  1. For the week, Nashville (5-1), Biloxi (4-2) and Wisconsin (5-0) were each victorious in their series, while Carolina fell 4 games to 2. Transactions: RHP Joel Kuhnel’s contract selected by MLB Brewers from AAA Nashville Of course, Sunday also saw the first two rounds of the 2024 MLB Draft take place, with the Brewers selecting three high schoolers (one outfielder, two pitchers) and one college bat (first baseman). BrewerFanatic will have plenty of information for you to digest on these players, as well as those who are selected in rounds 3-10 (Monday) and 11-20 (Tuesday). Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 3, Iowa 2 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Hicklen Launches 19th Homer, Sounds Head Into All-Star Break with Victory DH/OF Brewer Hicklen (1-for-3, HR, 2 RBIs, SB, 2 runs) once again led the offense, depositing a 2-run homer over the left field wall for a 2-1 lead in the 1st inning, then helping manufacture a vital insurance run in the 7th inning. Starting RHP Garrett Stallings was effective over 5 1/3 innings, navigating around 2 doubles, 3 singles and 3 walks with 4 Ks, with RHP Janson Junk (2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 BB, 1 K) helping strand a baserunner in the 6th inning. The Miller-Capra middle infield combination was terrific in turning 4 double plays. Things got extremely tricky in the 8th inning, with RHP Harold Chirino walking the first two batters he faced to load the bases with one out before inducing a Miller-Capra-Black GIDP. That was so fun that the Sounds decided to pull off a similar feat in the top of the 9th inning, with RHP James Meeker (1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 0 Ks, Save) relieving Chirino with 2-on, nobody out, inducing a run-scoring ground out and the game-ending Miller-Capra-Black GIDP. Sounds’ Extras: As the team only garnered 3 hits and left 1 on base, it’s no surprise that only offensive player to reach base twice (left fielder Isaac Collins: single, walk). Right fielder Joey Wiemer was ejected for arguing a checked swing call after he grounded out to end the 6th inning, going 1-for-3 in the game by legging out an infield grounder. Two of his at-bats had exit velocities just over 93mph. Next week’s outlook: Nashville has a 10-hour drive east to face Orioles’ affiliate Norfolk for three games starting on Friday. Or will they fly? Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Biloxi 7, Chattanooga 5 Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Seven Unanswered Runs Lead Way to Comeback Win in Series Finale for Shuckers Despite starting RHP Bradley Blalock no-hitting the Lookouts for 4 innings, Biloxi found itself down 4-0 by the 7th inning, with a win probability of only 3.9%. Center fielder Dylan O’Rae (0-for-0, 5 walks, 3 SBs, 2 runs) started the rally by drawing his 4th walk of the game with one out in the top of the 7th inning. DH/OF Carlos D. Rodriguez reached base 4 times (2 singles, 2 walks, SB), singling and scoring on a bloop double by right fielder Connor Scott in that 7th inning, then notching a 2-run single in the top of the 8th inning to give the Shuckers their first lead at 6-4. Shuckers’ Extras: Along with Blalock’s solid work (4 IP, 1 R, 2 H, 3 BB, 5 Ks) and the terrific late rally, RHP Bo Bowman needs to get a lot of credit for entering with 2-on, nobody out in the 5th inning and stranding both baserunners for Blalock, including fielding and throwing out the lead runner at 3rd base on a sacrifice bunt attempt. RHP Craig Yoho (1 2/3 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 3 H, 1 BB, 1 HBP, 3 Ks) got the Win in relief, but he’s be grateful to RHP Justin Yeager (1 1/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 2 Ks) for stranding 2 baserunners in the 8th inning before grabbing his 9th Save with a 3-up, 3-down 9th inning. 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. also reached base 4 times (2 singles, 2 walks, RBI), singling in an insurance run. Next week’s outlook: Biloxi hosts Rays’ affiliate Montgomery for three games, commencing on Friday. