turang, Weimer might look like if they were playing in Texas League or Pacific Coast League instead of the Southern League or International League? Because it matters...a lot.
  13. There are 2 giant red flags that should give people pause but clearly isn't. El Paso/San Antonio and small sample. Is a single person generating their ranking looking at Ruiz's previous seasons? Your not accounting for the whole sum of data on all of these guys. Your basing everything on some wild, environment inflated, recent stats and ignoring everything else.
  14. My contribution is to encourage people to take a second look if they're ranking Estuary Ruiz ahead of the likes of Garrett Mitchell, Bruce Turang, Joey Wiemer, and Jackson Chourio, as multiple people have on one if not all of these guys. I get that he's the shiny new toy but do your homework. C'mon guys, as fans and close followers of this team, we should be able to crank out a pretty good prospect list and this one is already on it's way to being a mess and clancy hasn't even posted his list yet. I'd really like to say something stronger about any list that doesn't have Jackson Chourio #1, but I'll show some restraint.
  15. The fact were now counting on prospects that just arrived in AAA to spark this offense into and through the playoffs is somewhat eye opening and even more concerning
  16. Stearns pulling a Costanza in an attempt to free himself up to join the Mets
  17. Yeah they have to continue to TRY and match the best organization in the sport at churning out cheap, controllable pitching talent. A team that has 4 pitchers in it current top 10 prospects list, including it's top prospect who is the #31 prospect on MLB's list and #36 on Keith Law's just updated top 60. So simple. Just keep matching what the Rays are doing. Except take a look at the Brewers current pipeline.
  18. No doubt that's the direction they'll have to go. They have to target pitching and the ones they get back will have to pan out.
  19. Just saw this in a reply to the news of this release from Robert Murray. I laughed...
  20. Who has high expectations of the Brewers slugging out 3 solo HRs versus the Dodgers, Padres, Mets, and Braves pitching staffs in October? This is not a lineup that can be expected to do much when you face playoff teams' top 3 starters and best bullpen arms. Tim, you're right. It is an unaccepted outcome to not add at least one bat when this franchise possesses the kind of pitching it is near impossible for a small market to assemble for a sustained period of time. And it only took a few hours for the glaring deadline mistake to bear out when a 3rd catcher was batting with 2 outs and the bases loaded, in a game the team was down 2 runs. Unacceptable.
  21. You can look no further than the Brewers current top 10 prospects. It's not exactly littered with the next wave of arms anyone is projecting to replace the Brewers current top arms. The next wave is full of position players and hitting prospects. A lot is going to break right for the Brewers to sustain their current level of pitching. So much had to break right to get where they are now.
  22. WHAT? So you think it's possible to ever rise up to what teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, Padres, etc can assemble when those teams can buy the best on the market? What the Brewers have right now is absolutely on par with the best one can ever expect them to assemble. The only way for the Brewers is developing them in your system and acquiring via trade before they break out. Developing Burnes, Woodruff, Williams, Ashby and trading for Hader, Peralta, and Lauer is no easy to match order. So many things had to break right to get to this point. Avoiding injuries, improving spin rate, honing control, developing new pitches that work, and quite simply having all those pieces converge at the same time is an endeavor with really long odds. Injuries alone can derail the best laid plans. The Brewers have no room for error and can't simply BUY another 1, 2, or even 3 starter whenever things go wrong. There is something very rare and special for the small market BREWERS when they're able to have a sustained run of years with pitching like this.
  23. Just feels like we'll look back at this era with this pitching and all lament someday about how much of a missed opportunity it was.
  24. Can't believe I'm typing this because I've always been an optimist and typically see the logic in what Stearns is doing but I gotta grade this deadline as a D. No baseball talent evaluator in their right mind would say this lineup has a snowball's chance of scoring enough runs to go deep in the playoffs. Could it happen? Sure, but you can't analytically place high odds on it. It's such a missed opportunity in the history of the organization not to be bold when they have this kind of pitching talent. They're on the side of the equation you want to be when it comes to a wealth of one and a dearth of the other when weighing a teams pitching vs hitting. It's much easier in terms of cost of prospect capital to add impactful hitting than it is for a team with offensive firepower to go out and accumulate high end pitching when it's lacking. It's in fact one of the rare times in Brewers history that the preponderance of talent was on the pitching side. And despite that present state, one in which they could go out and upgrade the easier side to do so, they indeed did nothing on that side. Stunning really. When you factor in 3 years running of playoff appearances totaling 1 win and 6 losses while averaging 1.57 runs per game, I don't see how you roll with a lineup full of holes and expect anything to be different than the previous 3 cracks at it. Meanwhile they're one year closer to saying goodbye to Burnes and Woodruff after trading away Hader.
  25. I think the most patient and optimistic among us were fine with the way the team approached the offseason and building the 2022 roster when others weren't because we all figured they'd see the arms they're blessed with in this small window and they'd supplement the offense by the deadline at the latest. I'm stunned that August 2 has come and gone and they didn't add a single MLB bat. I'm a Stearns guy and pleased with Mark A. as an owner but I can't figure out what they're thinking here.