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 5, West Michigan 3 Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, game details: Rattlers Top Whitecaps to Win Sixth Straight Catch video highlights of Wisconsin’s victory which clinched a sweep for the week: And we also have the 22-minute Mehring/Lobner post-game podcast, featuring comments from Devin Williams and Manager Victor Estevez. This game actually picked up from the start of the 2nd inning tied 0-0 after a rain delay on Saturday, with 4,980 fans treated to mostly solid performances up-and-down the lineup. I’m sure the Timber Rattlers 4-run 5th inning put Williams at ease before his 14-pitch rehab inning (3 batters = 3 strikeouts). Each of center fielder Luis Lara, SS Eduardo Garcia and left fielder Felix Valerio had two hits in the game and contributed key hits in that fifth inning. Will Garcia and/or the mustachioed Valerio be seeing action back in AA ball soon? While Williams looked supremely confident on the mound, you could also see RHP Alexander Cornielle happily toying with opposing hitters: 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks, Win. The 22-year old with a 2.78 season ERA has played at this High-A level for nearly 2 years and must be itching for the move to AA. From the video highlights, you can see that this was actually a game of inches, with Lara making the awesome catch to end the top of the 7th inning still leading 5-3, then 3B Luke Adams winning a sprint to tag 3rd base to end the game with the bases loaded. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: Per the podcast, Wisconsin is now 26 games over .500 on the season, the first time they’ve achieved this feat since 2001. Again from the podcast: “Hopefully I’ll be back in a few weeks”, said Devin Williams, along with “I’m already pitching without pain.” 25-year old C Ramon Rodriguez had the pleasure of catching Williams, Cornielle and five other Wisconsin pitchers on Saturday and Sunday, while also reaching base 4 times: 2 singles, walk, HBP. Next week’s outlook: Wisconsin will take the 4-hour drive southwest to Twins’ affiliate Cedar Rapids for three games from Friday. Final: Carolina 7, Fredericksburg 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Mudcats Swept In Doubleheader After dropping 4 straight games and being shut out in 3 of them, Carolina may have felt some of the pressure come off of them when a Fredericksburg first inning error scored 2 runs instead of stranding the baserunners. Each of center fielder Yophery Rodriguez and right fielder Luis Castillo reached base 3 times (2 hits, 1 walk). Castillo doubled twice and led off Carolina’s 4-run fourth inning with a walk, before Rodriguez notched a 2-run, 2-out single to push the lead to 4-1. On the mound, Manager Nick Stanley was able to use nine pitchers, with starting RHP Josh Timmerman covering 2 frames (32 pitches) in his second game back since a month-long injury. No other Mudcat pitcher faced more than 5 batters or covered more than an inning. Mudcats’ Extras: RHP Jeferson Figueroa (2.67 season ERA) did make things interesting for the 3,003 road crowd, walking two batters to bring the potential game-tying run to the plate before ending the game with a strikeout and groundout. The game log noted injury delays in the 5th and 6th innings, so we’ll have to be watchful on the status of RHPs Harrison Durow and Jeison Pena. C David Garcia also reached base 3 times (2 walks, 1 single), while 3B Miguel Briceno collected 2 singles and left fielder Yhoswar Garcia stole 2 bases (that’s 43 SBs on the season for Yhoswar). Next week’s outlook: Carolina will host Guardians’ affiliate Lynchburg for a 3-game series starting Friday. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Monday, only our two Dominican Summer League squads will be in action from 10:00am CST, while the Milwaukee Brewers are also on their All-Star break. From Tuesday-Thursday, only the Rookie League clubs are playing (DSL Brewers-1, DSL Brewers-2, ACL Brewers). 2. Low-A Carolina seeks a win to salvage a 2-4 series at Fredericksburg. RHP Josh Timmerman makes his 2nd appearance (1st start) since a month-long injury:
  3. AA Biloxi gets a second chance to close out a series win (4-2) at Chattanooga:
  4. AAA Nashville aims to close out a 5-1 home series win over Iowa:
  5. High-A Wisconsin leads their home series against West Michigan 4-0 and continues yesterday’s rain delayed game scoreless from the 2nd inning:
  6. Looks like our Mudcats need a break as badly as the Brewers. The Sounds should have gotten a win (had 2-on, nobody out in 6th and 9th but didn’t score), though still lead the series 4-1. Wiemer and Miller both reached base 3 times. Really encouraging last 2 outings by Bjorn Johnson in Arizona.
  7. I’m assuming we’ve the correct lineup card for Game 2 of Carolina’s doubleheader, with RHP Bishop Letson on the mound. C Satchell Norman and LF Luis Castillo enter for D. Garcia and Diaz. The Mudcats trail the series in Fredericksburg 3-1.
  8. It’s tougher sledding now without Tayden Hall, Juan Baez, Kay-Lan Nicasia, Yorman Galindez. And now Pratt at the Futures Game. They need Di Turi, Guilarte and Castillo to step up.
  9. 20-year old RHP Yujanyer Herrera is on a solid 6-game run (2.35 ERA with 29 Ks in 30,2 IP) for High-A Wisconsin, who’s aiming for a 5-0 home series lead over West Michigan and welcomes RHP Devin Williams for rehab relief work.
  10. AAA Nashville is up 4-0 in their home series against the woeful Cubs and have RHP Taylor Clarke (5.30 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 7.6 K/9 in 35.2 IP) on the mound tonight. DH/OF Brewer Hicklen has a 15-game on-base streak.
  11. It’s 22-year old RHP Logan Henderson’s (1.75 ERA with 34 Ks in 25.2 IP) turn to dominate (and clinch a series win) for AA Biloxi at Chattanooga. LF Adam Hall’s hitting streak is up to 11 games.
  12. RHP Bishop Letson (correction: Josh Knoth) gets the start for Low-A Carolina in the first game of today’s doubleheader at Fredericksburg, with Carolina hoping to reverse their Thursday twinbill defeat.
  13. Dude's always been a beast: https://www.chicagotribune.com/2016/01/07/hinsdale-boy-wins-third-national-nfl-punt-pass-kick-competition/
  14. I definitely like this version of Will Rudy. Keep it up!!
  15. The High-A Timber Rattlers can also clinch a home series win over West Michigan tonight. 23-year old RHP Will Rudy (5.37 ERA) has been trending better of late (3.63 ERA with 21 Ks in last 22.1 IP). Wisconsin has 5 of the top 16 basestealers in the 12-team Midwest League.
  16. The Sounds can clinch a series win over the miserable Cubs tonight, though it would help if 22-year old RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez could get back to his pre-MLB debut form as he’s conceded 10 runs in 9 innings since his return to AAA. Uber-versatile Tyler Black starts in center field. 2B Owen Miller is 7-for-10 with 4 RBIs this week.
  17. The AA Shuckers are aiming for a 3-1 series lead at Chattanooga and are in the excellent hands of 22-year old RHP Jacob Misiorowski (2.21 ERA with 28 Ks over last 20.1 IP). 3B Brock Wilken has an .871 OPS over his last 140 PAs.
  18. The Low-A Mudcats are down 2-1 in their series at Fredericksburg and now turn to 18-year old RHP Josh Knoth (3.69 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 in 53.2 IP) to turn the tide. DH/C Blayberg Diaz sees his first game action in 10 days and SS Cooper Pratt is away at the MLB Futures Game (tomorrow).
  19. - RHP Sam Gardner of AA Biloxi sent on rehab assignment to ACL Brewers
  20. Wes Clarke and Brock Wilken provided fireworks for Nashville and Biloxi, though Biloxi fell in extras. Matt Wood collected the game-winning hit for Wisconsin, while Carolina was shut out over 14 innings. Transactions: INF Joey Ortiz sent on rehab assignment to High-A Wisconsin Game Action: Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Nashville 10, Iowa 4 Box Score and Game Log Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Nashville Offense Explodes Again in Victory Over Iowa After a 16-minute rain delay to start the contest, the first hit of the game didn’t come until one out in the bottom of the 3rd inning (a double from center fielder Chris Roller) and it was all Sounds from there. DH Wes Clarke (3-for-4, HR, double, 3 RBIs led the way, delivering a 2-run double for a 3-0 advantage in that same 3rd inning, a solo homer to push the lead to 6-1 in the 5th inning and singling to start the 7th inning when the game had tightened to 6-3. 2B Patrick Dorrian (3-for-5, double, 2 RBIs) came through with a 2-run single in that frame to essentially put the game away at 8-3. Starting RHP Chad Patrick only allowed five baserunners over six solid innings to collect his 8th Win of 2024, although that included a solo homer and a 2-run shot: 6 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 5 Ks. His season ERA remains beautiful at 2.92 in 86 1/3 IP, especially considering the International League’s average ERA is 4.93. Where’s Tyler Black? A day after playing center field, Black manned third base, fielding only one ball (cleanly) on the night. At the plate, Black went 1-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Sounds’ Extras: After going unclaimed on waivers, 1B Owen Miller appears determined to show 30 Major League clubs what they’re missing: 3-for-5 with an RBI in this game, after going 4-for-5 yesterday. Every Nashville starting position player reached base via walk or hit, with Roller going 2-for-5. Only left fielder Joey Wiemer and C Brian Navarreto had a “0” in the hit column, but neither struck out. RHP Mitch White threw 51 pitches in 3 innings of long relief, striking out 6 of 12 batters to earn a Save. Friday’s outlook: 22-year old RHP Carlos F. Rodriguez faces off against old friend LHP Thomas Pannone, with Nashville up 3-0 in the series and seeking a clinching win. Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Chattanooga 5, Biloxi 4 (in 10 innings) Box Score and Game Log Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Wilken's Two-Home Run Night Spoiled by Lookouts in Extra-Innings Loss for Shuckers The Shuckers looked like the better team against struggling Chattanooga, but went 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position while the Lookouts scored 5 runs despite only going 0-for-1 with RISP. 3B Brock Wilken’s (2-for-5) solo homers gave Biloxi a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning, then tied the affair at 4-4 in the 5th inning after starting RHP Shane Smith (6 IP, 4 R, 6 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks) uncharacteristically conceded a run-scoring triple and 2-run homer. Neither team could muster any offense from the 5th through the 8th innings, before the C Nick Kahle, left fielder Adam Hall (2-for-4; 10-game hitting streak) and right fielder Lamar Sparks (2-for-3, walk, SB) each singled to load the bases with nobody out in the top of the 9th inning. However, Biloxi failed to cash in, going pop out, strike out, ground out. Shuckers’ Extras: Smith and RHPs Bo Bowman (2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks) and Craig Yoho (1 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 0 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks) limited Chattanooga to 3 baserunners (2 singles, 1 walk) over the final 5 2/3 innings of scheduled play, with Bowman erasing one of the baserunners via pick off. 1B Ernesto Martinez Jr. went 0-for-5, but it was great to see him back in the lineup two days after exiting Tuesday’s game following a hit-by-pitch. Friday’s outlook: RHP Jacob Misiorowski looks to continue his 5-game hot streak (2.21 ERA with 28 Ks in 20 1/3 IP), as Biloxi aims for a 3-1 series lead. Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes Final: Wisconsin 3, West Michigan 2 (in 10 innings) Box Score and Game Log Via the Timber Rattlers’ website, game details: Wood Walks Off Whitecaps for Wisconsin With Wisconsin playing at home, we’re blessed with a bevy of video highlights from the T-Rats’ media team: And we also have the 26-minute Mehring/Lobner post-game podcast with more nuggets, featuring rehabbing Joey Ortiz, Manager Victor Estevez and game-winning hero Matt Wood. There’s a LOT of content in the video and two links I’ve shared, so there’s no need saying much more. Enjoy it! 3,230 fans were in attendance (as mentioned in the video) for 3B Joey Ortiz’s first rehab appearance. Ortiz played 7 innings, garnering a fly out, ground out and walk, while fielding three balls at his position. Starting RHP KC Hunt was dominant once again, striking out 9 over 6 innings: 6 IP, 1 R, 3 H, 2 BB, 9 Ks. SS Jadher Areinamo (2-for-3, 2 walks, RBI) came into the game leading the Midwest League in hits, then reached base 4 times in this game to continue his torrid pace. C Matt Wood also collected 2 hits, including the game-winner which you’ve read about and watched. Timber Rattlers’ Extras: I didn’t know that RHP Chase Costello (2 IP, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 WPs, 2 Ks) has a wipe-out change up and a 96mph fastball. Watch the video! LHP Mark Manfredi looked solid in the new relief experiment, allowing only a walk over the 7th and 8th innings: 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks. Until extra innings, clutch hits were hard to come by, with Wisconsin stranding 11 baserunners and West Michigan going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Friday’s outlook: RHP Will Rudy is on a decent 4-game run (3.63 ERA over 22 1/3 IP) and he gets a chance lead the Timber Rattlers to a series-clinching victory. Game One Final: Fredericksburg 1, Carolina 0 (in 7 innings as scheduled) Box Score and Game Log Game Two Final: Fredericksburg 2, Carolina 0 (in 7 innings as scheduled) Box Score and Game Log Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Mudcats Swept In Doubleheader Despite being outhit 5-to-4 and 6-to-4 in the two contests, Carolina will rightfully feel they let these games slip away, having gone 0-for-15 with runners in scoring position on the evening. Per the discussion in our daily minor league forum, poor baserunning was the name of the game in the opener, failing to head home from 3rd base on a grounder to the right side in the 4th inning, then making two questionable decisions leading to outs in the 4th and 5th frames, then ending the game with a caught stealing. Starting 18-year old RHP Enniel Cortez deserved better than to take the Loss: 5 IP, 1 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 7 Ks, with forum watcher @wiguy94 saying he was generally throwing about 92mph. Left fielder Yhoswar Garcia went 2-for-3 to attempt to lead the offense, but was caught stealing and thrown out going for an extra base. The Nationals were the better team in the second game, but both teams struggled in clutch situations, going a combined 1-for-17 with RISP. RHP Daniel Corniel bounced back from two difficult starts, but still faced quite a bit of traffic and took the Loss: 5 IP, 2 R, 5 H, 4 BB, 4 Ks. Filippo Di Turi manned shortstop as Cooper Pratt rested for a game, with Di Turi going 2-for-3. Mudcats’ Extras: Center fielder Yophery Rodriguez had a productive day at the plate, reaching base in 4-of-6 plate appearances: 1 double, 3 walks. C Satchell Norman went 1-for-2 with a walk and a double in the second game. RHPs Jeferson Figueroa (Game 1) and Dikember Sanchez (Game 2) each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to give their offense a chance. Friday’s outlook: RHP Josh Knoth gets the start, with the Mudcats needing a win to even the series 2-2. Final: ACL Brewers 10, ACL White Sox 5 (in 7 innings as scheduled) Box Score and Game Log It was Comeback City for the ACL Crew, who trailed 5-1 entering the 5th inning before grabbing 3 runs in each of the 5th, 6th and 7th frames. 1B Johan Barrios (3-for-3, walk) got the rally started with a 1-out double in the top of the 5th inning, although the team was helped out by an HBP and two errors. With right-handed reliever Jesus Broca shutting things down (3 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks), the offense continued its work with C Eric Martinez doubling, Barrios adding a single and right fielder Angel Pereira clearing the bases with a 3-run triple for a 7-5 advantage. Starting youngster RHP Melvin Hernandez had worked around traffic for two innings before conceding a 4-run third inning: 4 IP, 5 R, 9 H, 0 BB, 1 HBP, 5 Ks. Final: DSL Brewers Uno 3, DSL Red Sox Blue 1 (in 5 innings) Box Score and Game Log Weather limited game action to just five frames, but that didn’t stop 2B Luis Pena from racking up the stats: 2-for-2, double, walk, RBI, 3 SBs. Pena’s season OPS is now 1.160, but that trails SS Jesus Made, who put in a 1-for-2 day with a walk. 2B Juan Ortuno added a 1-for-1 afternoon with a double, walk and RBI. On the mound, the team went through 4 pitchers in the 5 innings, with RHP Wande Torres getting the start (1 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 Ks), two-way player (LHP) Idalberto Santiesteban stranding a baserunner for him, then RHP Carlos Carra navigating around 4 hits and a walk over 1 1/3 IP and RHP Luis Guevara calming the waters: 1 2/3 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks. Final: DSL Rojos 5, DSL Brewers Dos 4 (in 6 1/3 innings) Box Score and Game Log This was likely a bitter loss to swallow, stranding 8 baserunners vs. Zero for the Rojos, then having the weather call the game while batting in the bottom of the final inning. Center fielder Jose Anderson led off the bottom of the 1st inning with his DSL-leading 7th homer of the year. SS Jorge Quintana and left fielder Pedro Tovar each went 2-for-4, with Tovar notching a double. 1B Frederi Montero also had a decent day, going 1-for-3 with a double, walk and RBI. Unfortunately, the team was unable to cash in on a 2-on, nobody out opportunity in the 5th inning, which was their last solid chance. January 2024 signee 17-year old RHP Dalvin Bodre started and made his organizational debut: 1 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 0 Ks. Welcome to the fold, Dalvin! RHP Argenis Aparicio handled the innings-eater role: 4 IP, 3 R (2 ER), 3 H, 1 BB, 2 WP, 2 Ks and RHP Wandy Cabrera was effective in relief: 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks. We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. Seven minor league games are due up on Friday, along with the Milwaukee Brewers hosting the Washington Nationals. 22. 23-year old RHP KC Hunt looks to repeat the domination of his last start (5.1 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 10 Ks), with High-A Wisconsin aiming to take a 3-0 home series lead over West Michigan. Major Leaguer 3B Joey Ortiz makes his first rehab start. SS Jadher Areinamo leads the Midwest League in hits (93) and doubles (23), and is 3rd in RBIs (52).
  23. Carolina plays a doubleheader at Fredericksburg today, with 18-year old RHP Enniel Cortez making his 4th start at this level (3.27 ERA in Low-A, but 4.84 on the season) in the opening game. Veteran C David Garcia leads the club with a .401 OBP, while Blayberg Diaz hasn’t played in 9 days.
  24. That Mudcat offense will be ridiculously young in 2025 and it'll be wonderful
